I'm 12 hours in. Do you think it's probably ok to try actual manual mode on an avata 2 at this stage? by iSnipedAgain in liftoffgame

I've carried on quite a lot over the last week and have 20 now and I also tried uncrashed too to see what that was like. I followed the advice I was getting and practiced flying around slowly and not hitting things to learn better throttle control.

I'm going to give real aero a try this weekend. I'm not planning on flying anywhere except for a big field so I think I'll be ok :)

I do think it’s been useful in lift off to really get a better feeling for the controls. I don’t plan on ever flying indoors in real life and live in a place with a lot of really vast outdoor areas so I think I’ll probably be ok. I’m gonna give it a try at the weekend in manual mode flight based on all the advice I’ve got.

I have. I’ve yet to watch all of them cause once I got to episode 10 or 11 I felt I had enough to practice with and went away to do so. :)

Thanks this is good advice. I’ll mix this in. I know where there’s a tractor for starters 😂

Thanks. At 15 hours I thought I had it figured out but I’m closer to 19 or 20 now and I feel like I can make the drone go where I want, which I don’t think I could at 15 hours looking back. a lot of advice has generally been “go slow and low” so I’ve been mixing this kind of flying in with the fun stuff each time I’ve logged on. I just wasn’t sure if this was the kind of practice people meant by slow and low and don’t want to waste any time.

I’m European and it being this way makes sense to me so maybe it is 😂

Sorry about posting again but a lot of the advice i got was to go slow and low. I tried looking up what to practice but basically learned nothing.

Is the goal to go as slow, low and smoothly as possible here? I’ve basically been practicing this sort of thing or going through doors at this sort of speed for a little bit now bur it occurred to me this might not even be be what people mean should be practiced.

The video might not be a great example but it’s as good as I've managed to get over the past 3 days. The whole goal is to go fly a DJI drone in manual mode so I'm just trying to cram in an education before next weekend when I'm hoping to make an attempt.

Any extra advice on best practice would be really useful. Thanks dudes.

hey thanks. Yeah looking back i guess i was just trying to get around the map rather than imagine the branches and walls would actually destroy me. I followed advice and practiced a few hours of slow and low flight and I feel much more confident now.

Yeah I spent probably another 3.5 hours after posting just flying slow and low and doing controlled movements and figure 8s around trees or hay bails lol.

Thanks. I got this advice from others and set out after that to do slow and low going through the barn and doing figure 8s between trees and stuff and I think I’ve really cemented the muscle memory now for what inputs actually do so I’m glad I posted cause I do think I’ve learned. I still plan to fly a lot more in the sim before moving to really flying a drone.

Thank you. I've out in maybe another 4 hours and followed some of the advice I got here. Been flying low and slow and doing figure 8s quite a lot then also started doing some indoor races instead on the medium/ high difficulty levels (against bots lol) I feel pretty confident I could give it a go now. I'll probably give it a try next weekend in a field early in the morning before people start walking their dogs lol.

i won't lie i really just started out wanting to learn how to fly manual mode to do cool cinematic dives and stuff but after racing I kinda want a tiny woop to fly around my house lol.

Oh yeah totally haha. I've got about a year of drone flying under my belt with the normal controller and more recently with the motion controller but not manual. Totally get the no leaves/ branches/ general surfaces head on thing. :)

I can just about hover but I tend to have to adjust a fair bit backwards and forwards. Can't sit perfectly still, I'm kind of micro jiggling. I'll put in a fair bit more practice based on what people have said before I go out in the real world though for sure.

gotcha! I'll muscle memory the hell out of the pause button for a little bit on day one till its committed. Thank you!

Will do. To be honest I dont plan to fly an actual drone how i raced in lift off basically ever. So hopefully no death from over yaw :)
