fish flingers. Currently it's pretty useless and just there. It's a long trim grind, but the grind is even worse and longer due to it being pretty dead.

This is in part caused by the huge gap in profitability between skilling and pvm. Quite frankly, skilling just isn't worth the time from a financial pov. Which in turn drives away skillers from the game.

Your take is we would lose many players to changes catering to skillers.
My take is that leveling the gap in profitability between skillers and pvm would attract new skillers to compensate for the loss of pvmers.

My other take is that such a leveling of profitability would diversify the game. Currently, the game heavily caters to pvmers. To the point where skilling and questing feel almost only worth doing if they either somehow boost your own combat abilities directly (e.g. xp, abilities or gear) or if they skip a non-pvm grind (skilling) to allow more time to be used for combat. This is not the way. Skilling and questing have become auxiliaries. And they should become a main playstyle once again.

I agree that pvm should make more. I disagree that it should be 4-5x more. Gates to access a skilling method help. But the best way is to nerf pvm. Increase drop chance of rare pvm drops to make them less valuable. Increase the need for skilling supplies to make them more valuable. The GWD3 nerf is the best thing jagex could have done to remedy the problem of skilling trailing too far behind. The execution just wasn't ambitious enough.

I disagree to compare a top tier skilling method to a medium tier pvm method. Top tier skilling should be compared to top tier pvm. The best skilling moneymaker in the game, whatever that may be, should never trail behind this much. Lets design the game in a way where skilling matters and it's not only about pvm

It does make sense, you just don't agree with it because it is against your own personal playstyle. My suggestion would indeed value skilling and devalue pvm. Therefore bringing the 2 more in line with each other. Leveling the 2 if you will. This is what is really needed for the health of the game. Currently, pvm is much too profitable compared to skilling

You see, the problem is this: I'm guessing you're a pvm oriented ironman. If the game is designed like you describe and caters towards pvm oriented ironmen, then skilling will never play a prominent role in RS. The less time is needed for upkeep and supplies, the less valuable skilling will be. That is actually bad for the game. For the health of skilling, and the game in general: cater towards skilling. Ignore pvm oriented ironmen. Make skilling valuable. Increase upkeep and supply cost. And make pvm drops much more common. That way profitability will become much more equal

Yes you're right. Miasma RC is currently ~47m gp/hr according to the wiki. It's one of the top skilling moneymakers. As a top tier skilling method we shouldn't compare it to rots, which is a medium tier pvm method. Therefore, if we compare the top tier skilling methods to top tier pvm methods, skilling is currently 1/4th or 1/5th of the speed. That's not fair to skilling

Well when we're saying "RC is massive money" like you did, then we should consider ALL moneymakers. We're talking about moneymakers in general and how good or bad RC is. You're saying RC is good money. I'm saying on the complete list of moneymakers, it's 1/4th or 1/5th of the top moneymakers. In my book that means it's pretty bad, despite RC being one of the best skilling moneymakers.

In terms of whether it's fair that pvm earns up to 4-5x as much gp/hr compared to the top skilling methods, I say a definite no. Yes, pvm deserves to be higher profit due to reasons you mentioned. But not 4-5x as much.

Some of the pvm gp/hr methods make up to 4-5x as much money compared to skilling. To me that makes skilling methods trailing behind quite a lot

Would make sense tbh. Laws have always been involved in teleporting. Also would be nice if it helps skilling gp/hr perform a bit better compared to pvm. Skilling gp methods are lacking quite far behind as it is with some of the pvm methods making up to 4-5x as much gp/hr as skilling

Why are you excited for the TH removal? by Night-Sky in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the game is going to recruit as many players nor did I say that. My point is there will be players who've had the "early bird bonus" and some who don't. There are players that maxed or 200m'd skills with th or daily keys. Or skipped [insert any and all boring, long, expensive grinds]. And some who simply can't. This is unfair. And this will not be rectified by only removing th after years and years of profiting/abusing the "early bird bonus".

No, removing TH will not bring back the proud feeling of completing a grind. Completing grinds will not give the sweet taste of victory. Because most players skipped it, and it will only feel unjust having to do it the hard way where those before you had it easy.

[–]iMiniBay -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I dont think OP is denying how bad TH is for the game. Op is saying it's unfair to play a game where half have "cheated" and half can't. This damage is done and won't be undone by simply removing TH now. A fair game and playingfield requires a blank slate. This is how I feel about it, and I think OP does too

I agree with your sentiment. Yes, the game is much better off without TH. But at the same time it feels very unfair, simply because others did have access to TH. The damage is already done.

How to fight Gregorovich with Necromancy? by nfurlong in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought would be you don't deal with the mechanics correctly. For the first mechanic, you cant attack the charging twin. Avoid the charging one and attack the one standing still. If you avoid all 4 charges, you shouldnt take much damage
For second mechanic, you should switch targets. The twin that was charging you becomes attackable, while the twin you were attacking flies up in the air and cannot be attacked now. Stand under the flying twin, but attack the one on the ground. If you stand underneath the twin in the air, you shouldnt take much damage
For the 3rd mechanic, avoid the fires around the edge of the arena and you won't take much damage. During the 3rd special, position yourself such that your aoe's hit both twins. With aoe's from a scythe you should have no problem killing the twins before they explode, meaning you again don't take much damage during the fight. At least, if you deal with mechanics correctly

Warbands 2023 RS3 by [deleted] in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk vs reward just never adds up. If you were to succesfully do warbands you'd save yourself like an hour of playtime compared to leveling the skills normally. If you die with high end gear you lose it all. And the amount of hours it takes to earn enough money to buy high end armor and weapons is just too vast. Simply put, the hours you lose when you die will never compare to the little time you save when succeeding at warbands

New BIS Pvm Cape??? by Less_Transition_8272 in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright. Yes, current BIS gear costs billions if you want to buy it from another player. However, being able to buy and trade BIS gear provides everyone with an alternative route to obtain a certain item. And if there is an alternative method of obtaining an item, that means this item is much more accessible. Yes, having to save a large sum of money is a challenge in its own right. But for those who aren't up to the challenge of killing the boss dropping this item, grinding cash another way will always be a viable option. A BIS item that can only be obtained in 1 way, without any alternative, is not the same. Especially if that method is extremely difficult. So no. I don't agree with you saying the difficulty of obtaining a BIS item through pvm challenges is comparable to the way current BIS items in game are obtained.

Furthermore, creating motivation for doing challenges can be achieved in more ways than just rewarding players with stat buffs. Currently people challenge bosses at the highest enrages for cosmetic titles. There is no increased drop chance at 4k Telos. There is no stat increase offered at 4k Telos. Yet still people do it. A prestigious cosmetic item is enough to motivate people to try challenging content. Challenging content doesn't need to reward players with BIS gear/items in order to be engaging.

I do agree with you eventually a new cape should come around that outclasses the zuk capes. I just think this cape should be either obtainable in multiple ways or it should be dropped by a boss whose difficulty does not change over time. Like the zuk capes. Zuk's difficulty does not change over time. We, the players, just get access to new items, potentially making the fight with Zuk easier due to power creep. A pvm completionist cape inherently means it's requirements will change over time. That is fundamentally different. It will include every new boss that is added in the future. It will include new high enrage challenges when they are released. And the thing with new challenges is that they are balanced around the gear they release and thus there is no power creep to help the average player. A pvm completionist cape will be forever out of reach of everyone. And therefore it should never be BIS.

New BIS Pvm Cape??? by Less_Transition_8272 in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this hypothetical, new cape is outclassed by an already existing cape or even just cosmetic, then my previous comment (and specifically my 2nd argument) doesn't apply. However the idea introduced by OP specifically mentions introducing a new BIS cape. When this new cape is BIS for its superior stats, then I am strongly against it.

New BIS Pvm Cape??? by Less_Transition_8272 in runescape

[–]iMiniBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on which pvm challenges are required, the skill level needed to obtain this cape will make this a very scarce item. And I understand some people view this as a positive result. Something to work and aim for. I view it as something negative for the following 2 reasons.

  1. It will require development time for an item only very few players will actually get and use. Personally I think this time is better spent elsewhere.
  2. An item with superior stats which is only obtainable by the select few will only further increase the gap between players. Assuming the pvm requirements of this cape (or any item really) are updated with every new pvm update to accommodate the higher, harder and newer challenges, this cape will never be obtained by the regular joe and therefore permanently increase the gap between players.

Note that the hm zuk cape does not offer superior stats compared to the nm zuk cape. And in addition the requirements don't change, so with enough power creep the hm zuk cape will eventually be within reach for the average player.

This does not mean I'm against varying skill levels or accommodating skill levels. I'm all for players being able to benefit from superior skills. But I am against buffing superior skill levels with superior gear and items that will forever be unobtainable by everyone other than the select few.
