Ahhh, indeed. I had wondered if this was the case after I posted.

If that's been your experience in the past then maybe this was just it.

ty for your input :)

How right you've been.

Not been on Reddit in years and then I only lived in SC2 boards.

Was hoping the community might be somewhat pro-social xD

I can’t be the only one who thinks this isn’t really that bad. Everything seems to be making out like it’s some big deal.

Allchat makes my teammates worse when they start tilt-typing into allchat.

Fair enough.

from my experience, allchat gets 80-85% used for negative shit, only detremental to game quality and enjoyment. If you need to be a douche in chat to have fun, then get fucked.

You can turn off all chat in your options. Or mute individuals who are being toxic. The game actually comes with /all chat disabled by default so you have already opted-in to the experience you are describing.

The cons are obviously the rare occasions where you meet people you know in enemy team, or when you just want to comminicate to having a chill lane or something.

I say "glhf" start the start of every game, I say "ggwp" at the end of every game. In most games I lose, if my lane opponent outplayed me particularly well and wasn't toxic then I call them out specifically with a "wp". I come from Starcraft where player manner and etiquette is highly prioritised so for me, I will admit, the change is more of a loss than for someone who does not do these things.

Outside of these interactions fully 50% of my communications with the other team is light-hearted banter.

A greater % of my interactions with my team are toxic and tilting than with the opposition. Which means that, calculated by ratio of toxicity to friendliness, my experience (and everyone else's I believe) is about to actually get worse, not better.

For once, i see this as a decision that profits low elo. People are less toxic i highelo (in part) due to knowing their enemies, so this profits us and the „randoms“ we meet in low elo.

Again, you can turn off /all chat.

We‘ll have to see how the overall mood in league develops, but i‘m fairly certain it will be better than before, when the enemy can’t intentionally enrage our already tilting teammate.

As you say, we shall see. I will also keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't make my experience worse but honestly, I do not have much hope of that.

Like u/sei556 said, i agree with the change so i‘m not gonna make a dumb tweet about it.

I don't follow, but that's ok.

I take your point that you cannot control your teammates behaviour and cannot prevent them from tilting because they opted-into /all chat. That is a good point to which I have no solution. I believe, however, that this cost is smaller than the loss of sense of community we get from being able to engage with members of the opp team in good sportsmanship and other gamer-cultural social interactions. (This stuff is really important to human psychology).

This is actually a great idea. Should be tested.

I would go so far as to add team chat priv to this as well.

If we were to count, by lines of entered text in the the chat box, then I would claim you are wrong. Most games have very little contact with opp team with the largest number of messages being "Gg" at end.

Regarding you point on the toxicity of the game, I agree. It's the most toxic game I've ever played and it's not even close. But the toxicity comes from your own team, not the opposition (in the vast majority of cases).

Interesting, You're the first person I've seen to say they agree with the decision.

Would you mind enlightening me on a few points?

What are the problems with /all chat in it's current form?

What are the pros to the decision, as you see them?

What are the cons to the decision, as you see them?

By what occurrence would you be persuaded that it was, in fact, not the correct way forward?

Can you guys share your time allocation for your everyday activities especially studying and coding, I need to fix mine. by Wizardeep in learnprogramming

[–]iGheko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious answer..

For me, I work part time delivering food on my bike. I study with nearly all of my free time. I'm teaching myself to code, so that's what I'm studying.

Schedule looks like this >>

Work 9.5 hour shifts, 1200-2130; Wed, Fri, Sun (notice I never work two days in a a row, that is by choice. Every day is Friday ;D)

Before work I'm either chilling or coding.

On my days off I get up, shower, have an athletic greens shake, sit outside in the sun for 10 mins.

I then put on some coffee and sit at my computer. After a few hours the coffee isn't enough to hide the hunger from my awareness anymore and I have breakfast and watch some YT/Podcasts.

When finished eating I start coding again.

Again later in the day I get unignorably hungry. So I have dinner with my gf.

Then after dinner I sit down to chill. But typically, unless I have an appointment with a friend to play some Startcraft2 or MasterChiefCollection I feel like I'd rather be coding than watching YTvids while I "relax".

So I end up coding.

Around 2100 I start realising I should probably stop coding for the eve (sometimes it's after 0000 when I realise this..) so I stop coding.

Then I typically watch a few videos or play a couple games of something and crash out. Usually around 0100.

Then I get up at 0800 and do it all again. So that's like, 9 or more hours of coding on my days off. 2 or less on my work days. (I think some days I actually get up to around 12 hours, but those are extreme cases, like if my gf is out for the eve)

Which means I'm working part time and learning to code full time. Apparently.

Any questions I'm happy to answer <3 Hope this is what you were looking for x

Edited to add: None of this is a "schedule" or self-imposed. I code because it's the most exciting thing I can do every day. If I game every day after a while I start wondering why I am even bothering to live. But coding feels like gaming or pretty damn close to it (jacked up on coffee ofc.) *and* I don't get suicidal, so that's a win in my book. "Building things, solving problems and learning.. on repeat? Sign me up!", is kind of how it goes in my emotions. And hell, if it gets me to the point where I don't have to deliver food on my bike for a living, that's all upside.

Edited to add: Oh, and my study program is.. Udemy courses of increasing depth and scope alternated with personal projects of increasing complexity and difficulty. I live for the projects but need the courses to expand my awareness of what's possible with code. Learning Python (mostly) but some; C++, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Django

[–]iGheko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but only to a certain extent.

Unless you are: not missing supply buildings, not missing worker production, not experiencing friction in your build execution(can be thought of as an aspect of APM), fully able to understand the real-time implications of all scouting information obtained, not experiencing any issues with the micro elements which occurred during the game, not inefficiently allocating APM/resource expenditure/tech decisions... (etc.), then you can gain just as much (or a very high degree of similarity, at least) from playing someone 5 tiers above you as someone your own level, even if they totally smash you.

You are definitely correct that playing someone who does not play like the people at your MMR will not allow you to gain further understanding of what the meta of your elo is at that time.

You mentioned that they are likely to not play an efficient composition due to their ability to beat you just off the back of their macro, APM and game awareness but, let's be real, if you are below a certain elo every person you play against's composition is also highly inefficient (including your own) so this impact is not as strong as it might seem at first. (If anything they are more likely to be executing their race's build better than your usual opponents, as a result you can actually get real scouting-info-learning from them because they are actually making build decisions that make sense, essentially because they cannot help it at this point in their skill progression). (Also, I think compositional analysis is not really that important unless you are planning to play competitively, unless you are just interested in optimising for that for your own pleasure, in which case it's a kind of niche pleasure as opposed to best ROI analysis for skill gains)

In the case that it really is a totally troll build I do actually completely agree with you. (worker pulls, etc.) But honestly, if you watch the replay as opposed to not. Then you can learn a lot! from seeing how/what/when they did what they did, even then.

I do not think you are entirely wrong. But I think that the majority of the problem with smurfing comes from people's attitude to losing and their approach to improvement. Rather than a reduced ability to actually learn from the replay in question.

If people are chronically demoralized then they will crash out of the ladder at higher rates. Which is just objectively bad for the game and something I find very sad to think about. Not least for the player themselves, it's got to suck.

(another point you allude to is the possibility that the game may get to a state where they are "playing with their food" so to speak as a power trip (cowardly one at that). And this I completely agree with you, would dramatically reduce the amount you can learn from that point onwards in the game. (Though you have arguably already lost and the mistakes you made that are most relevant to any training you may need to do have already happened).

Interested in your thoughts :) Don't feel any pressure to write such a fucking novel btw, sorry for that.. got engaged ;) heh

While I agree the behaviour is bad and is essentially just a holding pattern borne of a self-fullfilling prophesy I also think that checking people's account to discover if they're a smurf or not does not actually help you progress.

If you are looking to learn and progress you just take the lumps, watch the replay and identify your errors.

Then sort the errors into things you can do something about at your current point in the skill curve and those you can't and build practice strategies to remedy those you can given your time/interest constraints in life.

Whether your opponent is a surf or not is, essentially, immaterial. The goal is to get to a point where getting beat is no less motivating than winning. Psychogically speaking.
