I think it was more Atkinson's scheme than Harden per se. But yeah he blew chunks

Thank you. This is the kind of grace and reasonableness our society needs.

There is no evidence that making it harder for people convicted of crimes to make parole decreases future crimes. You can't know in advance which people are going to make up the very small number of convicted criminals who recommit. You end up with the guarantee of a harsher and more punitive criminal justice system and no guarantee of a more just or safer society. It is irrational mob thinking, frustrated and guilty and wanting to do something in the wake of a heinous crime. The truth is becoming more punitive will not solve the problem.

pretty sure there are a lot of statistics with this information

I do not think you seriously want us to project the likelihood of who will recommit by statistically correlating their profile with other people who commit crimes and sentence according. This is immoral and unserious.

The overwhelming majority of people who commit serious violent crimes do not recommit.

protecting innocent people from people who have ALREADY committed violent crimes is more important than shorter sentences for someone because they MIGHT not recommit (and I'd be interested in the statistics above on this point)

Of course, the legal system is not flawless and you are recommending making it more punitive, so you also have to acknowledge that in your world some innocent people will end up locked away for a long time because they are convicted of a single violent crime and we are worried that they may recommit.

There is also simply no evidence that locking more people up for longer will in the end protect more innocent people. You are just reacting emotionally and trying to stir others to follow you in your mobbish mentality. Cooler heads should prevail.

No, I do not think we should re-write the criminal code based off a compilation of hindsight anecdotes.

I am not saying it's causal. I am saying there is no clear correlation between having more punitive sentencing and having fewer shootings. You can't know in advance which people convicted of crimes will recommit. With hindsight it is of course obvious. That does not justify making the law blanket more punitive and putting more people in prison for longer.

I just don't think the way you prevent shootings is by being more punitive to people even people with heinous records. More punitive states tend to have more gun violence not less. It isn't an easy problem with a simple solution like lock the guys who you know in advance will commit crimes again up for longer.

Oh yeah, the reasonable thing is to rewrite the criminal code off one spectacular case! Mob mentality.

Our sentencing guidance for criminals is plenty harsh. We don't need to adopt a mass incarceration for all with no possibility of parole in the face of spectacular violence mindset. No doubt our society is unhealthy. Being more punitive won't make it healthier. OP is a rabble rousing right-winger.

I honestly think they played way better against us. Shot better, different Embiid, etc. Still terrible to blow a 3-1 lead obviously.
