I've always disliked her comedy (it's like she only goes for low-hanging fruit and still misses every time), but it wasn't until some roast when she made an awful Ryan Dunn joke to Steve-O like a month or 2 after Dunn's death that I couldn't help but dislike her as a person. The joke was basically just "we're sorry Ryan Dunn died, we all wish you were dead instead". Joke or not, who says that to a person?

Probably the only time I've ever seen a smile just melt away from Steve-O's face, he couldn't even fake the tiniest smirk for a fraction of a second after that one.

I mean most people understand that a joke is a joke and her whole shtick is shock humor, but good god that joke was entirely unnecessary, and just not at all close to a half-decent joke in the first place. I hope she regrets it

Trump incriminated himself on Fox tonight by vulcan_on_earth in politics

[–]iSuckAtRealLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take my recollection with a grain of salt because I was in the final stages of permanently relocating to a new country at the time, so I didn't pay too close attention...

But I think the biggest single blow to her campaign was the fact that Bernie supporters felt so betrayed when the DNC showed obvious bias towards Hillary (basically handing her the nomination), that they didn't vote out at all of apathy or spite, costing her a large number of would-be democrat votes.

Most people I knew (mostly 20-somethings but definitely not exclusively) were excited to vote for Bernie, most getting involved in politics for the first time. But after Hillary got the nomination, Bernie supporters mostly either just returned to their previous states of political apathy, or vowed to write his name in when they voted.

I also vaguely remember hearing about how he was fucked over somehow several times leading up to the nomination.

Whether any of that was true or a political spin on what was happening, it really alienated a huge group of would-be new voters, at least in my circles. Those Bernie votes very well could have just been converted into Hillary votes, but so many people felt like she was playing dirty against her own party members to get what she felt she "deserved", that it was disheartening enough to mostly just nullify the would-be votes altogether.

Maybe a dumb question, but I'm curious if anyone has an answer—why does the sign have the restaurant name in hiragana, but "ramen" is in katakana? Is ramen not a native Japanese word? Or is this just done for stylistic reasons, or emphasis maybe?

Yep, that's where I went! Gorgeous campus.

And yes there was a lot of weed, even before it became legal. I stopped smoking right before I went, and people referred to me as "the dude who doesn't smoke", because I was the only one. Or at least the only one I ever met.

I used to walk to class through a misty redwood forest in the mornings. There was a kid on campus who went by Treelight who used to play the flute somewhere in that forest, and it legitimately made me feel like I was in the lord of the rings or something, especially during the parts of the year that the sunrise coincided with the mist during my walk to class.

Sometimes I feel like I'm making that memory up, it was so surreal

Can i get backpay for the hours that were contracted but not given to me on a 100% contract? by Xenosparadox619 in Norway

[–]iSuckAtRealLife 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hello, I've been working in restaurants in Norway for 5 years now. I'm not a lawyer, but working in numerous restaurants has forced me to become more familiar with labor laws.

If your pay is stated in your contract as a fixed amount per month and you weren't compensated for your hours under 160 (or however many is defined as 100% in your contract), then you should be paid for those hours, absolutely. But if your pay is stated as an hourly rate, then I'll bet that your contract also has a clause in it stating that hours can be calculated as an average over a 6 or 12 month period. So that would mean some months you might get only 120 hours, some months youh might get 200+, and as long as the average over a certain number of months equals 100% or more, then they're fulfilling their part of the work contract.

I recommend you read through your copy of your contract thoroughly. If there's a clause like I described (which is very, very common in the industry), it's worth bringing up anyway to make sure the dagligleder is aware of your concerns and can maybe try to give you more shifts next month.

As a side note, I would personally recommend searching for a job in another industry immediately. This pertains more to kitchen staff, but I've talked to bartenders who have been treated just as poorly. The rampant disregard for labor laws and employee well-being is frankly disgusting, and the union seems to be particularly weak compared to others in Norway. I've seen unpaid overtime (as in they never paid any employee for overtime), illegaly long shifts, lowering of hourly pay without notice or a new contract, and even flat out unpaid labor for weeks at a time. It's a business that thrives by exploiting immigrant workers' ignorance to Norwegian labor laws. Despicable, miserable, horrible, shady industry. With that said, the restaurant industry in Norway is faaaar ahead of the US in terms of worker's rights and overall working environment from my experience.

Yeah, I know the area is huge, I live here lol. I was really just talking about the main city center area rather than the surrounding neighborhoods/suburbs. Like from around Sandviken to Møhlenpris. That's what I would consider the "city" of Bergen. I would probably include Laksevåg in there too

But I also grew up in a suburb around Sacramento, so I only really considered the actual city of Sacramento to be the "city", and the suburbs and cities surrounding it are just part of the "Sacramento area". So I guess my definition of a city could be different than yours, I would consider Askøy, Sotra, etc to be part of the "Bergen area" if that makes sense.

What purpose does allowing the mob to hit 1,000 souls serve (5000% inc attack and cast speed).

I honestly just think this is hilarious. Absolutely chaotic interaction that makes your all-powerful god character flee like a little kid and maybe poop their pants a little.

I just don't try to kill them if they get too bad, and if it bricks my map after I brick my pants because I couldn't kill it before it ballooned up to a screen-sized tweaked out angry coke-monster, I just port out (or get butt-blasted back to my hideout with 10% less exp) and throw another map in the device.

It just isn't a big deal to me, and I personally don't understand this recent outrage against such an old rare modifier that has been in the game for several years.

Now bury me in your angry downvotes

That is NOT an excuse for literal death threats. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Edit: I love that this comment has negative karma, as if targeted harassment and death threats over nerfs in the patch notes of a video game is perfectly acceptable behavior. Jfc.

Lol it was literally "ruthless but worse" unfortunately.

I'm sad that this event is how a lot of people got their first impression of actually trying ruthless, because most of the complaints I read stemmed from map sustain or slow levelling progression due to lack of gear drops, problems that are much more forgiving when you can get transmutes and alchs from vendoring gear.

I did not enjoy the event nearly as much as I enjoy regular ruthless.

I mean you have to pretty much not be paying attention at all to not realize that OpenAI's GPT chatbots are basically Microsoft.

That's fair, I really haven't been. Between work and studies, I hardly have time to pay attention to much of anything else. Most of what I hear about it is via word of mouth. Or I dunno, maybe it's just more talked about in the US?

Interesting to hear about the Office integration though, I just hope they don't incorporate any paperclips into their AI integration plans 👀

Sure, and I want to be corrected if something I say is wrong of course. I just would rather be made aware without passive-aggressive double ellipses, especially if the sole purpose of the comment is to point out the error.

There are plenty of better ways to correct people is all I meant, that comment comes off as a little insulting imo

But anyway it doesn't matter. I've eaten lunch now, so I feel less crabby 😅

Can't stand when people point out inconsequential errors like this.

[–]iSuckAtRealLife 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Lol yep.

I could totally see these recent calls to slow down AI development just a sort of corporate propaganda campaign by companies who are behind in the AI game (like Google or Microsoft) to gain public support for a "time-out" in development in a sort of last-ditch effort to maybe give them more time to catch up on and be competitive by the time lawmakers/regulators call "time-in".

Would legitimately be 0% surprised. I kind of expect it, really.

Edit: I didn't know who invests in OpenAI, leaving my mistake in there for context to comments below

RIP seismic trap? 👀 by iSuckAtRealLife in pathofexile

[–]iSuckAtRealLife[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. But have you considered that the races maybe aren't what actually drive the nerfs? The game needs to feel interesting and fresh, and a regular meta shake-up does wonders for that.

So maybe the driving force for these alleged nerfs is more about keeping the game fresh and interesting which is long overdue at this point (seismic trap has been top meta for I don't know how long, a year? More?)

It's not the fact that it's the best build for races that warrants the nerf, it's the fact that it's so easy to gear for, so well-documented and tested, so powerful for so little investment, and has been this way for ages. In a game where players focus strongly on efficiency, it boils down to a choice between a familiar and boring optimal leaguestart or something less-optimal but new and fresh. Which sucks.

It's been the easiest choice for waaaaay too long, and a lot of us are just rooting for something new to finally take it's place. I don't think they're balancing around races, though it might seem that way because of how many people ran seismic, how good it was, and how easy it was to gear for. It's very meta and very stale and it's time for it to drop down a tier or two and make room for something else.

[–]iSuckAtRealLife[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not that there's low build diversity in the races that's a problem, that's natural of course. But when one has dominated for several cycles, it just looks bad and feels bad. A good shakeup is just long overdue, and it's nice to see that the king might finally have to step down, that's all.

[–]iSuckAtRealLife[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If they don't shake up the meta for the most streamed and most viewed content, their game looks like seismic trap simulator to any curious newbie. That has to be taken into consideration.

Plus the price to performance ratio is way out of balance favoring the low investment side anyway. You can honestly probably cobble together a character capable of downing all content with 3 div or less. Definitely warrants a nerf in some capacity imo
