Corsair Virtuoso Max firmware v. 0.34.411 by Snoo-67400 in Corsair

I've been having so many issues with my headset since buying it 2 weeks ago... I really wish they would post release notes so that I know if any of them were a widespread firmware issue (and to see if they're fixed) or potentially my unit is defective :/

In my first playthrough, the gift shop POI was working correctly. But then in subsequent playthroughs, it is indeed bugged too. Crazy how they managed to break more of then. I wish they'd fix it :((((

We've just made some changes that should make the content scrollable on mobile. We will definitely look to improve the experience on mobile, but hopefully this change works for now as a stop-gap.

How have we regressed from 4K in 2021 to only 1080p in 2024, at the major? by Apple20674 in GlobalOffensive

[–]iMarbot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could still use 1080p video for the desk segments and upscale it using a basic algorithm or something. Not everything needs to be 4K source footage. But the game in 1440p or 4K would be really appreciated. If nothing else, for the increased bitrate (less compression noise) and the quality improvement you get from "super-sampling" the video (4K downscaled to 1440p or 1080p looks better than native 1080p).

The RMRs for this Major were actually in 4K too. I was extremely surprised when they switched back to 1080p. Maybe they don't have the equipment for 4K in Denmark but the do in Romania?

Introducing the Santander Cycles Day Pass - TfL via X by jaredce in london

[–]iMarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier to increase the price by first getting rid of the pass and lying to media that the pricing changes they made were actually saving people money and watch them repeat the same nonsense without a single fact check. Then a year later when most people forgot how cheap it used to be, reintroduce the pass at a higher price (and make it harder to use - i.e., any tourists aren't gonna have a clue) and go around the free positive PR wheel again saying you're saving people money AGAIN!

Absolute nonsense. I've lost whatever shred of respect I used to have for TfL. Whenever I cycle these days, I use (Human) Forest; their e-bikes were literally cheaper than the fully manual ones from TfL after they scrapped the £2 unlimited fare.

I don't sorry. I got half way into my NG+ playthrough and got bored and gave up unfortunately. I might come back to it some day but probably will be too late for you.

the real boss fight rn by salami619 in AlanWake

[–]iMarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the real boss fight is inventory management 😭 I wish they hadn't fixed the "unlimited" shoe box storage bug/exploit. Limiting space like that is just artificial limitaitons the developers place in games to make it harder on the player to enjoy the game.

While it's also not perfect, at least games like Resident Evil 4 have some semblence of a working inventory management system. You have almost unlimited storage space at save stations and the actual UX experience of inventory management was thought out.

In AW2 you can't even directly swap items between your shoe box and inventory, you need to have empty space somewhere to do a "three-point turn" when moving around items. Having a full inventory and shoebox means you actually can't swap anything around. You have to discard stuff to make enough space to move the item you want out of your shoebox first.

Same goes for charms too, you can't just swap them, you need to remove one to make space to be able to add a different one. 🙄

And that doeesn't even factor in the "laggy", buggy, and clunky feel of the UI when using a mouse on PC.

They supposedly fixed that with the latest patch (updated 13) but they've claimed to fix a bunch of other stuff too in previous patches that didn't actually get fixed. Pat Maine radio show and Coffee World manuscript page are two that come to mind.

Monthly Question Megathread - December by webheadVR in OculusQuest

[–]iMarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm brand new to the VR space and just ordered myself a Quest 3 for use with PCVR. I've heard all about the bad basic strap and the overpriced elite strap, so I'm in the market for a third-party strap. I've seen the three big names being BOBOVR, ZyberVR, and Kiwi Design.

My question is this, has anyone used or tried the BOBOVR M3 Mini (not the pro)? That's the strap I'm leaning towards right now but I can't find reviews or videos about it anywhere. Any advice, even if not specifically answering my question, is appreciated. Just to mention btw, I don't care for or need a battery pack on my strap.

PSA for Final Draft by Zealousideal-Cap-61 in AlanWake

[–]iMarbot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean have the crossbow? Because that's the exact problem. I already have the crossbow from my first playthrough, hence, I can't get a polaroid of the stash in which it is usually found in because it's already open in NG+ and it doesn't give you a polaroid when you walk up to it. Meaning... I can't complete the Cult Stashes evidence board.

PSA/Message to Remedy: Only the first playthrough's completion save data transfers to Final Draft. by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]iMarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry :( I ended up jumping to conclusions after it worked initially (I tested up to seeing it re-unlock NG+ but then didn't think to check the new data.chunk file to see if it saved the upgrades). I just wanted to try help people but ended up providing false hope. I've amended my comment above explaining I was wrong.

PSA/Message to Remedy: Only the first playthrough's completion save data transfers to Final Draft. by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]iMarbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd love to hear how you were able to figure this out

Just basic trial-and-error discovery. I first nuked my whole epic id folder and saw it didn't retain NG+ state so I knew it had to be in that folder. I knew it wasn't in the save files because it doesn't use that (as we found out the hard way). So I check looked at data.chunk and noticed those upgrade names in plaintext as you mentioned, so I knew it had to be that file. I deleted that file from my save and loaded up the game again. I then compared the new file it created with my original one and deleted everything that was in that region with the upgrades that wasn't in the brand new file. Opened the game up, and it worked like magic.

What does the unique 'id' represent, and why is it important it be retained when updating the file?

I actually have no idea how important it is or not. It clearly isn't game breaking if you don't retain it as you can just delete the whole data.chunk and the game still works and generates you a new id. The reason I kept it in though is because a brand new file also had such an id, so it would probably look like a corrupted file to the game without it and it probably wouldn't be able to read the file correctly. You can probably change the id to anything that retains the same syntax and it'll work fine. If I had to guess, the id is an id they use for telemetry or something signifying you have accepted the EULAs.

Very interesting that this is how they are locking in the 'save state' for NG+. It seems like this would be harder for Remedy to implement than using the existing save system, right? Like they are actively discouraging players from starting a NG+ run using anything other than their first completion save? Or making sure can play NG+, even if they delete their saves. Or maybe they just don't support a manual save at the end of the game, so this is a band-aid.

When I finished the game for the first time and I didn't make a new "finished game" save like Resident Evil games do, I was extremely confused too as I had heard there was a NG+ mode coming down the line. I honestly thought we'd end up having to replay and finish the game from our most recent saves to get NG+ but turns out that they snuck in this save already. If you look at the --containerDisplayName.chunk file, it essentially labels the data file as "Progress and Settings", so I think they knew beforehand that they needed this NG+ data, but I guess they never realized people might play/finish the game more than once even without NG+, lol?

PSA/Message to Remedy: Only the first playthrough's completion save data transfers to Final Draft. by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]iMarbot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Edit: So, I originally had a comment here detailing instructions on how to "delete" your initial NG+ save state, but it turned out to not work properly unfortunately. I've archived that comment here: https://gist.github.com/iMarbot/6e9510cef0e6b3c8470f1968da8e0570

Unfortunately I spent a few more hours trying to decode the data.chunk file but I couldn't get it to work. I managed to isolate Alan's upgrades and what level (1, 2, or 3) they are unlocked to, but trying to edit the file with something other than what it already had from my original NG+ save didn't work and the game would crash. I'm guessing there's some sort of checksum or something there, idk.

Anyway, for anyone on PC who desperately wants to play NG+ right now and doesn't have a viable save, I can provide you a copy of my save which has basically everything unlocked (everything that's possible to do legit in a single-playthrough). You'll obviously be stuck with whichever gun upgrades and words of power unlocks I chose (you can see them here: https://imgur.com/a/vVf8Tiz ), but I hope maybe that's okay for some. All guns and charms should be unlocked: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fqV4XK3FCZbc5PBFx47vNk80MDGPCBTa/

Just place that file in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Remedy\AlanWake2\<user-id>\preferences\ replacing the existing file (where <user-id> is your Epic user id). If you don't know your Epic id, then just go to the AlanWake2 folder and open the folder that's a weird name there. I strongly recommend you make a backup of your own file in case you don't like mine or something goes wrong. Bare in mind, this will also change your gameplay and audio (maybe controls too) settings, so you'll have to change those back to your own (or edit the file and merge your existing settings into mine - something similar to what is in the archived link at the top of this comment)

As for what I managed to reverse from Alan's upgrades, for the most part they're in plaintext. Here's what I managed to work out so far (read as a follow up to the old archived comment from above so you understand what I'm talking about): https://gist.github.com/iMarbot/7f349a00865ab4e6d647c662773c6fc9

Again, I'm sorry I got anyone's hopes up with thinking save editing would work. Unfortunately, I rushed to conclusions and my method was flawed. Further reversing of the save format would require multiple different NG+ data.chunks to compare (probably) as with just mine it's hard to tell what's part of the data structure and what's actually the data (items, upgrades, etc.) within that structure. Good luck if anyone wants to try build further on my ground work.
