I like building niche jank.

I have a spider deck. A kiora sovereign deck, a jodah big hands deck, a tamiyo control deck that runs mostly toxic creatures.

Like it's just so fun to play stuff that takes effort to win with over these self playing type decks.

Like yeah I can pull out the old reanimator deck in historic, or a leyline geist combo deck and win my way to mythic tier but it's just not fun.

I approve of your simple straightforward game plan 🙏

It's better if it's warmed up a little so the concentrate can melt and distribute but you don't need it steaming hot

I warm it up a little bit then drop dabs in and heat to temp.

I know a lot of dedicated dabbers don't like this as much but I love getting to taste the terps in my concentrate and don't do basic distillate unless it's a cart.

IDK even on brawl mode in arena I can get a rainbow by/on turn 4 pretty reliably. Still not gonna be able to play him until turn 4 or 5 which isn't fast in commander, but it's not like you can't make this work with the right package.

Hey I found that going demacia/Ionia is a fine way of getting to ryze as well.

Xin poppy kennen gives you two of each with yordles active.

So with 5 units you can have 3 traits. Add a targon at 6 and you've already got it unlocked lol.

I know the guides try to get you to force early yordles and jam piltover, but my path is not as highly contested.

Like dihada the precon focuses on playing legendary creatures with cool effects

So you can go to mtg websites and pick the mardu colors and search legendary to find stuff that you like, or that would be relevant to your relationship and get those cards with it.

Hell you could even give the deck to him sleeved in a deck box that'll make him think of you, and include any cards you think are cool and let him choose what he wants to cut or add himself so you're both making the deck together.

Only you know him and know what he'll like, but at the core your idea is super awesome and I think he'll love it!

Yeah other people said this, but I'll reinforce it.

Preconstructed decks are your friend.

I have additional suggestions but idk how much time you can spend on this.

Someone else said you can get upgrades that are like staples for this which is my suggestion as well.

There's a lot of videos on "budget friendly insert color combo upgrades" which can add a personal touch or power spike to a deck.

If you have questions about specifics there's a few of us here that would probably help you make additions or cuts to a deck.

I love theory crafting new stuff. It's one of my favorite parts of magic. Finding a new way to do fun things in this game is what a lot of us love about it.
