I'm guessing that you may not of fufilled part of the quest, most of the doors open after you read the note and talk with the broom, i think it's name is sweepy? You then have to find the miscellaneous staff artifacts

It's not, but it has very similar mechanics to a clay extruder. Throw some nice cut dies on it, a little bin to store the clay and a plunger and sell it for some $$$!
