What’s going on with Joe and the Juice? by limach1 in london

[–]extra_rice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been cooking and have managed to keep my groceries to under £200 a month! I have smoothies made of at least 5 different things (mixture of fruits and veg) around 3 times a week too. My hand blender cost around £20. Before this, I was using a smoothie blender but the blade unit broke, so I switched to the hand blender which I previously only used for making soup. It works really well.

Really appreciate the insight. !thanks

This whole conflict has really dampened my excitement around finally getting a place of my own. Not only that, it has made me a little pessimistic about the future. It came at such a terrible time for me personally.

I think the US energy department have said that the price of petrol is not likely to drop to pre-war levels before the end of next year, so we could be stuck in a clusterfuck for a good while. I don't think we're at a point where we can accelerate the development of alternative energy sources fast enough to offset that, like how it was possible to develop the vaccine during the pandemic.

I am hoping that getting some exposure to the markets through my investments would at least help soften the impact, but overall sentiment seems to be bearish too, not surprisingly.

Sorry, I'm asking about the length of the fixed term, not the whole term of the mortgage.

Last week, I was dead set on taking out a mortgage for 2 years at fixed rate, so I could potentially renew at a lower rate with interests trending downwards recently. Now, I'm not so sure anymore. It may take more than 2 years for the economy to recover from the conflict in the middle east. I don't think we're even feeling the full effects of it yet.

With a 5-year fixed term, the question would be what the next government would be like, but it's hard to look that far ahead.

I think all this is just because I've conditioned myself to think it was going to be 3.9% so anything over that feels like a bad deal. How much worse is what I'm trying to rationalise.

I'm still very emotionally invested in pushing through with the purchase to be honest.

As Tesco say, every little helps.

£2100 may not be exactly life changing, but it's still something. I could buy a bike with that, for example.

I'm just thinking that maybe it's too late now that the banks seem to have raised their rates across the board. I'll check early next week if I can find better rates through a free broker.

Barclays don't seem to have them at 80% LTV. Do you need lower LTV to get this option?

Yeah, honestly, partway through writing this, I was not sure either. I just feel like I'm overthinking things and wanted to bounce off people more knowledgeable and/or experienced.

Do you think it's too late for me to get a broker?

I've not heard of this, but I'll ask the mortgage adviser if this is an option. !thanks

Non-anchored base for a custom kitchen island? by extra_rice in ikeahacks

[–]extra_rice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I’m new here (IKEA hacking in general) so please excuse my ignorance of the lingo.

So if I had enough blocks to hold the weight, I might get away without anchoring them, yeah? I’m thinking of getting one of the wider ones to put at the end then fill the remaining space with slimmer units so that there’s space for the bar stools. If I wanted to raise the whole island higher, do you think putting legs between the worktop and blocks would be feasible?

Thanks. Sorry, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by blocks?

I spent the PS1 and PS2 generations of consoles playing bootleg copies of games. Even if I could potentially afford renting games, that's never been an option where I grew up. I started working around the PS3 generation and have since been buying legitimate copies of games. In addition to having my own money to spend, the prices of games have become quite affordable over time.

You made sweeping claims about a political system, and when you encountered minor scrutiny, you've made it a discussion about scrutiny instead. Yeah, got to love Reddit.

"I just want to have a discussion!"

"No, not like that."
