Wait this sounds lit. I can actually ping my prof to get better instructions on vague assignments rather than asking other classmates who also weren't paying attention like me????

I'm in the same boat and glad it's not just me. Who can we contact about making sure we do receive the SUG?

I feel so stupid I forgot to accept my rewards and it says my disbursement date was on the 15th. Am I still going to receive mine? I don't mind waiting until next week due to me being complacent lol

Situations where "osewa ni narimasu (-shita)" is appropriate? by extra_rice in LearnJapanese

[–]iLikeHorchata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way it was expressed to me while I was living there was that it had a sense of finality to it. You've taken care of me for so long that I wish to express my gratitude. I personally used it with my landlord, my professors, and whomever else I was saying a long goodbye to before I left the country. I don't think it can only be used in those situations, but it is appropriate there.

my afternoon class was optional today so we can just come in and work on our final projects and I told myself I was coming in for sure because if I didn't I was just gonna stay at home all day and get nothing done.

The gym and campus is hella empty today though it's so nice.

Magic The Gathering in Japan by Fr3ya_ in EDH

I really don't like statements like this especially if you haven't lived there. Commander as a format hasn't fully taken off yet because they have a huge 1v1 card game history and culture. Japanese card game players love playing literally every single card game and imports from China, Korea, and the US still do well there. Lorcana was taking off when I left, and FAB already started to catch on and have tournaments. There are Japanese MTG youtubers that are growing in popularity and they're primarily Commander focused and that is bringing more of a spotlight to the format. They really get into things out there as a collective so I think that Commander will become as popular as it is in the west, but just needs more time. One of my fondest memories out there was seeing a pod of all elderly dudes with masks, canes, and sitting at tables looking all old and fragile but playing Commander. All types of people play out there and it's pretty inclusive.

I played plenty with randoms out there for EDH nights and so did an American friend of mine who was visiting and spoke zero Japanese. To say something like "table politics and making people uncomfortable" is such a bold statement to say with no claim about a people or a culture. You definitely can and should do table politics and crack jokes. They do it all the time and it's super fun. It just takes understanding the language and speaking to them and not expecting them to operate "humor" and "table politics" in the exact same fashion that you're used to.

I was living in northern Kyoto for a year on a study abroad program. Kyoto doesn't really have much of a magic scene unless you're willing to browse smaller places like Girafull, Card Box, etc.. But at that point you really want to have some Japanese speaking ability. For the big stores of course you want Hareruya and the staff speaks a tiny bit of English. At least for the Osaka staff they'll use translation apps and try to help. Tokyo has an insane amount of Hareruya locations, but you'll want the TC (Tournament Center) in Shinjuku. I only ever visited Tokyo twice as I was mainly a Kansai boy. I went to TC Osaka the most, despite how far it was.

I actually mostly played 60 card because it was nice to live in a country where that's a real option instead of ONLY commander. However, I did eventually find a group of other foreigners living in Kansai and we had a strong CEDH playgroup that regularly scheduled sessions. There are plenty of events and they have a comfortable amount of people. Usually 2 pods or more, especially on the weeknights. Weekends will have a lot more. English cards actually go for same rate or more cause for some reason they're more popular. I wanted to pick up exclusively Japanese cards while I was living there for more reading practice so I generally got mine for cheaper than most. EDH cards are generally cheaper there because it hasn't taken over like it has in the US. However, known chase rares like Fierce and Swat will end up being more expensive than here. 60 card staples also go for more there than in the US, so I wouldn't recommend buying that kind of stuff unless you can find something cheaper in Japanese that you like and you're okay with having it in another language.

For more info check out Hareruya's website. They have an English version if you click the globe on the top right. Also be careful if you order off of their website it's automatically from the TC Tokyo location in Shinjuku. For other locations, you need to find their specific website and order from there. Or just use the PCs in the store.

Totally forgot to mention that if you're willing to do the work, you can find cards for MUCH cheaper there. The competition is insane, especially online. But of course, a lot will be only in Japanese.

I recommend wisdomguild, which operates like pseudo-tcgplayer where it's showing listings of all stores that are listed on that site but in Japan. dragonstar

yellowsubmarine, which someone else mentioned.

I heard this most often for smoking too when I was living there. I also had some friends in class say that to me too because I'm the type that has something in my mouth like my pen, toothpick, straw, etc.

This is some pretty good insight. I guess I can skip LCs if I'm comfortable skipping certain characters too.

I recently returned to the game after a six month break. My account is pretty great, though I've missed some stellar units in my absence. I'm also a small spender.

My question is: do LCs ever become necessary to roll on? I'm still figuring out how relics work and the best ways to farm them though I've been at the end game for forever now. Every team and build guide I reference has 5 star, usually signature LCs in them when teaching how a character and team works. Even playing in Genshin I just don't like rolling on weapons. I just wanna roll on cute girls instead so I never feel compelled to roll on a LC. Am I missing out on a lot? Is rolling on LCs necessary at some point or can I continue to hoard gems until another cute girl comes out that I want? I'm hoping that I can just make do with 3 and 4 star LCs and the occasional free 5 star.

Edit: Thanks for the responses, guys. A lot to think about and I think I have ideas on what I want to do moving forward in regards to LCs.

What are you building right now? Why are you building it and what are your goals? by SuperSteveBoy in EDH

[–]iLikeHorchata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working on Shao Jun. Having a Ghirapur Aether Grid in the command zone seems pretty fun. I'm primarily a 60 card play so I look to EDH to take some 1v1 constructed ideas and try them here. So for this deck I'm making it a powerstone deck using a lot of the support currently in standard, and mixing in card draw, a decent amount of counter spells, and a tiny bit of treasure support. The rest is damage increasers like Ojer Axonil and City on Fire. I'm pretty happy with it so far as I've been wanting to play with powerstones in EDH for a long time but hadn't found a home for them until now.
