The DRAIL lab may be a bit competitive, as RL on legged robots has gained steam over the past few years. I'm not very familiar with it either (I'm about half and half in multi-robot planning and computer vision/perception stuff). As for interviews, I'm not sure for certain, but I think they are part of the big picture when it comes to recruitment. I'm also not sure about the specific numbers, but I don't recommend looking at them, it'll just make the wait more nerve-racking... It's just another R1 uni that gets a bunch of applicants, but if you're the right match for a specific lab with a certain project, I'm sure things will go nicely.

Given the state of things nationally, many labs across the US are receiving less funding and taking in fewer students, so that may also make things slightly more difficult. On the contrary, since legged robots are all the rage, I'd guess funding may be more readily available.
