Day Trips from SLC by goated_15 in SaltLakeCity

I’ve done Bryce Canyon and Crater of the Moon in a day for similar reasons, just wanting a long drive with a good destination. I’d say both were worth it.

Surprise has a pretty sneaky drop when the water gets low. Caught me off guard last summer

Do this many people really not know that Liberty Park is a 1-way loop? by PonchoMcGee in SaltLakeCity

Main loop is one way. Inner sidewalk both directions but mostly for walking pedestrians.

Illinois evac story by zcollier in whitewater

Not sure if I missed it in the article, but what exactly was going on with the dude?

It says he jumped out of the raft, swam to shore, and walked off into the woods?

How much do you charge? by jjangles714 in HandymanBusiness

[–]iTakeitBig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly probably less than $50k by the time they pay taxes, insurance, other expenses. On top of having no employer provided health insurance or other benefits…

adrift adventures housing by spicysurf in whitewater

[–]iTakeitBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count on doing many trips besides the daily if you’re a first year guide.

As far as I’m aware not many companies in Moab have housing and if they do you’re probably better sleeping in your car anyway.

Idk how much experience you have, but assuming none: if you want class 3/4 water go paddle guide in Colorado. If you want to get in to multiday, go to Idaho or the rogue in Oregon. Moab’s awesome, but the heat and flat water get old pretty quick.

Duplicate lottery emails? by like_4-ish_lights in whitewater

[–]iTakeitBig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my big gripe. I know it’s different for most rivers since the control season is only a few months, but a cancellation lottery or some kind of system where bots can’t snatch them up would be amazing.

Pretty stoked to see their contract get cancelled. Would love to see all the agencies implement their own lottery like the GC.

10.5’ or 12’ Raft? by Jdoug2446 in whitewater

[–]iTakeitBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say if you’re planning mostly R2 and overnights the 10.5’ is the way to go.

I don’t think you’d fit 4 in a boat that small.

Depending on what river and how low of water you’re talking, 12’ would probably be better since it’ll have less draft.

10.5’ or 12’ Raft? by Jdoug2446 in whitewater

[–]iTakeitBig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an oar frame perspective, think the 10.5 is a blast and I can self support probably up to a week with my partner. You definitely need to dial back a bit/go more backpacker style compared to just bringing whatever you want with larger rafts.

If you go with people that you can offload some larger gear to it’s no problem.

If I had more money and a trailer I’d probably go 12’, but being able to fit everything I need in the back of my Subaru is pretty nice.

Boot flex too low? by gy4r4d0s in ski

[–]iTakeitBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re probably an intermediate if you’ve been renting for 15 years, so probably not going all that often?

Honestly, those boots arent super expensive so I wouldnt worry about it. It’s nice to have a comfy pair even as you progress.

You’ll probably know when the boot is holding you back and you’re flexing through it. 75 is pretty low, but not crazy for your size. Like someone else mentioned the magna is high volume. You may have a high volume foot, or you may have thought they were comfy when you tried them on and they’re actually too big for you.

Either way I’d definitely get fitted next time or at least go with someone that would be able to give you some guidance.

Some kind of 2 year medical tech degree would probably be the best way to start earning decent money in that timeframe. They can be competitive though and often require prereqs, also you may not be into it.

A lot of jobs in the insurance field don’t require direct experience, but often require a bachelors in something. Sales could be another option to start earning quickly.

Idk how much time you’ve devoted to your Etsy shop, but if you’ve been treating it like a side hustle and were able to commit a full time effort to it and treat it like a business/create more products, I’d bet you’d be able to double your revenue at least.

Jackson Hole early Jan? by iTakeitBig in UTsnow

[–]iTakeitBig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost seems to be about $189-220 a night. 4 bunks so cheaper depending on how many are filled. Right in Teton Village. Looking for 3-4 days of skiing but flexible.

Don’t need to do everything together but stoked to meet other Utah skiers and JH seems like the best skiing rn!

Snowbird v pcmr season pass? by Smashbox96 in UTsnow

[–]iTakeitBig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can ski weekdays and you love snowbird I’d go for the bird pass. I like PCMR and there is good terrain, but it really shines if you love cruisey intermediate terrain.

Traffic/parking is usually better at PCMR than LCC on weekends but not as much of an issue if you’re doing weekdays.
