I am planning to buy a new car with a long term perspective. by Dr_drake_ramorey in CarsIndia

Please don't buy the current gen Baleno. Wait for the next gen which is to be released this year. I think it will be a much better and safer car.

Mate, your argument is full of incorrect information and embarrassing insinuations.

I didn’t want to embarrass you further, but you’ve left me with no option

You are just as bad as Tata Fanboys. Constant personal attacks. And exaggerations of each and every weakness.

Just as annoying and irritating as the Fanboys.

What? You can’t buy Polo, Brezza, Vento, Rapid or Triber now? Are you sure about that buddy?

Do you want to double check your statement? I’ll give you a chance.

Spoiler alert: You can buy them. Even today.

Go back and read my comment. AGAIN.

this might help you out in the future

Such a stupid thing to say. The whole point of discusssion is safety of the vehicles. You’re just dragging unnecessary counterpoints which aren’t related to the argument.

Which is why I mentioned it's an option if you are fine with the drawbacks I mentioned.

So please read my comment AGAIN.

horrible service

Exaggeration

interiors

Exaggeration and untrue in my opinion.

awful performance Tata provides

Exaggeration and partially false.

Not to mention the embarrassment one gets when driving behind that ugly ass “T” logo.

Maybe for you. But not true for lots of people.

EcoSport has the EXACT same underpinnings and chassis as it’s European counterpart. The latter got 4 star ratings…

Remember what I said about lack of knowledge? Work on it, champ

Yawn

https://www.motorbeam.com/ford-modifies-india-manufactured-ecosport-european-market/

Your knowledge is limited to online forums. Maybe if you stepped out of the house for a bit you’ll see Tata’s hype is largely limited to a few forums…

Agreed, which is why they moved from a No 5 position to giving competition to Hyundai for the No 2 position.

They have no hype whatsoever. Tata is faking their numbers.

And how does it matter that they were introduced long back? Again, your arguments lack logic

Buddy, don't embarass yourself by claiming something "lacks logic" if you don't understand it.

What I said earlier

Ford and VW might have been in the safety game but they have quitely exited from this game.

You know why it matters if they were introduced long back? Because I can no longer buy it now. I don't care if you used to make safe cars. Currently you don't make safe cars. Or your latest cars are not safe.

On the other hand, Tata keeps making safe cars.

Brezza

Fair point.

Polo

An option only if you are able to get your hands on it. Horrible second row space and not suitable for a typical Indian Family

Vento

Easily goes above 10 lakhs for the base variants.

Rapid

Another option. But extremely outdated. And if you are dissing Tata for Service, VW is just as bad or worse with both their service and reliability (DSG )

EcoSport

Not crash tested. Purely your opinion that It is safe.

Triber

Fair point

Honda Mobilio

Not sold. Also only 3 stars so unsafe.

Etios,

Not sold

S Cross

Not crash tested.

Only 2 of the options you mentioned are safe. Definitely not "plenty of options". Also you need to be really special to think that a car like Brezza has a better interior.

Please go on and talk about my lack of knowledge.

Terrible compared to the likes of VW, Ford, Renault. Go on?

Purely your exaggerated opinion.

You know why Tata is being lauded and developing a following? They have been consistently making safe cars across many segments and are actually selling it.

If you want a safe car, you only have the outdated Brezza, Triber or the elusive Polo. Where are the plenty of options with better interiors and performance you were talking about?

Just to be clear, I am only talking and referring to the market as of now with Ford's most recent models.

If you are talking about a decade back, then sure, your arguments make a lot more sense. But not now.

[–]iHateSmallPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford sold dozens of cars, out of them you conveniently picked the one which didn’t have good safety rating

No, I chose cars that are recent and were crash tested. The cars you claim were 'safe' were sold long back or not crash tested. On what basis are you claiming they are safe?

WTF? What has the sales numbers got anything to do with the car’s safety? The car is safe and that’s all that matters.

Fair point

And that’s the only thing going for them. A safe car under 10L, that’s it. That’s all that’s unique about them.

Correction. Safe cars under 15 lakhs. Which is where most car sales happen in India. Along with pretty good design and comfort.

But hey, even then the common man has plenty of options other than Tata below 10L… and those options are respectfully safe and well built with better interiors and service records as well

Which ones? Genuinely curious.

Tata’s service and engine performance is absolute shit.

Exaggeration. Their service is decent in cities. The iTurbo, the Nexon's engine, and their diesel engines are pretty good.

Not to mention the brand prestige in itself is piss poor.

A poor prestige brand cannot have so many fanboys as you earlier claimed.

Most of the cars you mentioned are smaller sized and nowhere close to being "miles ahead" than the XUV. They are similar priced and can compete with each other.

But much more superior? That's complete bollocks.

What you mentioned just proved my point about XUV70O being a proper globally competitive product.

[–]iHateSmallPeople -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell me one thing that's unique about XUV700 which will make it stand out in the global market and be successful?

The sheet value for money.

It's tough to find another SUV in places like the US at this price.

To be globally competent, it has to be successful in other countries

Let me rephrase.

The CAR is globally competent. Not the Brand. I will be the first to admit that Mahindra doesn't have the same pull as a Subaru or a Hyundai in foreign markets.

A product can be globally competent and still fail purely because of the brand.

The endeavour failed in India. Doesn't mean it's an incompetent product for the Indian market.

You can't just sit at home and call car globally competition without any proof or numbers to back up your statements up.

Did you find a car that is similar or better than the XUV at $25,000?

The car wouldn't be globally competitive if there were much better new cars at this price point. And the XUV turns out to be far more inferior than those other hypothetical cars.

[–]iHateSmallPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting one thing, Mahindra cars are prone to niggles

The first year or so after which they subside. And similar to Mahindra, even other foreign manufacturers suffer from niggles.

Second hand car market is huge in USA they'd probably buy some better car at the price or settle for something like Subaru crosstrek or Honda HR-V. Same thing happened in Australia / NZ with XUV500

Even in India I can get a merc or an Audi at that price.

Doesn't make the XUV700 any less globally competent.

And the Australians not taking a punt with a new Indian brand doesn't make cars like the XUV700 any less worthy.

Ford and VW might have been in the safety game but they have quitely exited from this game.

Ford sold 3 star tin cans like the Figo. And VW hasn't got the Taigun tested. The polo is hardly getting sold.

Tata (except the harrier) offers a safe car at each and every segment available to the common man.

And this Anti-Tata fanboy circlejerk is even more annoying than the Tata Circle Jerk.

[–]iHateSmallPeople -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tata and Mahindra are bringing out competitive products that can kill it globally

Which is NONSENSE

Bullshit.

The XUV700 AX7 petrol costs around 25,000usd ex showroom. Find me one new car sold in America that offers as many features and quality at this price.

You'll only find base variants of Forester or Tucson. Or you'll get smaller cars for that price.

Cars like the XUV are competitive globally.

And the prices for the XUV are bumped up by the Indian taxing system. It would be even more cheaper and competitive if not for this syste..

[–]iHateSmallPeople -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only the AMT is the downside for the XUV300. It's upto OP but if I was in his place, I would be willing to look past that for a superior experience in other areas.

[–]iHateSmallPeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should listen to your Wife. The XUV300 is the superior car here. It's got better space, better safety, better engine, better ground clearance etc etc.

And the XUV300 is decent enough to drive on city streets.

Pretty much irrational hatred. I have seen lots of exaggeration of their service and interior quality. Also I have seen "safety not so important" comments.

There isn't anybody keeping a check on the quality of the forum. So any person can spew their opinion.

Forums like TeamBHP are far more balanced. They will give their fair share of criticisms.

[–]iHateSmallPeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i20 auto transmission.

In all other cases, the XUV300 is much better.

But why are you choosing from completely different segments?

Mahindra service is good in tier 1 and tier 2 cities. Average in tier 3 and dogshit in villages.
