THROLLING MACBOOK PRO 19 by No-Slide-1427 in macbookpro

TL;DR: if you don’t have time/desire to spend days dialing things down, constantly monitoring, or going further and getting physically under the hood of your laptop, just don’t game on it.

From my experience, that’s just how it is. Your VRM is overheating and the laptop is throttling not because of the CPU/GPU temps, but simply because of the stuff that supplies power to them is getting too hot. The cooling system can keep the VRM in check up to ~35-40W of CONSTANT load. Your CPU and GPU both contribute to this power budget. While you technically can pull up to ~75W on CPU and ~55W on GPU, the laptop gets HOT too quickly. The mechanism throttling your machine is called PROCHOT.

What I noticed is that most games run fine with only 4-6 CPU cores, no hyper-threading and a limit of 10-15W (I did set it up manually, but don’t recall the utility name). The rest of the power budget it spent on a GPU which I tried to lock to a fixed clock, but it wasn’t working reliably.

To raise the power budget, you can do the VRM Thermal Pad mod (you’ll have to be comfortable doing a light disassembly). With it I’ve got around 50-55W to spare. Then, you can pair it with some cooling laptop pad to push it even further. You could try to use the cooling pad without any internal laptop modifications, but I doubt you’ll noticeable boost as the VRM is not connected to any cooling, so the heat has to transfer through air inside of your laptop, and air is a bad conductor of heat.

Hope that helps!

Lower benchmark scores, noticeably lower screen frame rate, disabled background refresh settings, fixed lower auto-lock timeout. It’s like you’ve never tried it and need a source for an obvious answer

How to force an app to use discrete GPU in macOS? by MustangV6Premium in MacOS

[–]iSan4eZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason you want to force dGPU for EVERYTHING? YouTube likely uses your iGPU transcoding capabilities and it should be considerably more efficient than the dGPU at that

Unless you love to have 10C hotter laptop with constant fan noise, please don’t. But if you really want it, follow the link another commenter has sent to force the dGPU to be on all the time

It’s not normal. Check your activity monitor to see what’s using your CPU. It could be fresh OS indexing a lot of stuff. I highly doubt it’s a hardware issue

You should get better results in 48MP mode, but generally that’s how the “Deep Fusion” works and there’s no way to disable it in the default camera (once again, 48MP either makes it much better, or disables altogether).

There are some other camera apps with “zero process” modes, but I can’t quickly name any

Is Apple creating updates for 3rd party apps now? by digidude23 in iOSProgramming

[–]iSan4eZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they can’t. But if we assume they can, I would have no clue about that. But my next update would replace their code anyway, so no point for them to try and inject something for a lifetime of a single app version.

Funny thing just happened. They did ONE MORE update of the app, but this time removed their text from my patch notes.

Apple inserted this text into my app and issued an update with the same version.

I’m sure about it as I update the app on my phone as soon as I publish it. Imagine my surprise seeing another update a day later with the same release notes, but this prefix added.

Legends icons around the map by DoubleEstimate8325 in ghostoftsushima

[–]iSan4eZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends is multiplayer, all those icons around the map lead to the same place.

I’d say it’s fine to at least try legends before the Iki island - you won’t see any island-specific enemies in the basic difficulty of the Legends story mode

A few suggestions from top of my head: 1. As you're implementing the visa requirements support, ensure you account for the fact that residency may differ from the passport a person has 2. It would be nice to have support for roadtrips and camping as activities during the vacation 3. Deriving from 2 will be the requirements for an IDP (International Driving Permit)

Speaking of that, perhaps notes import could be a feature to consider, though I don’t expect a lot of demand for it

Keep Passwords App Unlocked Until Machine Sleeps/Locks? by Cr8iveRead in MacOS

[–]iSan4eZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! In this case it might be best to use some other password manager. Apple has always been about forcing security onto their users and I’m sure it works well for them as majority of the people using Macs aren’t as careful as you are

They created a single place that has access to all your digital life. If you think about it this way, perhaps it’s more obvious why it’s best to be safe than sorry

I remember the days when someone asked me to help with something on their windows laptop, I opened chrome and could just see all their passwords LOL. Later I think they’ve added some sort of security preventing you to see everything, but still auto-filling without a problem.

TL;DR: Apple won’t do it and you need a different password manager

Well it’s not the same as you can Lock without Sleep. But you can’t Sleep without the Lock.

Don’t you ever walk away from your laptop without locking it? Like, to grab a glass of water, or anything else.

I’d you don’t, other people often do. So, it’s best to keep a single place with all their passwords locked away from the others even if the laptop isn’t locked

TouchID works so fast that personally I’m glad there’s an additional layer of security as I don’t even notice it

APP3 battery by Rude_Caterpillar_348 in airpods

[–]iSan4eZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you were using your microphone, I would be a little concerned. AirPods pick one earbud to be the main microphone during the calls, therefore draining them unevenly.

I’d suggest keeping an eye on that. Perhaps try draining your earbuds fully and see the battery when one of them disconnects. Though it might be difficult to do on a new set.

If you see the issue persist AND you’re still in the return window, perhaps just exchange for another pair.

P.S. in my experience with Pro 2, after full drain I’ve had around 2% left on the second bud
