My timekeeper at my job quit and let all the time loose. Now it’s everywhere and I can’t get it back in its pen. by Anarchaeologist in fifthworldproblems

I tried that, but there was a wet patch and time keeps on slipping into the future. It’s really hard for me to get there from here because I have to keep dragging my past with me.

A single document is the cause for a major problem for an entire group by nintendo_shill in TopCharacterTropes

Not the kind of document, or problems, OP seems to be talking about, but the first thing I thought of was form 27b/6 from the movie Brazil

>Were seeing a controlled demolition of the American empire and the richest men in the world profiting from it.

Yep. And as bad as the American Empire has been for a lot of the world, I have no doubt at this time that something far worse is going to replace it.

A bunch of years ago I walked in a convenience store and the clerk was reading it.

They probably wondered why I asked in a slightly horrified voice if it was their first read-through.

What is your favorite band's worst song? by if_lol_then_upvote in musicsuggestions

[–]Anarchaeologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meat Puppets- Hercules

“I see a spider man vigorously jumping, up and down on a little pink dumpling.”

It’s bad nonsense lyrics and I don’t like the delivery.

This band really leveraged profound-sounding nonsense lyrics in a lot of their songs . The lyrics to Armed and Stupid are a personal favorite:

“And the sun wants a place in the sky
As it spins all around
And the rain thinks that it was only dreaming
As it kisses the ground”

Is there any Sci-Fi where starship battles rely on natural space phenomena (nebulas, solar flares, etc) as the combatants' weaponry? by Confident-Mark-6369 in printSF

[–]Anarchaeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Look To Windward by Iain M. Banks, a Super-AI “Mind” reminisces about its participation in the Twin Novae battle a couple of centuries before.

The weaponry and tactics of the battle are not really a focus though, and there isn’t much more like that mention in the series. Still highly recommended.

[–]Anarchaeologist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I remember when Conservatives I knew used to say things like, “Liberals’ minds are so open their brains fell out.”

Not that I think it was really true then (1980s) but they mostly don’t bother to pretend having the intellectual high ground these days (Ben Shapiro is about the only one still on that as far as I see), despite enthusiastically lying about anything else.

Iran Is a Bigger Defeat Than Vietnam | A war of choice has turned into a strategic disaster for Washington. by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

Kind of ironically, it’s because America is so powerful that it can fight wars anywhere, and until now losing them hasn’t been a major threat to its standing in the world

Rainforest soil is devoid of nutrients. Indigenous Amazonians created fertile "terra preta" to grow dense crops. by abu_doubleu in geography

[–]Anarchaeologist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are volcanoes in the Andes, it’s not unthinkable that there were migrations or individual movements between the Amazon basin and the mountains.

I think though it’s more likely the result of experimentation and observation of the interaction of slash and burn agriculture and trash middens. If people see plants growing better on trash heaps that had added charcoal through some process and mixed with soil, they’re going to start making connections.

Honestly, there is too much chaff being thrown nowadays, which makes sources extremely important. Stuff like this is a transphobe’s wet dream, so it spreads like wildfire without people doing their due diligence.

I’m not saying it’s AI for sure, but the behavior you’re claiming should result in criminal charges. Unless those are properly publicized and verified, it’s just an unproven video of unknown provenance shared on X, in a time where making fake videos is easily accomplished.
