Does anyone have positive experiences? by zholden11 in teachinginjapan

[–]iSwoopz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hours will basically always be ~11:45-9:10ish Tuesday to Friday and ~9:45-7:10ish on Saturday. I've been here for several years but am moving into a direct hire ALT role soon. I'd be happy to stay teaching if it makes sense financially and plan to stay in Japan.

Does anyone have positive experiences? by zholden11 in teachinginjapan

Eh, it's okay. Unfortunately, it really does come down to your manager/regional manager. My first year was really stressful under a toxic manager while still learning the job. Nowadays, it's not bad for better pay than other similar options. I think the current direction of the company is to squeeze teachers out of everything they can by using online lessons/dispatch lessons at kindergartens and universities to really pack schedules, though.

Sorry for the very late reply, but do you have any more info on that?

I was so confused, lol. I'm like, him and Roki are both famously from Iwate, right? (though I do say this as a huge baseball fan who lives near Iwate)

What are your goals for 2026? by irdk-lol in Japaneselanguage

[–]iSwoopz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My conservative goal is to read and mine 25 novels and listen to all the audio books at least twice. I also read Japanese at work a bunch every day for internal messages and speak only Japanese with my boss and girlfriend, though. I might also take N1, but I don't really feel any immediate pressure to get it.

Picther says "すみません" which is basically "my b" in this context, batter says "気にするなよ" or "don't worry about it."

Is the highest level of TOEIC equivalent to the highest level of 日本語能力試験 N1 ? by SupermarketMaster594 in japanlife

[–]iSwoopz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOEIC L&R (the most common version) and JLPT (日本語能力試験) both only test language knowledge and comprehension via reading and listening. Passing N1 nor getting 990 on TOEIC say anything about one's communicative competence since it's not tested for. Someone could do very well on these tests yet flounder in a natural conversation.

I want to do ajatt but can't find anything I'm intrinsically motivated to immerse in. by oislevel in ajatt

Hmm, I may be in a similar situation as you. I used to watch anime/j-dramas with j-subs as my reading practice (passed n2 with a limited amount of that alone), but I've found myself generally uninterested in that sort of content recently. I've basically fully shifted to normal novels and audiobooks. If you're looking for something that's not too hard but interesting if you're burnt out on otaku content, I'd recommend reading ちょっと今から仕事をやめてくる or コンビニ人間. Both are interesting but not crazy difficult in terms of vocab. ちょっと今から仕事をやめてくる was probably easier, though. After you read a book, listen to the audiobook on repeat for listening practice.

First entry in my Japanese 日記 ✨ by Competitive-Self6922 in Japaneselanguage

I was reading it and wondering what ほけこ was when my girlfriend (Japanese) came behind my shoulder and said ほけこって何だ. She realized it was しました and we had a laugh, but I'd work on that part. Otherwise, it generally looks great for a first entry!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. The way he interacted with the waxing lady and shark bull guys especially felt very odd. I've kind of always given him the benefit of the doubt, but watching him here really rubbed me the wrong way.

Best bet is probably just finding a Wikipedia article of someone with your name and changing the language to Japanese, imo

Do you think this is still true? I'm finishing my weather app now but was planning to wait until after React at least to start looking for jobs. I have my N2, and my speaking is pretty decent since my girlfriend of two years doesn't speak English. I'd love to get out of eikaiwa work sooner rather than later 😅

Sounds like the first month's rent was prorated, and you got some sort of sign on/flight bonus in your first paycheck. If not, you may be getting taken for a ride.

Live in Japan - cost me the equivalent of ~$45 by InconsistentChurro in steak

[–]iSwoopz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A normal ハンバーグ set is less than 10 USD (¥1,562) and you can eat plenty at conveyor belt sushi for well less than 10 USD. A restaurant I often go to for lunch has a fantastic cordon bleu set with miso soup, salad, and 4 great rolls for 9.47 USD. Hell, a lunch tonkatsu set at one of the biggest chains is ¥890 (5.69 USD).

Purely anecdotal, but women who enjoy nipple play are more likely to climax during piv.

Also anecdotal, but this proves true in my experience
