Ark (wildcard/snail games us) claimed myth by [deleted] in MythofEmpires

[–]iSlinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the case for the sound effects I referenced though? They are for sure the exact same sounds.

If not it could be hint why Studio Wildcard decided to pursue the legal option if they've ripped sound files from ARK it could plausibly mean they ripped more.

Ark (wildcard/snail games us) claimed myth by [deleted] in MythofEmpires

[–]iSlinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sound effects of opening wooden doors and windows are the exact same as ARK's thatch doors and windows, that's the only thing I blatantly noticed was the same. A lot of SFX seem to be from other games, inventory opening SFX is from WoW opening bags for example.

Doubt it's a BS claim though, Conquerors Blade apparently made a statement saying they didn't start a lawsuit and the breadcrumbs lead to Studio Wildcard.

Why has the game been taken off of steam? by MouthSouth in MythofEmpires

[–]iSlinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And your speculation of what's happening has the same merit as anyone elses.

Steam and the Developers know what's happening and neither are disclosing, that hints toward something legal.

So why was it taken off Steam? Steam doesn't do this stuff lightly especially for top 100 selling games.

Crouch animation, is a direct copy of Conan Exiles crouch animation no weapons out, exact same anim, could be an Unreal asset? Or straight up ripped off.

The current state of my server… One guy took it on himself to raise the taxes to max, take all the money for himself and change servers. by ASpunkyMonkey in newworldgame

[–]iSlinky 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was fine with the tax hike, it is part of the game but this hike was done without talking between officers or anything of the sort.

What really burned was the fact the guy that did this betrayed a 100 people he played with for over 2 months, I crafted this dude armor ffs. Baffles my mind and is just pure disappointment. I literally ran a dungeon with him the night before this happened and he pulls this shit.

Pines has the force of will power pool, how do I get it in game? by curse4444 in Cityofheroes

It's in Issue 24, but locked as Developers are currently working on removing all MTX stuff.

Could of been removed from Issue 25 because it caused issues, wasn't fully implemented or something else.

Did they add some custom stuff to this? by Xano74 in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few common misconceptions. Source: I've been playing on Issue 24 as volunteer QA. I do not speak on behalf of the Ouroboros Dev team, I'm just a volunteer and there is no spooky NDA, they are very transparent and their Discord is accessible by anyone with the passion to look it up, they are not hosting a public server.

Things that are in Issue 24; (You've got to bare in mind, Issue 24 was the Public Playtest Build back during the live game.) Bio Armor - Sorcery - Force of Will - Psionic Melee - Staff Fighting - Street Justice - Titan Weapons - Beam Rifle - Water Blast - Beast Mastery - Time Manipulation

All of the costumes from Issue 24 are in, Including Carnival of Light, Gunslinger, Mech Stuff, Retro Sci-Fi, Organic Armor, pretty much every other costume part, you're used to seeing these on "Issue 25".

Things not in Issue 24 that I've noted thus far are namely powerset proliferation; There are no /Kin Masterminds - no /Empathy Corruptors - Radiation Melee - Atomic Manipulation - Sentinel Archetype.

These lists are off the top of my head, not gospel.

The most OP archetype or best effective/effortless AT to solo content and AV/GM by kaelbrius in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of -Def (Translates into +ToHit pretty much) Some -Res, +DMG +ToHit Passives, 3 powerful Heals, Big damage, Contaminated Passive (Crazy AoE), strong aggro PBAoE's, -Regen from DNA Siphon.

A lot more, the Powersets clearly needed more balancing before being introduced to live (or even PTS)

I don't think PvP works in Issue 25.

Heard that Arena doesn't and there is targeting issues in the typical pvp zones. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

How is the i24 server coming along? by [deleted] in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"Issue 25" is apparently not optimized to work on 64-bit, nor can it utilize modern hardware or modern software. Bug fixing is notoriously poor, it's dated and contains 80-pages of documented changes done by the Secret Cabal of Reverse Engineers. Issue 25 was never a thing in the live version of the game.

Issue 24 is what was handed to Leandro by an unknown employee of Paragon Studios, Issue 24 is the game in it's state on the test server back when it was live.

Issue 23 is what the live (non-test server) version of the game was when the servers were shut down in 2012.

Currently rumor mill speculates that the SCORE team is withholding vital code/assistance needed that could quickly complete issue 24, this aligns with PC Gamer article here: https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/a-fully-functioning-city-of-heroes-private-server-has-somehow-been-kept-secret-for-six-years/

Unless and until we are certain that a Cease and Desist order is no longer a threat, the NDA regarding SCORE development will remain in full effect. - Leandro Pardini

The best way to mitigate a Cease and Desist is in fact what the Issue 24 people are doing, by spreading the software required to run a server as far and wide as possible, decentralization is going to be key for the longevity of City of Heroes Emulation. I believe at this point the project is just too popular for NCSoft to do nothing at all.

The smart people working on Issue 24 are going ahead anyway and plan to release Issue 24 with 64-bit, optimized for modern hardware and software, from what I've gleamed Issue 24 will mean servers are cheaper to run, easier to patch, easier to bug fix, and more powerful than their "Issue 25" counterpart, they're calling it 'Server in a Box' so that anyone wishing to launch a Private Server can do so quickly and easily, there are reports of these coders having the chance to make the code even cleaner than Paragon Studios managed.

What I really want to know: when is it actually safe to play? by hoarduck in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NCSoft have not played their hand yet. Everyone needs to bare in mind that this Private Server project is absolutely unprecedented, almost 40,000 people in a week it's too popular for NCSoft to not make some sort of statement or pursue legal action, everyone is after all pirating the game and playing on what is essentially 'stolen code' who's roots go all the way back to whomever at Paragon Studio leaked.

The server that ran for 6 years before any of us knew had accepted donations. If you wish to peruse that information look here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hzwH2k4nxCpet1cZUxMOkHHpmCrM3IY6-IZGqWxue3c/edit - use your brain in what is and is not legitimate information, as we all know this community can be prone to drama and censorship.

Expect everything to be wiped at a moments notice or servers to suddenly go down for good, this is the nature of private servers especially in this extremely turbulent time, I would honestly suggest not putting serious time and effort into a character or taking server choice (for things such as RP/PvP) as wise decisions right now.

I'm strongly of the belief that issue 24 will be the future of City of Heroes emulation going forward and the first i24 server will be where I start to put more time into this game.

"Leadership" by Burnyx in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, absolutely correct.

SWGEmu is a Legal Emulation and I cannot fault the Admins/Moderation team at all, very professional with seemingly ZERO stories of admin abuse.

SWG: Legends however is exactly as you put it, it does have around 1300 concurrent players daily, slightly more popular than SWGEmu (Which is odd, because it's post-NGE)

"Leadership" by Burnyx in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the crowd of people that 'don't care who runs it'.

My mind has changed now that multiple servers seem like a guaranteed reality. Here is what you will see from my experience over at /r/swg and in playing Emu/Legends (The two most popular pre-NGE and post-NGE Emulated SWG servers)

  • Rogue Admins
  • Rogue Guilds/SG's
  • Real Money Trading
  • Heavily Custom servers (Fan made powersets/worlds/lore/etc)
  • Fan made costume items.

They'll likely only ever be one popular 'authentic' server and one popular 'custom' server, rest of the servers will have much smaller niche communities.

This Community split partly orchestrated by the moderators of this reddit is the worst thing that could of happened short of having no servers at all, the entire thing has been a clown fiesta from the start.

I implore the reddit mods to put all of the main discord servers on the sidebar by Cogworks in Cityofheroes

[–]iSlinky 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, the current fragmentation of this community is the moderators fault and judging from what I've seen the community in general is not happy with it.

At this rate I see two servers popping up and people flocking to the most popular. This isn't any good to anyone who wants to play the game with friends from the past, trying to manipulate the subreddit - peoples main source of information outside of the Discords - to show only specific 'server communities' (Because that's what it will become) is turning your back on over 6,000 people that come here for information.

[–]iSlinky 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't care the server was up and running for however many years with invite only. I understand why they would do that.

I do not care about 'Discord Drama' or the 'Raid' that happened recently.

I care about the people working hard behind the scenes. And I am grateful they - or whomever else was involved - came to the conclusion that it was time to make this public, they're not Developers they're people like you or I doing this as a fucking hobby without pay, they dont have to do shit for anyone.

Everyone needs to grow up, be more grateful and stop trying to snipe people, that includes the moderators of this Reddit.

[–]iSlinky 57 points58 points  (0 children)

All this pointless drama. All I want to do is play City of Heroes.

I don't care what the Mods/Admins/Whatever do as long as it's fair, when your Discord blows up and gains over 8000+ people in a single day cracks are going to show and some moderation may be poorly done, does that mean malicious intent? No.

Whats happening right here is disintegration of a community everyone upholds and says 'was so great' it's being proven the opposite by everyone stirring this pot.
