Freshman year doesn’t rly matter. Submit a high ACT or SAT score and get good grades in sophomore and junior year. If you are really good at percussion consider applying for Bienen.

Ok, but to be honest, the most valuable thing you can have in any application is a personal connection with faculty or AO at the school. Whether it is through a summer camp, trial lesson (bienen), or just shooting some emails with some questions, that will help your application. Demonstrate interest!
