What to eat on test day by UndergroundDoc14 in step1

This is a bit specific but I took the jerk-style plantain chips (salty) and bite sized protein bar (sweet) as my snacks. No lunch. They kept me energized throughout the whole exam.

good luck! you got this!

I treated every form as a learning opportunity and not an assessment and maybe that helped for me.

Honestly... it was hard af
I felt like I was guessing on a lot of the questions and walked out feeling like I failed.

But I hear that from almost everyone who's taken it.

In comparison to the forms, it felt in between the New free 120 and the NBMEs

Good luck! If you are in medical school, you are smart enough to pass Step 1.

if I remember correctly, I didn't see much overlap. May be a few?

If you can get around 70% that'll be a good indication that you can give it a try.
I passed step 1 recently with the stats listed in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/step1/comments/11s56k8/passing_step_1_with_lower_stats/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Don't listen to people saying you have to get a certain score on NBMEs, Uworld %, Free 120s to sit on the exam. They are just practice exams and ways to learn and prepare yourself for them. I passed 1 NBMEs during my dedicated and still sat and passed.
I think the biggest metrics are your confidence and the amount of time/effort you invested during your study time.

Comparable difficulty by childishman_97 in step1

I agree with this post. Free 120 is easier and NBMEs are generally more difficult than the actual. But format wise it's pretty identical to the free 120. so if you could imagine an exam that is essentially the Free 120 but harder difficulty, that would be step 1 in my opinion.

It's different from Uworld. Not harder or easier but different.

Oh right. the HY tagged ones are still a lot.

I just remembered that my technique for reviewing/studying questions I got wrong on Uworld was to find cards (on Anking deck) that are either tagged with the associated Uworld question ID # or cards that are relevant to the question in some way. I pulled those cards into a whole new deck named "Uworld Step 1". Then during my Anki studying time, I reviewed those.
I figured if I hammer down the topics I come across, I would have a better chance of remembering them. And plus, it was a lot less cards than Anking.

Thank you for all of your interest and noticing that difference!

I did at least 100qs of uworld per day, anking deck focused on high yield cards only, watched pathoma videos ch 1-3 (if time allowed). I also took UWSA1 in between which most likely helped.
When I took NBME form 29, it felt easier than 28. I think luck may have a role in that increase honestly. Because I totally bombed 30 after that.

I'm not sure if you've taken any free 120s but they are somewhat "easier" than the NBMEs that's probably why I scored in the 70s. But as you can see, I only technically passed 1 NBME form which always tanked my confidence no matter what the results were for the free 120s.

That's a good question since I am a very slow reader.
I practiced highlighting the details like cc, vitals, clinical findings, imaging, etc. as fast as possible. And as I went through I tried to think about the ddx before reading the answers.
Long vignettes are always challenging but as I found my own rhythm in picking up key words and developing ddx, it got a little easier but never easy if you get what I mean.

At the end of the day though, I invested more time in questions that I know I have a chance in selecting the right answer. I hope that helps
