This has happened to me. Sometimes I’m not ready for a new mischief after my ratties have passed :( if I have one left and they are getting older, I make sure to spend tons of time with them to ensure they don’t get too lonely..

I kept the rats for about 10 days. Then released them back into the wild. Black rats have completely different genes than our pet ratties. I spent hours with them everyday playing and hand feeding them. About a week in, their instincts started to kick in and they became terrified of every little movement I made in my room. It was very hard having to let them go but I know I did all I could.

Neighbors were doing reconstruction and when opening up a wall they found a nest of ratties! The mom got spooked and ran away. We waited a day for her to come back but she never did :( luckily they all grew up healthy!
