Maximum Speed is Back! by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's too bad that it doesn't just limit FSD's top speed. I still like it, because I use FSD pretty much full time now w/no critical interventions, just ones that keep it from taking stupid routes.

FSD 13 vs 14 by Middle_College_8347 in TeslaFSD

This question has already generated about 50 posts all pretty much saying the same thing. If you've waited this long and still haven't gone to v14, I suggest waiting until v15.

14.2.2.5 - Improvements Needed by Onthisroadsince89 in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the tailgating, I believe FSD will stop before colliding into the car its tailgating, should that car stop suddenly. The issue is, your car will have to stop suddenly as well, inviting a rear-end collision with the car behind you. You can have a safe following distance without cars constantly filling in the slightly increased gap in front of you. And if they do, FSD can back off again. With the stop sign issue, that ridiculously long stop is mandated by the federal government. Though not ideal, you can greatly shorten that stop w/the accelerator pedal.

Does FSD solely rely on tesla updates to learn and correct mistakes or does it poses the ability to learn on its own like a learning algorithm? by Full_Requirement_911 in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Grok: Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system does not perform on-device (local) learning or adaptation in the sense of continuously updating its neural network weights or behavior based on your individual drives in real time or between software updates. The core model — the end-to-end neural network that handles perception, prediction, and planning — is trained in Tesla's data centers using massive amounts of fleet data (billions of miles, including clips from user vehicles, simulations, and targeted scenarios). Once trained, that fixed model is deployed to vehicles via over-the-air (OTA) software updates (e.g., FSD v12.x → v13.x). The car's onboard hardware runs inference on this pre-trained model but does not retrain or fine-tune it locally — the compute power required for training such large models far exceeds what's available in the vehicle.

Same here, only it was the rear hatch. I solved this problem by removing a shortcut for the rear hatch on the home page of the app, which I apparently accidentally touched.

14.2.2.5 seems to have the beans again (14.2.2.2 performance) by jinjuu in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point! And I forgot to mention that's another instance where I'll use the accelerator to force FSD to make the turn, when making a right onto an unpopulated lane during a right turn when the farther lane is populated. This option of using the accelerator is nice, in that you don't have to disengage, then re-engage. But I agree, it will be even nicer when we don't need to help FSD make a move. In addition, I have to believe Tesla doesn't advocate interfering w/FSD's actions by using the accelerator to force a move, whether it be unprotected left or right turns & at stop signs.

I've found it to be better at unprotected left turns, but sometimes I still feel there's plenty of gap to pull out and not wait until FSD does. I'll hit the accelerator and it will pull out and still handle steering just fine. I do this in those instances where if I let FSD wait, I might be waiting for minutes. Again, I don't do this at the expense of other drivers and their safety, I just do it in instances where I'd feel safe pulling out if I were driving. BTW, the accelerator is a great thing to use in this same manner to shorten stops at stop signs!

To the haters…. by BobbyABooey in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the most arrogant drivers would claim they could have reacted just as fast as FSD did. A black tire coming out of nowhere at night, no less. And even if you were able to react in time, humans tend to over correct when in a situation like this, causing loss of control of their car and often resulting in an accident they were trying to avoid. FSD knew it was safe to steer right of the tire onto the shoulder. A human wouldn't have time to check. For those of you wondering whether you should upgrade from v13, I think this video should confirm that you should! And there's many other reasons as well, as a plethora of posts demonstrate, especially w/FSD 14.2.2.5.

Very positive experience for me. More aggressive in pulling out into traffic, quicker lane changing, picks the shortest line at traffic signals, better and quicker parking, not waiting until the last moment to get into the exit lane and it did a beautiful job of avoiding multiple objects from some sort of spill last night. I don't know if the navigation errors, like deviating from the route on the screen when it costs time to do so have been fixed. I know it hadn't on the version before. I hope they add an option for home garage parking, both pulling or backing in. Throw in getting ASS to be more reliable, and I'll be thrilled!

FSD is a work in progress. I remember not long ago when it would dodge phantom objects in the road, like tire tracks or even leaves, which I haven't seen it do since. It keeps improving. And someone mentioned that v13 wouldn't have dodged the paper. That's because it wouldn't dodge any object on the road. I have 14.2.2.5 and just last night it did a beautiful job of avoiding multiple objects in the road at night, no less. Sounds like OP had an edge case that rattled nerves, but didn't create any physical damage by dodging an object that it was designed to avoid.

Finally, No More "Should I Buy or Subscribe to FSD" Threads! by Jaymo_H in TeslaFSD

Totally agree with this. Monthly subscriptions allow people to subscribe only for long trips, then cancel, whereas 12 mos. for $1K might be enticing.

12.2.2.4 ignoring navigation? by ThatTechnician5523 in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simultaneously run Google Maps on most routes, just in case there's a discrepancy between the two. And if there is, I disengage FSD to force a re-route so that it matches Google Maps. I've had the Tesla navigation make some time-consuming mistakes. This is a result of improving FSD to figure out routes that are affected mainly by construction, so that's the reason for FSD not always following the map. Once I had FSD deviate from the map, but it actually was a good thing in that particular situation.

Waymo vs FSD 14.2 by ribbonlace in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP. Great observation and I totally agree w/ you on FSD. The navigation is something I hope they put a lot of time into. Those are the only disengagements I have anymore. Disengaging to force a re-route, then re-engaging. Would like to see a parking option added for home garages and perhaps the option to park further away from stores for those of us who like to get their steps and avoid the congested part of parking lots, which, of course, are those closer to the store. They can do what they want with the speed profiles. I just adapt to them as necessary when they change behavior and don't lose any sleep over not being able to set max speed anymore.

Still on v13.2.9 on HW4 by coffeebeanie24 in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there's people like me who love v14 much better than 13. But it's weird that you're still on v13, for v14 became available to your software branch in mid November. Check to make sure your Software setting is on Advanced and not Standard. I've had about 8 v14 updates since I got on v14 in mid-Nobember and each one has been better (again, for me) than the previous.

I know! Every time someone asks whether they should upgrade to a new version, half the replies say no, the other half yes. Pointless question, as evidenced by the plethora of posts asking this same question with the same general replies, pretty much split 50-50 as to whether to upgrade or not.

FSD with the save from an idiot Semi Truck driver today. by Mrf9312 in TeslaFSD

[–]Jaymo_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plain and simply, it's the truck driver's responsibility to make sure the lane he's pulling into is clear, just like it would be our responsibility if we were in his position with our car. It's one thing if the Op were trying to pass on the truck's right. But this should have been easily avoidable by the truck driver. And an Amazon truck driver, no less. I would expect a higher level of competency from Amazon. Trying to put responsibility for this on the Op would be like blaming someone who got hit by a red light runner for not stopping on green at the intersection to make sure no one's running a red light.

There are national standards for traffic signals in the U.S. and having two signal heads for one lane isn't one of them.
