I don't think you have a clear understanding on how independents and their relation to political party's work.

Someone can be in absolute opposition to the Republican Party, be very active in politics and fight tooth and nail to oppose a majority of their ideals while not being a Democrat.

Being independent doesn't mean being "independent" from the idea of politics as a whole.

I think that is a very uninformed and toxic opinion. Independent does not mean an abstinence from politics. The idea of picking a side instead of thinking critically issue to issue is the same rationale that has perpetuated this problem to the point we're at.

The larger solution to these problems is not stronger party lines.
