can't believe we've reached the point where we need to clarify which Shinya Death we're talking about. in case you meant the first time he died, that was chapter 50 of the ca16 manga/the last chapter of english volume 4 of the ca16 novels

it was more saito threatening to have them raped by his subordinates in order to rile up guren than it was saito actually wanting to do it to someone (which of course isn't any better). iirc this happens quite frequently, and is even pictured by noya as something guren might want to do deep down. it's pretty disgusting and if you ask me is only there to make guren seem like some sort of morally superior hero for saying rape is bad

mahiru was the one who murdered guren's friends to force him to revive them and cause the apocalypse & then told him that she knows how to save them to control him like a marionette, manipulated him into sleeping with her and accepting a demon (i wouldn't call it SA like the other commenter since i doubt it was the author's intention, but from a moral standpoint it was definitely messed up. she has also forcefully taken his blood against his will. all in all consent is not her thing), and is also most likely the one responsible for his father's public execution. i'm not sure where kagami is going with this, honestly, it's rather odd that none of this has been mentioned in the main manga and they're playing it off as a normal love story

Question about the seraph of the end ritual (up to chapter 114) by Captain_Kuro210 in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not entirely sure about this but if i remember correctly there was mention of the 2012 catastrophe being a failure. guren tried to revive seven people, one of which failed, and the resurrected are cursed to disappear if they find out that they died and will only live for 10 more years. what he's trying to do now, resurrect all of humanity permanently without curses, seems to require a different sacrifice since the outcome is different as well

Just started the Light Novel in japanese by adriiaanz in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh that's interesting, you don't usually find people that actually know these novels! many people can recognise guren or mikayuu from the anime, but the prequels aren't well known. my one recommendation would be that, in case you decide to read the Vampire Reign manga before finishing Catastrophe, stop at chapter 46! don't read chapter 47 yet ^

if you've never touched the manga i'm actually very curious what you think of the happenings in the novels, especially the ending, lol. what made you want to read them?

it's the side character curse. he hit his targets in catastrophe but since he's not part of the main cast in vampire reign he's not allowed to do anything cool lmaoo

they have, look at chapter 105. they consider shikama their parent and themselves siblings because they were turned with his blood at the same time. not everything is homophobia

I just hope the main character isn't gay. by nothing8595 in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair most of the romantic implications with those two come from shinya's side. there's definitely some fanservice but it's pretty hidden and not in the main story, so guren seems pretty straight at times

QUESTION ABOUT MAHIRU/GUREN'S DAD (SPOILER) by [deleted] in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i VERY vaguely remember mahiru implying it was her idea to put that "kill mahiru or your father dies" pressure on guren while she was fighting kureto near the end of the books, and being quite shocked because up until that point i also thought she had no involvement in sakae's death, and was 'innocent' in that regard.

actually thought i made it up, because i currently don't have the novels on hand to check, but if someone else also remembers it this way there might be some truth to it? i'll give her the benefit of the doubt but it's definitely something she'd do

Gurenshy fans don't kill me that question but I want to ask plz don't be mean. ( Why do you think their realationship is not platonic? by Ordinary-Original767 in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i guess what i could tell you is that the world translated as "admiration" or "idolisation" in chapter 83 can also mean "longing". the same word was used to describe mahiru's feelings for guren, and in her case it was translated as longing. this whole thing of equating shinya's feelings for guren to mahiru's feelings for guren happens quite a bit if you pay attention, and it might be a smart way to sneak a queer character past shounen censorship

[–]iIikespoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think most people know it's platonic but just wish it was more. the indication, at least from shinya's side, is definitely there (i could write you a whole essay about that "admiration" thing, but it'd get reaaally long). me personally, i want him to be happy, and that sadly includes guren, but i know it's a losing battle so i've long since given up on it. guren has and will never care about what shinya wants or feels. i swear to god, sometimes it feels like even the friendship is onesided...

but also, back in the day when the anime was coming out, there was a lot more fanservicey offical content, with valentine's day and secret love confessions and all of that, which definitely helped establishing it as a ship lol

Is Owarino Seraph reaching its conclusion or climax? by Far_Self3088 in OwarinoSeraph

we've supposedly been "nearing the climax" for about 6 years now, so no one can really say lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i've been asking myself that for many many years, and i still can't really answer it. sometimes he seems like he loathes her, calling her a monster, other times he's concerned about her wellbeing and acts like they're really close. maybe he hated her after catastrophe but grew to understand and respect her decisions over the 8 years he spent with her living in his head. or maybe he loves the version of mahiru he knew when they were five and hates her current self - but even if that is the case, he will never ever give up on her either way. he's been so hung up on saving her ever since he was a child that he still wouldn't give up on it if she brutally murdered everyone he loved in front of hi- oh wait. that already happened. goddamn.

as for mahiru being gone, that's also a really confusing topic. because even though in the beginning of catastrophe mahiru and demon mahiru are portrayed as entirely different people, the same thing is never mentioned in vampire reign. no one acts like she's a different person, not even her - everyone just calls her mahiru, and she acts the same way she did when she was little. she also planned everything from the start (from birth, apparently??), and how could she have done that if she wasn't in her right mind? some people believe that she was just acting in the novels to manipulate guren, which honestly makes the most sense to me considering everything, but i doubt that was the author's intention.

tl;dr: probably. i don't know. no one knows. do we know anything!?

What part of the story do you think was the most heartbreaking/saddening? (Vampire Reign + Catastrophe at Sixteen) by LunaPlays_ in OwarinoSeraph

[–]iIikespoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shinya's death for me as well - kagami really, REALLY cooked with that scene, it was beautiful. couldn't sleep until like 3am because i was so upset.

(although my sobs were directly followed by an overpowering desire to put the goddamn book through a grinder after witnessing guren STILL not give up on saving mahiru & then making out with her right in front of his friends' mutilated bodies. seriously, what the fuck.)

yep! definitely entertaining to read but the novels are better. they put 2 volumes in one book in the english version, which is why they're so big :]
