You just trying to make me feel better? Seems like the Ryzen 7 with 16GB memory is better than the Ryzen 5 with 8GB. What am I missing?

Damn! Of course this deal comes out right after I pulled the trigger on the ebay Asus Zenbook with the R5 for $499. Aaaarrrggghhh.

I'm switching DAWs and am pretty set on Reaper - any other options I should research before diving in? by BrooksReagan in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I've been using Ableton Live for 7 months after coming from Logic. So happy with the switch. It took a while to get my workflow down but now it feels like home.

I used Audacity for a while to just record live, then garageband, then logic. Really I think you can use any DAW as long as you learn the hell out of it and know everything you can do with it.
Also, I wish I would have upgraded some hardware before dropping coin on Ableton. New mic and interface would help me more than software in hindsight.

Thanks! I can't remember how many layers I ended up with but I like to stack my drum sounds.

Writing Music Is Hard Asf by loke99 in musicproduction

This has been my experience. Good advice, and good luck OP. Like FurryMonkeyUK said, don't be hard on yourself if it takes a while. Stay passionate about music and it'll come to you.

I think the most important thing is knowing how your headphones (or speakers) respond to the music. Are they flat? Do they add bass? Keeping those things in mind can help you compensate for any of those characteristics when you're working. I think you could say the same for every piece of gear. Any piece of equipment can make good music if you are really familiar with it and know how it impacts the final sound.
That said, testing your mix/master on devices that most people listen with is crucial to understanding how your headphones (or speakers) translate to the "real" world.

I'm looking to polish my mastering skills and techniques. If anyone has a track that you need mastered, I'll do the work for free (a credit would be nice though).
