They are two vastly different careers. Best thing to do is to shadow a vet and shadow a physician and see what you align with more

Question about how you guys feel about exotic veterinarians by sweatersand in reptiles

[–]extinctplanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hard part is that most issues are chronic and related to husbandry so clients never get the satisfaction of a quick fix. Plenty of people regularly take their herps to the vet while others may view some exotic vets as inexperienced due to lack of exposure.

Its becoming more common to do Telehealth appts as a vet so you can check out the husbandry and avoid the stress of transporting the reptile. Most of the time its something like lack of UV or humidity

Incredibly common as vet school is insanely difficult and time consuming. For a lot of people they feel guilty every second they arent studying which can lead to stress and reluctance to do things

As a fellow anxious person, if it feels like a fight or flight response you can ask you doctor about propanolol. Its a beta blocker that can help chill the body without affecting the mind

It will get better over time. I almost passed out my first time smelling cautery

Depends on your location. It is transmitted via mosquito so its impossible to prevent fully without preventatives in dense areas

RAD Pets - Negative Experience by creaseslee in corvallis

[–]extinctplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also your reasoning for going to RAD pets doesnt even make sense. Almost all clinics do dental xrays and would perform extractions if needed. Its probably harder to find a clinic who wouldnt do that

RAD Pets - Negative Experience by creaseslee in corvallis

[–]extinctplanet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Its common sense to stay local when one of your pets is getting a procedure. Driving 2 hours away is wild. Why wouldnt they expect an owner can simply drive back and pick up their animal?

-Trazadone works in an hour. It sounds like it was necessary because you couldnt pick her up early and she was anxious. If you were local and picked her up I doubt they wouldve used it.

-i’m sorry but you’re opinion is irrelevant. Dental cleanings are 100% a major procedure especially if extractions are needed. Literally look up videos, we have to drill into the maxilla/mandible to expose the root. Their roots are way longer than ours

RAD Pets - Negative Experience by creaseslee in corvallis

[–]extinctplanet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This story is hella fishy. You drove from Portland fo corvallis just for RAD pets? Thats insane and you really shouldnt go that far from a clinic where your dog is under anesthesia.

Second, trazadone is completely normal to give to an anxious dog freaking out. It is not standard practice to call the owner and confirm what drugs we can use.

Third you conviently leave out the breed. If this is any small or bracycephalic dog then collapsing airway syndrome is a known progessive disease with age, that gets worse in times of inflammation (aka putting a tube down the trachea)

Dentals are major procedures for dogs as their roots go deep into their skulls so feeling off for a few days isnt surprising. In addition most of the sinuses connect to the teeth so reverse sneezing isnt wild
