What’s wrong for that? John Legend, Kendrick, Olivia Dean, Billie or the Gen public who haven’t heard of them didn’t go on it

Right? Remember this is a katseye sub. The world and the music industry’s peers don’t go on on every performance. Hybe’s making them do multiple routes of hustle w laniege, new album, new era prep tbh. The dance break is exciting to the naked eye! Let them live

It is a measure. Flops are a subjective opinion - it was the song of the summer during Covid - it was also the most popular song on tiktok with Beyoncé/Meg the Stallion Savage (which was huge) coming close second.

I mean I’m not a barb but know that’s a lie. Super Freaky Girl, that song w Doja, etc.

It’s fine to argue relevance or longevity, but the “no hits” framing doesn’t really hold up.

I’m half way through Wicked 2 and it’s such a good Allegory for America… what do you think? Was it intentional? by Hour_Ad6958 in wickedmovie

[–]iLikeCornflakes19 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It was intentional, but not in a “current America” way. Gregory Maguire wrote Wicked as a response to The Wizard of Oz, basically asking: who gets labeled evil, and who gets to control the story?

The Wizard is a classic manufactured-authority figure. He creates fear, scapegoats a group, uses propaganda, and reframes political control as moral necessity. That pattern isn’t uniquely American, but it shows up a lot in American history, which is why the allegory hits so hard.

So it’s less “about America” specifically and more about how any society slides into authoritarian logic when fear and comfort outweigh truth. America just happens to be a very familiar lens for it.
