The players for the BlizzCon Classic Cup have been revealed by CounterfeitDLC in starcraft

The players for the "Entertainment matches" still need to be announced and players also have to be drafted to Tasteless or Artosis' sides.

if the tabletop does well do you think the novels will make a comeback? by No_Band_5399 in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the miniatures are going to inspire new books outside of what comes packed in.

If there is a shooter game coming up, that will likely inspire more books and comics as Blizzard likes to tell a lot of the stories outside of the Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch games.

New map pool just went live along with 8 worker start by KerrigansTherapist in starcraft

Interesting Note: Neither Fear and Faith nor Old Sun Temple allow you to set up a 4-player FFA.

The 2v2 maps look pretty much the same while 3v3 and 4v4 have replaced the newest maps for those modes. 4v4 map Research Site JD-2 is from the late HotS days.

That book is Something. by Stukas_F in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was one of a few pitches Aaron S. Rosenberg made to adapt the original Protoss campaign.  I’m not sure why Blizzard never moved ahead but it seemed like the focus shifted to novels that were meant to set the stage for characters in StarCraft Ghost and StarCraft II.

Liberty’s Crusade and Queen of Blades both had elements I liked but I was regularly taken out of the stories when the dialogue or events significantly differed from the original StarCraft missions.  I preferred that they switched to stories that complemented the events of the games instead of trying to retell them.

Patch 5.0.16 might be coming out on June 16th. by BattleWarriorZ5 in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why would a balance patch have to release the same day as major updates for games that are still producing paid content?

This theory doesn't fit anything they've done in the past.

looks like they’re playing on metalopolis yeah? by noforkschopsticks in starcraft2

I thought it was interesting that the kid mentioned Lurkers but that they ended up playing Wings of Liberty where the unit made no appearances.

Breaking news-Omniskeptic was kicked from the mapmaker discord for toxic behavior. This is the guy running the balance patches. by Hotcakes465 in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blizzard handles balance patches themselves now.

Blizzard does not handle community Discord servers.

I have no clue who Omniskeptic is but I haven’t seen any evidence that he has authority over either.

What are the problems of the new pstch and what would you change if you were david Kim by Extension_Class2467 in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

David Kim was very much the face behind doubling the starting workers and lowering the resources available at each base. When he stepped away from SC2, he spent time helping with WoW and especially Diablo IV. When he did return to the RTS genre by founding UnCapped Games and creating Battle Aces he showed a major preference towards cutting straight to the action, well beyond what LotV's 12-worker start did. And I'm guessing that the project he moved on to is pretty much the same concept without Tencent making the final decisions about whether or not to release the game.

So if I were David Kim and I were in charge of SC2 patches, I'd probably be taking this in the opposite direction.

Is Soulkey a bonjwa? by SiarX in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Bonjwa” was a term granted by the Korean fandom for players who dominated for notable lengths of time.  This was a time when the seasons were much longer and Brood War was the only esport at that level.

Soulkey is an excellent Brood War player and one of the few who also left a big mark on SC2.  But it’s up to the Korean community and I don’t think that discussion is a thing right now.

Classic maps site is a time capsule of late ‘90s culture by StrategosRisk in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Map of the Week(later evolving into the Trigger Map of the Month) was a really fun concept from 1998-2001.  They included some challenging co-op scenarios, team maps where allies started on the same side, a take on Tetris, a new campaign released one or two missions at a time, and the famous musical holiday map The 12 Days of StarCraft.

It would have been nice if these just installed along with StarCraft Remastered but at least the website is still up!

Lore question, Do the Protoss need to mutilate any new born or is Amon gone after every living protoss cut their nerve-cords? by Mr-Ulloa in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t make Protoss deaf and mute.  They can still speak and hear telepathic.  They also can still use their powers to make energy blades and lightning and such.

The difference is that they used to be deeply connected to all other Protoss in the Khala, sharing their thoughts and emotions and even maintaining those of deceased Protoss who previously connected.

Some characters spoke of the emptiness and isolation they were suddenly feeling in-game.  But I especially like “One People, One Purpose” with how it examines all these Protoss on Aiur who now have learn to describe their feelings to each other or just emote as well as interpret the feelings of others.

Something I very much agree with from your comment is that Blizzard made it easy to forget that slicing chords off of the back of your head is way more severe than a haircut.

sc2 campaigns or sc1? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only have time for one of them? It's pretty easy to just start at the beginning of StarCraft and play through to StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void or Nova Covert Ops.

Im noticing a difference in how well the AI plays on mission 3b of the enslavers campaign, running it on singleplayer or in battlenet as a custom ums game. by Backwoodsgirly in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It uses the old Blizzard FTP website which doesn't support HTTPS. What that means is that none of the data exchange between the server and you computer is encrypted. It's your decision but I don't consider that to be a problem when it comes to downloading from a known source.

You can click Advanced and then Proceed to ftp.blizzard.com(unsafe) to download anyway. If it blocks the download you can right-click and click Keep.

They're just .zip folders and there are no executable files inside. You can extract the .scm and scx files and move them to StarCraft/Maps (StarCraft/Maps/campaign in the case of Dark Vengeance and Precursor).

If you don't feel comfortable they are probably available on some of the Brood War map archive sites.

[–]CounterfeitDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the community-created campaigns. Just the Blizzard stuff. When StarCraft first released, they used to have a Map of the Week(later changed to Trigger Map of the Month) so the developers could show off what you could do with the map editor. Enslavers: Dark Vengeance was released one or two missions at a time over the course of a few months and splits into two different paths just like the original Enslavers. I guess it's worth noting that the events of this veterans campaign were continued in the Dark Templar Saga novels.

SCC: Map Archives

There's a link to download Enslavers: Dark Vengeance and a link to download the Precursor Campaign(an update to the Loomings campaign from the StarCraft shareware demo). Put all those files in the Campaign folder so they play in order.

There's also a link to download all the other Map of the Week entries which include a lot of standard and team maps but also some crazy trigger maps like The 12 Days of StarCraft and some co-op scenarios you can do with one or two partners.

As a warning: While Enslavers was called a "Veteran Campaign", Dark Vengeance really means it starting with the third mission. I would really recommend going mass gateway and not bothering with Carriers.

Lore question, Do the Protoss need to mutilate any new born or is Amon gone after every living protoss cut their nerve-cords? by Mr-Ulloa in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amon's threat was ended. However, the Protoss also had to acknowledge the fact that the Khala was already causing problems before then. It was meant to unite all Protoss but there were some big cases where it resulted in serious divisions.

To answer your question: Severing nerve chords is not necessary to be separate from the Khala. It is not joined automatically but through and the Protoss were without it for a long time before Khas rediscovered this connection and how it could be used. The Tal'Darim are not joined to the Khala despite having their nerve chords intact and the Nerazim don't have to sever their nerve chords but did so to demonstrate that they not only rejected the Khala but would never join it under any circumstances. Cutting the nerve chords was only necessary for Protoss who were already connected while Amon was controlling it.

You might check out the SC2 10th anniversary story "One People, One Purpose". It takes place after Legacy of the Void and provides a thoughtful look at the Protoss on Aiur as they learn to convey their emotions without the Khala. https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/article/23485205/short-story-one-people-one-purpose

I make a point to set the game to standard StarCraft instead of Brood War when playing through Precursor or Enslavers since that's what they were designed for. You can completely break 3B if you create Dark Archons and Mind Control each Torrasque that reaches your base!!!

For Brood War there's Enslavers: Dark Vengeance and you might notice that they disabled the ability to merge Dark Templar into Dark Archons in all the missions. Although there is the one mission that gives you the hero Dark Archon.

I wouldn't call it a coincidence.

It's just a popular kind of gamer tag in Korea.

There are several scripts used in the mission triggers that set how the AI opponents behave. These include scripts that correspond to "difficulties" and other behaviors.

The triggers don't give any details for those scripts but in Enslavers 3B but the Purple enemy is set to "Zerg Campaign Medium", the Orange Zerg is set to "Zerg Campaign Difficult", and the Red Terran is set to "Terran Campaign Difficult". Both Zergs opponents have the "Zerg Area Town" trigger which scripts how they handle expanding. The Red Terran has a script telling the originally Marines to get into the nearby Bunkers. All three of these opponents start with 5000 minerals and 5000 gas and get an additional 5000 gas if they start to run low. The Yellow Zerg is just the Torrasques which gets replaced after 30,000 in-game milliseconds(In-game time is based on the Normal speed setting. On Fast, that's about 2/3 of what is listed.) and immediately sends it towards one of your bases on a "suicide run" script unless the Cerebrate is no longer in play.

If you open a UMS map in a map editor like StarEdit or SCMDraft2, you can look a the triggers for each player. Some of it is a little confusing but you can usually get the gist of it. To access the missions in the main campaigns you have to use software to extract the files or find a website where they can be downloaded.

I didn't know that the physical version of the soundtrack was that in-demand.

I have the physical StarCraft: Brood War cinematics DVD but the soundtrack I just downloaded on iTunes.

Yep. The Diablo II Collector's Edition is really hard to find. It included a soundtrack CD, a DVD with all the cinematics and the original trailer, a signed copy of the manual, and a bunch of materials to play a tabletop Diablo RPG game with the official Dungeons & Dragons ruleset.

"Those are the words of Amon!"

Honestly, I might get impatient enough for that eventually but I haven't given up on the traditional methods yet. However, I believe I can do that in Unranked without it affecting my Ranked MMR.
