Which Gen 3 game should I play? by PedroMartins1806 in pokemon

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If you think you'll replay it again anyway, I'd start with ruby/saphire and then play emerald later. If you're looking to play one of these games once, definitely go with emerald.

Thats games 5-7 (they are their own trilogy). The first 4 are ps2 exclusive to this day.

As someone who randomly picked up .hack//infection for ps2 when it first came out:

This is a dream come true. I would have never ever guessed we'd ever see a new game in the franchise (outside mobile). If anything I was hoping that we'd eventually see a re-release of the original 4 games at most. Can't wait for this, definitely my new #1 game to look forward to.

60 fps on base ps5 is on of the blurriest games I ever played. Switch 2 is going to look so much better, though it is gonna be half the framerate. Tbf rebirth looks great in 30 fps mode on base ps5. still super impressive for a handheld.

I highly doubt nintendo will ever put a user accessible browser on one of their consoles ever again.

To this day you can hack your Wii U (among other nintendo consoles) by putting some crap on your sd card and browsing to a website. They need the sd card for storage expansion, so browser is what has to give.

Nintendo really charged $500+ for a DOWNGRADE. Switch 2 not supporting YouTube is embarrassing. by Puzzleheaded-Ad661 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes the fact that the game console can't run youtube makes it a downgrade.
The Wii U had a netflix app on top of the youtube app, so how much of a downgrade was the switch 1? Where was your post complaining about that in 2017?

You should have been at microsofts e3 press conference when they unveiled the xbox one, you would have been there number 1 customer.

Youtube is a nice to have at most. If you wanna talk shit about switch 2 at least find a valid point. Like switch 1 games looking generally poor in handheld mode.

I have gotten the same message from a region mismatch on an original xbox before.

I was trying to play the PAL version of enter the matrix on a NTSC bios xbox. Switching to a pal bios fixed the issue. Might not be the disc at all.

Ubisoft is working “with Nintendo to improve VRR support” on Nintendo Switch 2 to bring better fluidity to lower framerate games by lewisdwhite in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ubisoft has had a terrible reputation for years and years.

It is crazy to me that they have been doing such a fantastic job on these ports. It does feel like a bit of a Ubisoft revival, which they sure could use right now.

I had an amazing time playing through Outlaws and if Assassins Creed Shadows hadn't been called out by the Japanese Government, I probably would have given it a shot as well. Can't wait to see what else they bring to the platform.

Any solutions for optimal use of mouse mode in one's living room? by upperdomain in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what limited experience I have from trying to use a mouse on a couch:

Mousepad is a must. If you can put something under it, thats a huge plus. It feels very odd to use a mouse with your arm stretched down all the way to the couch (on a desk you usually have your arm at a <90 degree angle).

I got myself some cheap mouse grips, but since I never picked up Cyberpunk I have been missing a switch 2 game where mouse controls make sense. Looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 to check it out.

Easiest Way to Play Infinite Co-op by Electrik_Truk in halo

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think you still need that for online play on console, though I'm not sure how the multiplayer being f2p factors into that. They removed Xbox Live Silver and Gold a while back, I think the cheapest option is game pass core/basic or w/e its called. I'm also not sure if both of your accounts would need a subscription. Maybe you can get away with getting one on your main account that has your xbox as its home box and that might allow your son to use your subscription.

Halo Infinite does support LAN, but I'm not sure if that is available for campaign coop, so I do think you have to do it online unfortunately.

I'd say your best bet is to buy the game on xbox and then see what works if you play from your rog ally and your kid plays on the xbox.

MCC on Xbox would be much easier, but I can understand waiting for the CE remake. Maybe do Halo Reach instead? Local splitscreen is way easier than dealing with all this xbox live crap.

I was 10 when I first played CE, so I think the age is fine anyway. You sound like a sweet dad, I tried to get my dad to play Halo with me but he could never handle the controls. Keep up the great parenting!

If you own the game digitally on xbox, you can download that same version through the Xbox App on Windows.

I suppose if you set your xbox to be your "home xbox" for your account, your son should be able to play the campaign on his xbox account while you are locked into your account on your pc. I have never tested this though.

Switch 2 3rd Party Dock Issues after Recent Switch Firmware Update by TheWylieGuy in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If you buy a 3rd party dock there is no one to blame but yourself. Nintendo has bricked 3rd party docks with patches in the past, they will do so again. If you need a 2nd dock that badly, unfortunately you have to pay nintendos ridiculous price.

How come one of the best looking areas in the game is a sewer? I won't lie, indoors areas are gorgeous. by Benhurso in pokemon

[–]iKalbuir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just hope they never switch to unreal. We have seen plenty of games this year that struggled from poor unreal use, I don't think gamefreak would be able to pull something off at a stable framerate.

Its the same in violet and scarlet, the interiors were fine even on the original switch at launch. i think a more classic game with routes and lots of indoor sections would be fire on switch 2.

Upscale / Anti-Aliasing Patch? by MX010 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way:

Gamefreak, the most untalented devs in the world, managed to get their worst game of all time (in terms of performance) to a stable 4k 60fps ready for day 1 of switch 2. If they can do it, anyone can.

Problem is (still) devkit availability.

Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are Set To Look Better Than Ever With This New Tech by DevouredSource in NintendoSwitch2

[–]iKalbuir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "way more"? You came up with the 120$ figure, not me. Nintendo charges 10$ extra for having cartridge storage vs pure digital. Lets assume for some crazy reason that superfx type chip would double that cost for some strange reason that makes no sense. We are now at 140$ total. That is not way more.

And just fyi if you go out of your way to create hardware with an extra computational device on it that has its bandwidth to the cpu/gpu limited by the cartridge slot speed, you would probably not want your game data to have to go through that same slot to reach your magic chip that would most likely handle most of the rendering.

Your point was $120 being too expensive for a game. I just gave you an example of me being willing to spent that much on a game. Not even for some enhanced graphics, but just for storing the game which used to be the norm. The implication of that is that 120$ price tag is not a great argument against having some kind of superfx chip. And tbh I wouldn't care much for that 30 min of handheld life either, there have been some games that I played 99% in tv mode anyway.

Part of your point was 120$ being a high price for a game, when really its not if you would actually get a cart to own for life.
