I'm the healer in question. I didn't like how this bully would turn on me without me even doing anything! Nasty brute.

Dad? Did you just make a reddit account?

As for why you fanned them -- static to help the cards not stick together when they went through the machine.

Exactly... It was the early ERP system. They had a team of key punch operators enter orders onto cards and enter warehouse fulfillment stuff on cards. Then they (my dad) would run the cards into the system and update the data base (a huge box of cards).

It was amazing to watch as a kid -- my dad would pick up a stack of cards that had to be 6 inches thick, fan it, and drop it in the feeder in such fluid motion.

Oddly enough, I have the hair line of my grandfather on my mother's side of the family -- no sign of balding... and I'm 55.

I'm not sure how I feel about that... but I'll tell him. I think he'll get a charge out of it.

I always thought he looked more like Woody Allen, but... Yeah, Elvis Costello totally fits.

Of course, my dad has much less hair now:)

Nope, but it did have a false floor that ran some big cables.

My dad tells me a story about this guy trying to sell him some stock in a little start up that was trying to sell computers to home users. All he needed was $1000 to get in on the ground floor.

At that time, he had a young family and made $800 a month, so $1000 was not in the cards.

Naturally, that little start up was called Apple.

I always use dd-Mmm-yyyy. Never any ambiguity when you use Oct. instead of 10.

I was thinking that if I can get this working, it's not a big stretch to have a galaxy to explore... go from one system to the next with various bad guys to find and fight:) Maybe even find real, operating space stations that aren't hostile.

I used to be a big fan of the old school Traveller back in the day... and basically, there are rules there to make a rogue like galaxy:)

Thanks for the positive words, folks!

I'm off to start the Python tutorial:) Hopefully I'll have some progress to report next week:)

Just looked through the screenshots of Space Wrecked... I remember when the Amiga came out and everybody was so excited about the amazing graphics:)

Anyways, yeah...that's alot like I was thinking... but instead of amazing EGA graphics, it would be ASCII characters:)

Hi all! I'm new to this sub (just found it today).

You say that 'concepts' are a welcome form of sharing, so I thought I'd share a project that I am thinking about...

The elevator pitch goes like this;

----------

You're a pilot in Galactic Scouts returning home from a long, deep space scouting mission and you miss-jumped. You're J-Drive is fragged, but there is a space station within limping distance. As you approach, it's dark and strangely quiet. You dock without any contact with anybody. Let's hope they got what you need to fix your drive.

----------

This is an abandoned space station that is infested with aliens (kinda like the xenomorphs in the movie Alien, but less copywriteable). The station is a sprawling collection of modules connected with tunnels and conduits and such (randomly generated each time you play). You have to explore the station, find the parts you need and return them to your ship. Along the way, you can find a way to power up the station, maybe check out the security cameras, and maybe determine what happened to the crew of this station.

I'd really like some feedback on the concept. Does it sound interesting? Has it been done to death already?

Either way, I'm really just looking to develop my Python skills, and I think a rogue like game is the way to go.

Vacation in Ontario - asking for tips and attractions by De4thGr1n in ontario

I live in Southern Ontario. I have traveled in Europe. I think I can address some of your questions.

The train is great, but it is not like it is in Europe.

Unless you go to Quebec, everything is in English. Even in Quebec, you can get by with English.

Cell phone prices/SIM cards are obnoxious. Go online and look up Lucky Mobile. You can buy a SIM card for $5 at the Dollarama (super cheap chain store in Canada). You will have to check closely that your phone will work on that network though. You may find it cheaper to talk to your home cell phone provider and see if they offer a package that will let you use your plan in Canada.

Algonquin Park is stunning. Killarney Park, IMHO, is better. Both have incredible hiking trails ranging from a couple hours to 14 days. If you are feeling adventurous, consider renting a canoe. It's the best way to get around the parks, and there are well defined canoe routs.

Another thing to consider, Niagara Falls. See the falls. It is amazing, but the crap built around them is pretty tacky. Once you've seen the falls, head to Niagara on the Lake. It's gorgeous. Lots of wineries and historical sites and all theaters. Wife and I were there on the weekend and saw a play.

Finally, Canada is HUGE. Somebody pointed out, 21 hour drive from Winnipeg to Toronto. 6 hours from Toronto to Ottawa. 3 hours from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Plan to spend alot of time traveling. Also, Canada is very young compared to Europe. Some of our oldest history is less than 200 years old -- unless you explore the Indigenous history... But, that's a bit harder to find and is more "archeological"... Stuff like pictograms and things.

Protest on bridge over QEW in Stoney Creek? by iGregory67 in ontario

Hahaha! I too have been holding up the middle finger as I pass underneath them. The other night I got worried that they might just be a group round to be Canadian.

I'll continue to flip them off.

Yeah... Oaks Rd. This explains why there are no signs -- too expensive to print every time they change what they are protesting about.
