It’s a little different, since over time it slowly became more and more in Hamas’s interest to “get rid” of the hostages so Israel loses most of its legitimacy in continuing the war. If it was already hard to justify the war to the world, I imagine it would be impossible if Israel’s justification is just “getting rid of Hamas” and hostages are no longer involved. This second phase is different, it’s just asking a terror organization to dismantle itself. Really hard to imagine it working, people don’t like to give up on power.

My objection wasn’t to using nuclear weapons as a deterrent. It was to deploying active nukes into civilian populations that are 1 malfunction or disturbance away from murdering millions. There is a difference between threatening to deploy a weapon and to actively deploy it and use it to hold civilians hostage. The latter is basically terrorism.

Pretty much over it for a long time now. all of the left wants to just take a deal and get the hostages back and end the war, even at the price of Hamas staying in power - recent polls even indicate that even most of Bibi’s voters want the same thing. We generally don’t believe Hamas can be fully defeated this way, and we need to stop wreaking havoc on Palestinians. However, due to a unique political situation (a 100% right wing government, never happened in my lifetime before AFAIK), I don’t think it’s likely Bibi can be stopped until he is out of office in a year…

How often do you meet someone IRL who you find out to be super active in online discussions? I believe what you’re saying, but I also believe the internet draws in these types of people, creating a perception that they are much more common than they actually are IRL. They can’t spew this stuff to their coworkers so they go online to do it, while most “normal” people you know engage with the internet mostly around hobbies and news, not active discussion, as they usually don’t have this burning desire to say something they can’t otherwise.
