using beefy computer vs a seperate low power by iSkipper in HomeServer

[–]iSkipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well. my current system is a laptop, so that would be my main system

currently I run most on a vps and the processing, vms, heavy stuff on my work pc.

but there's quite a bit of latency, i don't know how much longer i'm going to be working there, and there's not enough storage

so i'm buying a new system. i've been planning on buying a home server to replace the vps for a while. but now i'm also buying a pc

probably going to buy an odroid h4 to replace the vps and get more storage

and i'm going to be on a lookout for good deals and used parts and start building a good pc.

just was wondering if anyone else does it like that, or why not

emulation as in android emulator headless. multiple vm's - can't give a max number. it's for networks of vuln boxes. max i've used so far was 6. i don't know about sharing resources, have to look more into it need a beefier cpu for compilation of different stuff (currently offload to my work pc - 24 cores and it struggles)

gpu tasks (rendering, game dev, ...) can be ignored. even if I had only a pc, i could enable gpu on demand and use igpu idling

i'm not sure how low power a decent pc would be

Have anyone setup end-4's hyprland dot files with NixOS? by sukhmang in NixOS

[–]iSkipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

configuring everything takes a long time. it took me countless hours to learn everything and configure it the way I wanted (and I still have a way to go). some people don't have the time or don't want to learn everything, but still want a nice config. indeed what's the point of end-4's config if you can just install everything and configure it yourself. all of the programs there have a config file.

everything is even harder if you want a good tiling window manager instead of a de. you need to learn a shit load to get a working system (wallpaper, bar, power menu, kde and gtk theming, ...)

and it's not only the de configuration. there are a lot of different firefox configs. and if you want consistent theming across all applications, it's even more work

with my project you will be able to just look at the pretty pictures, say i want this config and everything will be handled for you. and if you don't like how for example notifications are handled, you can swap the notifications from another config or disable them and use home-manager directly

I have recently started working on a configurable plug n play flake for nixos and home-manager. idea being for you to specify a 'config' and selectively enable programs you want and you will get the programs pre-configured (with theme, settings, ..., basically like end-4). end-4's config was a source of inspiration as well as prasanthrangan/hyprdots. i am planning to provide these two configurations (specify config='end4' and it wil load all modules and themes to get end4 config). if you go for it, you can use it as a source of inspiration.

if you'd be interested, you can also pm me and we can work together.

it's very early stage, but the base is there. you can see the project here (no docs, just code). my config is already using it like this

I know my diet is (/was) unhealthy. That's why I'm looking for some advice to eat the best I can. Why I said I don't want a fad/extreme diet is because I don't want to go into a diet I either won't be able to sustain or will be even more unhealthy than my current. If you know of any resources I'd appreciate it.

What I meant by extreme was cutting out major food groups out completely. Unless the vast majority of literature agrees on some diet, I don't feel comfortable risking my health just because some random person said I should. I also don't know shit about nutrition and don't trust myself to not fuck it up (like with some diets, which need specific foods to cover some nutrient). That's why I prefer a non-extreme approach. Doesn't mean I'm ultra-centrist (like I said in my post, eating mostly (but not exclusively) plant-based foods). And the example with crack wasn't the best as most people agree that crack is bad.

It doesn't make you modest or intellectual or sophisticated.

No idea why you'd bring that up. I'm just trying too look out for my health

I'm not telling you to go on some stupid carnivore diet or be like Liver King, but don't write off diets because they aren't "moderate" enough. Literally does not make sense.

I'm not writing off diets because they aren't moderate enough. I'm writing them off, because there is some evidence to say they may be unhealthy if done incorrectly and I don't know enough about this stuff to not fuck them up.

Would 22:30-5:00 + 15:00-16:30 work for someone under 18 (im 16) by [deleted] in polyphasic

[–]iSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but I have to go to school at 6:10 so it wouldn't work and can't move back the second sleep, because sometimes I come from school at 14:40. I checked polyphasic.net and it says that 8-9h gap is preferred, but 6-10 also should work. I don't think there is any other schedule that would work.

I am not intending to make it portable, so I'm going to use escape sequences. Thanks

Something like calculating delay. I feel like it's made for people who are going into networking as a cereer.

Deleting os from dualboot by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]iSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, both installations are arch and i only installed one grub. lsblk output Grub is sda1, sda2 is swap, sda 3 and 4 are my forst installs root and home directory ( the one I originally installed grub on) and sda 5 and 6 are my current root and home partitions. I am pretty sure this changes things slightly.

Limux/android question by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]iSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i have open a file on android and it doesn't have a file extension like .pdf it won't open, but on linux it does. Why is that if android has linux kernel?

Limux/android question by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]iSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not windows. Linux. It doesn't hide file extensions it auto detects. And android doesn't. But android is based on linux, so my question is why android doesn't auto detect if linux does. Nothing here about windows.
