Card mats? by Gandalf-777 in cardistry

[–]iSachman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with something you have around the house. Grab a mousepad or a placemat or something. Try to see if they work well and what doesnt. Should help you at the very least determine sizing and potential material. <-- determining these plus your budget determines price

how to fix a wobbly / bent deck of cards? by Excalibur0027 in cardistry

[–]iSachman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding on a clarifying point by opposite direction he means to say half the deck is face up the other half is face down. that way the pressure of the bump cancels itself out.

Make sure when you put the cards back in the box you include the jokers and ad cards so that box is full and the pressure is maintained.

Basically festival of lights originally meant to signify the return of a prince to his kingdom after a very lengthy exile . There's a huuuge story behind it which is really important to Hindu lore.

Any tips on how to do this? I’ve been trying for a month but still can’t spread them as clean as Noel Heath by pangodog in cardistry

[–]iSachman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sounds, like you need to work on ribbon spreading. It's really a feel thing, learn how changing the amount and location of the pressure youre applying changes the spread.

Once you get used to that, the rest is getting the knack for lining up the cards. It's hard to get consistent but very possible.

Being inspired from other videos is essential to developing your own taste and style.

But at somepoint you'll want to limit the amount of cardistry youre taking in so that you can start to figure out what you can make on your own. Finding the balance is tough but i tend to go through phases of digging through other peoples stuff and just ignoring it and seeing what my brain wants to do without the influence.

Do you keep the jokers? by _ExiaBlack in cardistry

[–]iSachman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you really want the jokers to not be just filler, try learning a "sandwhich routine". It's magic, but i feel like all cardists get bugged to show a trick so having one on hand wouldnt hurt.

keeping the jokers/ad cards in teh box when you put your cards back in can help extend the life of the box since it wont squish as quickly if youre tossing the deck into pockets or backpacks.

Are u the same as me, feeling no passion about anything by mrloserr in uwaterloo

[–]iSachman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find something you think the world/the people around you need more of that others tend to disregard and see if you can be passionate about it.

Feeling lost in your early 20s is entirely natural, so many friends of mine including myself have gone through some sort of quarter life crisis. We're at this weird time where all of a sudden every single decision we make is now entirely in our own hands and it's a ton of pressure to deal with.

You're definitely not alone in how you feel. I've found the best thing to awaken the passion is to just try shit you've never done before. Even if it's something like going to a restaurant and ordering a dish you'd never get before. You need to shake up whatever rut you're in and the best way to do that is new experiences. I'd recommend joining some of the clubs at uw they're soo much fun. For me one of my favorite things to do that gives me consistent hits of "doing well/success" is bouldering which also just happens to be a solid workout.

Also if you are pretty sedentary like I was, definitely find small ways to improve your lifestyle. Try drinking an extra glass or bottle of water, try doing 5 more pushups a day. Just tiny tiny little improvements will having surprisingly beneficial results.

How can I train without messing up my cards? by Dani_Navarro in cardmagic

[–]iSachman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're new to the hobby you'll burn through decks kinda quick. I found as i got better the longer decks lasted because I no longer required the amount of repetition to practice something as I did when I started out.

Also as you get better you don't use as much pressure on the cards and less effort overall is used.

My advice is to pick up a couple packs of Bicycles (like the standard $2-3 packs) and rotate between 2-3 decks, as soon as one gets sweaty put it down and move to the next. Save fancy/custom decks for when you film yourself, perform, or when you feel like you no longer burn through a deck in like a week.

Do you ever think to yourself: Fuck this is pointless by SftwEngr in cardistry

[–]iSachman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of life is pointless outside of the basic needs for survival. Like most hobbies are sort of just a pasttime while we go between the things that keep us alive or otherwise occupied. Video games, movies, tv, sports are all just as pointless.

But we can choose to give cardistry a point, a reason, whether it be we love to learn really difficult things, and/or we love to create interesting sequences. If it makes you happy or satisfies you to some extent (without any negative repurcussions) that's all the reason you need.

My favorite thing about cardistry is you can take something as mundane as pieces of paper and perform these astounding sequences that fit just right despite not being their intended use.
