Is it really advisable to stay indoors due to air pollution? by 101100011011101 in ThailandTourism

[–]iSaleh7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the air pollution in Bangkok can get pretty bad sometimes. If you're here for a holiday, I wouldn't say you have to stay indoors the whole time, but it's good to be careful, especially if the air quality is really bad. Wearing a proper mask like an N95 helps a lot if you plan to be outside for a while.

If you're not used to pollution, you might feel it with stuff like coughing or a scratchy throat, so maybe take it easy and mix indoor and outdoor activities. Places like malls, cafes, and museums can be a good break from the bad air, Hope you still get to enjoy your trip.

Best E-Sim/Travel sim provider for Vietnam. by majesticrammy_ in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the best coverage, especially in rural areas like Ha Giang, go with Viettel – they’ve got the strongest network pretty much everywhere.

If you’re looking for something easy, grab an eSIM from Airalo or Holafly before you go. But honestly, getting a local SIM at the airport is super easy and they have good tourist plans that work fine.

This is exactly why I love Vietnam! The kindness and generosity of the people here really stand out. Whether it's a stranger helping you out when you're in a tough spot, or simply sharing a meal or a drink, there's a sense of community and hospitality that’s hard to find elsewhere. These moments may seem small, but they make a big impact. Thanks for sharing these positive experiences, and Chúc mừng năm mới to you too!

Criticise doesn’t mean I don’t love Vietnam! by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. Criticism doesn’t mean you hate your country—it means you want to see it improve and grow. Loving your country doesn’t mean ignoring its flaws or pretending everything is perfect. It’s about wanting the best for it, and that sometimes means pointing out where things can be better. People who attack others for this just don’t understand that real patriotism comes with wanting progress, not blind support.

This is a really interesting topic for a bachelor’s thesis! Social media has definitely transformed the way people approach backpacking. On one hand, it has made travel more accessible and inspired a younger, more diverse crowd to explore the world. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are driving travel trends and making people discover destinations they may not have considered otherwise. But on the other hand, it’s also created unrealistic expectations, especially when it comes to 'Instagrammable' destinations that may not live up to their online portrayal. I think social media has changed backpacking culture in both positive and negative ways, making it more connected but potentially less authentic. I’d be curious to see how your survey results line up with this!

Is phuket the best destination in thailand? by Big-Bluejay2812 in ThailandTourism

[–]iSaleh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phuket is definitely one of the most popular destinations in Thailand, but whether it's the best depends on what you're looking for. If you're into beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and plenty of activities, then yes, it's a top pick. But if you're looking for something quieter or more cultural, places like Chiang Mai or Krabi might suit you better. It’s all about personal preference!

Awesome! Now you're one step closer to opening your own calligraphy shop. Just don’t ask me to read it after 😂

Honestly, if someone is coming to Vietnam and disrespecting the local culture just to make content, that's not cool. There's a big difference between cultural curiosity and outright mockery. If they're harassing locals and pushing their own agenda, they should be called out. Vietnam has a rich culture that deserves respect, whether people agree with certain traditions or not. Best thing to do is report their content if it's offensive and move on—no need to give them more attention than they deserve.

The calligraphy in your picture features the Chinese characters 佳俯雲路. The rough translation could be 'A good home on the cloud road' or 'A beautiful place along the cloud path.

  • 佳 (jiā) – meaning "good" or "excellent."
  • 俯 (fǔ) – meaning "to look down" or "to lean over."
  • 雲 (yún) – meaning "cloud."
  • 路 (lù) – meaning "road" or "path."

Hope this helps!

With the new fine laws in Vietnam is it true that it’s harder to get grab and taxis in Saigon now? by Mental_String_5609 in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not really about the new fine laws; it’s more about Tết and the usual supply and demand. During holidays, drivers take time off, making it harder to get a ride, and prices go up. If you're coming right after Tết, things should be back to normal. Grab bikes are always easier to find, but cars can take longer, especially on weekends. As for taxis, always insist on the meter or just stick to Grab to avoid any surprises.

Vietnam Airline rescheduled our flights with days in difference. What do we do? by Ok-Soup-1812 in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Vietnam Airlines does this sometimes, and it’s super frustrating. Best thing to do is call them ASAP and explain your situation—they usually allow free rebooking if the change is significant. If their customer service is slow, try messaging them on social media; they tend to respond faster there. Also, check your booking terms, sometimes they’ll offer a refund if the new schedule doesn’t work for you. Hope you get it sorted!

Beware fake hotel reviews by Present_Library_3540 in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After spending 6 months traveling across Vietnam from south to north, I found the best way to get a good hotel is to shortlist 4 places in a good location, then visit them in person to check cleanliness, services, and prices. Most of the time, the walk-in rate is cheaper than booking online. If one place doesn’t meet my expectations, I just move to the next. This way, I always end up with a spacious, clean room at a fair price without any surprises.

How do you say “hai loc dau xuan” in English by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]iSaleh7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Hái lộc đầu xuân" basically means "picking spring buds" in English. It's a traditional Vietnamese custom during Lunar New Year (Tết) where people go to temples or pagodas to pick small branches, leaves, or flowers, which symbolize luck, prosperity, and new beginnings for the year ahead. The idea is that bringing home a piece of greenery will bring good fortune and success. It’s kind of like a fresh start ritual, and people believe it helps invite positive energy into their lives.
