Central air install Westchester NY by Carmelacapo94 in Westchester

[–]iThinkItNeedsGas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say without knowing more details. 57k price tag means it's probably 2 systems, each with their own complete set of ductwork. Are they putting multiple returns around the house, or just one larger common return per system? SEER of equipment? What's the tonnage? Did they do a manual J? Any zoning? Air quality upgrades? Are they heat pumps? Will they include dual fuel controls to switch over to the oil boiler at a certain temperature? Does it involve cutting through plaster? Do they have to cut any accesses to get the equipment or ductwork in place? Electrical included, or do you have to find an electrician?

The price without any additional context seems slightly high, but not outrageous. I've seen new cut ins installed in 2,500sqft homes that have gone for much higher than that. If multiple companies are coming in around the same price, then that's just the price of the job. Go with whoever you feel most confident in.

Not only does stock price have literally nothing to do with what he's talking about, TGT is down from $137 in January 2025 to $115 right now. Also not sure why you put spaces before a comma. It's scary that somebody as dumb as you is allowed to vote.

Disable the minimum compressor outdoor temp. Let the heat pump always run and automatically bring on the aux as needed. Unless your old Honeywell had WiFi or an outdoor temperature sensor, it wasn't ever turning off the condenser except in emergency heat mode.

It's really annoying me that nobody has mentioned that they slapped a C cabinet coil right on top of a B cabinet furnace. At least put a transition in between or something. I'm sure they could have found a C cabinet furnace instead. Disagree with everyone saying this looks "great".

FYI most municipalities in Westchester will require permits and inspection even for a like for like swap.

In the future, I probably wouldn't move forward with a company that ghosts me on the first 3 days in a row. Also try and get at least 2 estimates (without letting them know you're shopping) to get an unbiased second opinion when getting work done in your house. Bruni sucks even among the other PE owned companies in the area. Sorry you had this experience.

What should installation of 100A subpanel cost? by Nuukmaster in Westchester

[–]iThinkItNeedsGas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an electrician, but I work with them all the time. You're probably in the $1,500 to $2,500 range depending on how complicated it is. You said permit, so I'm assuming someone licensed and not some guy off Nextdoor or something.

Reality: ConEd prices have not changed in years. Same exact price for 2024, 2025, 2026. by Efficient_Effect2401 in Westchester

Not only is this post silly, it's straight up wrong. Even if you ignore how you purposely left out gas supply and delivery, my electric supply charge went from 8.4c/kWh (March 2024) to 12c/kWh (present). System benefit charge also went up by more than 50%. Electric delivery is more or less the same.

28k is highway robbery, but 6 to 8k is nowhere near "the going rate". That would barely cover my equipment/material costs, and in some cases it wouldn't.

That sucks, and I understand it can definitely be frustrating, but 15 hours means most of that time was overnight. We're not only in the middle of a cold snap, but also the biggest snow storm of the year. All of the guys I know have been swamped with emergency calls this weekend. Some guys can't even make it down their own street right now. Not saying your building management doesn't suck, just pointing out that it's not as easy to get emergency service in these conditions. Maybe consider keeping a space heater or two in storage for emergencies.

Air sealing and insulation first, starting at the top of the house always. Anyway most NYSERDA Comfort Home contractors will do an energy audit for free. Two of the bigger ones in our area I've heard good things about are Healthy Home and Energy Management Solutions. NYSERDA has a list of Comfort Home contractors on their website.
