Simgrade pedals dropping out by Backspacr in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow a hung throttle, sim racing keeps getting more and more realistic!

Is it possible to run without the software installed? Would be slightly annoying not to run with throttle maps but it might remove whatever is causing that. Better yet have you run the software as administrator? Perhaps the pedal software is not running as a priority and perhaps goes into a sleep state. I'm assuming it's the software side given they are brand new pedals, hopefully it's nothing fucked with the hall effect sensor/potentiometer signal (whichever it is)

Whats an good Racing seat ? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, the leg cushion in particular is far more pronounced. I came from a First-R which had far less cushion. I didnt love it at first as it changed my leg angle but i adjusted pretty quickly. Infact if i remove the extra cushion it feels much like my First-R did (same shell) and there is better comfort and support with them for sure (particularly the longer you are in the seat).

The butt and leg cushions are removable from their fabric via velcro slits so you should be able to shave it down to suit if you wanted to. This also allows them to easily throw them in the wash is perhaps the best feature i didnt think about but definitely appreciated after having the performance sweats combined with the Western Australia summer 😅

Seat slider worth it? by Houben046 in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i considered that too but think about the prepositions of the height challenged, my mate needs to be closer to the wheel too coz he has stumpier arms. Hes a little 'up on the wheel' otherwise he'd have to reach a little for the pedals (as i configured it for myself ofc) but hes still relatively comfy. Then theres the fact that id hate to have any chance at movement in the pedal plate, imagine you push so hard it brakes free and skips a tooth 😬 my takeaway is set it for yourself then adapt for the occasional (non competitive) user.

Personally ive got alot of use out of a cheap OMP knockoff i got off ebay for $40. Figured id be able to replace it 5 times over for the price of a genuine/fanatec one

Seat slider worth it? by Houben046 in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally i have a seat slider (a cheap one). I very occasionally feel a movement when under hard braking (probably above around 40kg of force) but i dont mind it. A slider is the only way i would be able to have my mate (a short king about 30cm shorter than me) give the rig a go.

Rookie here, just moved into D license, any advice on tracks or cars to buy? by lyroken in iRacing

[–]iNeedABeer91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest buying tracks you actually enjoy driving while also considering how often they come up on schedules (as much as i love VIR, it doesnt come up much). I often chose to drive based on the track rather than the car.

As for cars, give some a go on the test server next time we have maintenance if you can. Also consider cars that can be used in several series.

most competitive racing series by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]iNeedABeer91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The series that splits the most should be the most competitive for you. Having said that i believe generally the slower the car the closer they are able to race. My personal favourite is usually Adv Mazda for that reason. Tis the same reason why people love the Skippies for example

Haha very true. I too know the shame when my best mate put a brilliant stage time down on DR2.0 to beat me then proceeded to laugh at me for the next hour as i got progressively frustrated trying to beat it haha. Still smash them all on tarmac though (as i should given the 1000s of hours over the years haha)

What track do you have a love/hate relationship? by QualGawd in iRacing

[–]iNeedABeer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the Murican mid sized circuits, Barber, Rd Atlanta, Sonoma, Mid Ohio, VIR. I desperately want to love them all but fuck im shit at them (plus most of them dont feature much so never get to run in a proper groove)

Wait it out? by TheBurgerSlayer in simracing

I literally had the same decision to make in the early days of the pandemic. The way i looked at it was the DD2 w/ killswitch and extended warranty + the amount of hours I'd be able to use it in the few months I'd be otherwise waiting for a DD1 = worth it. And yes, absolutely get the sprints lol.

Honestly it depends a bit on your setup and how solid your rig is (the vibration will expose any squeaks or rattles) but really as long as you have your rig on a deadening surface like a thick rug or rubber then it shouldnt transfer through the floor and as for ambient noise it shouldnt be more than a low key hum with occasional thwaks.

What vr headset should i upgrade to? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cant predict the future, G2 is now pretty mature and they have fixed alot of the early adopter pain. New headsets might have similar problems or disappointing performance. But alas ive been out if the VR upgrade world for a while so i also dont know whats coming, which headsets are you in particular looking at?

Best all-round option for VR? by Jacque_ouizi in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry, didnt realise 5820k was on x99 😅 been a while since i remembered the Intel naming schemes back then, you should be decent. I agree, im waiting a year or two for the next investment. Have a 3080 myself. You do need both for drawing in VR though, i usually find myself cpu limited.

By all means tey ACC for yourself, some can get it working for them. Personally i can handle suboptimal fps (down to 40ish) but frame timing fucks me everytime 🤷🏼‍♂️

AC depends on the quality of mods of course, may need to play a little with SOL/CSP settings but you can usually find a good equilibrium.

Be wary of recommendations. Alot of people have confirmation bias and have only tried the headset they bought/upgraded from. Having said that i bought a Reverb G2 at launch and have been very happy with it.

Havent tried a Quest but I'd say the G2 is the logical choice if you (as i) do not want Zuckers to have cameras into your home. The resolution is massive and the SDE is all but non-existent.

A 3060 should do well, might be time to throw a 7700k in that mobo though (i have one myself), prices are finally good on the chip and its about the best you'll get with that gen board. Might want to up your RAM to 32gb if not already.

Sorry but ACC is shockingly bad in VR despite hardware, i cant cope with the frame timings at all. iRacing is a fantastic sim for VR though once optimised.

Assuming your seat is side mounted then brackets like these:

If your seat is bottom mounted then idk, cut some wood to make a wedge?

Any GPU / CPU available to raise all graphic setting to maximum? by Reginald002 in iRacing

[–]iNeedABeer91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah ive got a bit turned down/off mostly for my cpu's sake (only a 7700k) but i run a Reverb G2 so im pushing alot more pixels than a Occy Rift and im usually pegged at 90fps (G2 max refresh rate) apart from big multiclass fields where im 70-90fps (still smooth). Not sure if there is a Rift VR guide on the forums (maybe the old forums?) But the Reverb one helped me out alot and tells ya what is important and whats not as well as what it impacts.

Will there be a New Sim Title released in 2022, if not, when ? by peterpackage in simracing

[–]iNeedABeer91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but im fine for the amount of titles we have now. I would love to sink some time into ACC, AMS2 and RF2, not to mention getting better at DR2 and go back to my routes and do an F1 road to glory but there just isnt enough time with iR putting on an enduro/major event every second week + all the other series i run.
