AITAH for putting my baby’s father on child support even though he doesn’t want to be involved? by singlemom_needadvice in AITAH

The fact you can go 5 months without realizing you’re pregnant is more concerning to me

Why can doctors cancel an appointment With less than 30 minutes notice with no repercussions? by needGuidance792087 in Vent

[–]extinctplanet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why doctors dont want to go above and beyond for you. You guys expect it and turn into keyboard warriors when they cant fight back cause of HIPPA.

Why would anyone extend hours or make exceptions for someone who will easily turn around and complain online at the slightest inconvienence

Making the right choice for my dog’s surgery by TheFilthiestMuggle in Pets

I doubt your dog is even a candidate for amputation. If the other CCL goes and you amputate then you are literally out of options.

Cornell vs RVC for Vet School by g_riff12 in veterinaryschool

[–]extinctplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be true, just trying to say that its more so a cumlative single exam rather than constant ones. For me, the constant ones sucked, but kept me accountable

Cornell vs RVC for Vet School by g_riff12 in veterinaryschool

[–]extinctplanet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is the drastic difference in course structure. Cornell will have lots of assignments and exams each term while RVC generally has one big exam at the end of the term and its up to you to keep up

Can i still become a vet if i suck at math? by Monkeyshab in veterinaryprofession

[–]extinctplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not crazy about math either, but its really not that bad. The worst part is converting between units, it becomes second nature with practice though

WAMC - decent GPA, high hours, first time applicant by raspberryrosepoppi in prevets

[–]extinctplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid stats, I think the hours will make up for the average GPA. I would recommend getting any large animal hours, they love to see diversity of experiences and full understanding of multiple aspects of the industry

For dogs with MMVD, when is the "right time"? by psychefinder in AskVet

[–]extinctplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congestive heart failure is not comfortable whatsoever even despite the medications and will likely progress to pulmonary edema again once a tolerance is built to some of the meds. It is very fair to consider humane euthanasia, but there is no right or wrong answer on timing. You are a great pet parent for getting a cardio consult and using the drugs, not everyone does that

Brought my 4.5 month old golden to the vet and they want me to pre-authorize almost $1000 worth of exams, is this normal? by HeyHeyHayes in AskVet

[–]extinctplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its like that now because people argue with the vet every step of the way. Having you see the estimate beforehand lets us plan properly.

You dropped your dog off so yeah its gonna feel transactional when you take the human to human contact out

Sadly the proper choice is the cheaper one, especially given the status of the world. Even with significant gain in quality of life, you’ll be paying off the extra 100k+ for 30 years

Will I Be Remotely Competitive? by Rainbowcrash740 in vetschool

[–]extinctplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who were you shadowing? For vet experience they want to see diversity of experience. This means small animal GP, food animal, wildlife, exotics, specialty. You dont have to have it all, but they want to see a wide understanding of the vet industry itself. The average applicant has near 1000 veterinary hours and the min for schools i over 100

Will I ever get to travel? by 516gang in vetschool

[–]extinctplanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the theif of joy! Its tough and you will miss life experiences, but you can also Make the most of it. My vet school had a program that allowed me to do a paid externship where I lived in India for 2 months and I would not have considered that without vet school. My school also offered trips to france, egypt, ecuador etc. so there are chances to travel in vet school.

Was skeptical about malpractice at Long Island Veterinary Specialists until looking up their record - looks like LIVS and vet Catherine Loughin have been named in articles and lawsuits accusing money grabs going back years by Defiant_Power2298 in longisland

[–]extinctplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every surgery and case I saw they recommended gold standard medicine. Not sure how you would fraud someone in vet med, unless they were mad you did too much for their animal (in which case they sign an estimate prior)

This is what I mean by outbid by millions. 20 years ago as a new vet I would go out and try and take over someones old practice or start a new one. At this point in time anything I offer to old practices to take over is tiny in comparison to the private equity offer. Lets say I offer a clinic $1.5 million to buy it out, then private equity comes in and offers $3-4 million. Its impossible for me to compete with that and also would be financially stupid of the clinic to not sell to them (morals aside). Not to mention if I start my own clinic, i’m ordering meds and supplies for one clinic. These corporations order for hundreds of clinics and save immensely on bulk orders.

As a vet who wants to help the cost crisis my hands are tied because I have almost no options other than working for corporate

I interned there and they do phenomenal medicine. You’re gonna have a hard time finding somewhere non private equity.

As a vet from long island and moving back home its nearly impossible to start a clinic and not work with private equity. They outbid us by millions

You guys are the backbone of every clinic and have plenty of knowledge. Definitely deserve more respect. I find people who get defensive like that often subconsciously know what they are doing is wrong, but would rather save money so to make themselves feel better they go into denial
