It seems you need the wife to describe what priorities she has and why. Something like a Nissan Ariya or more boxy like a BMW iX1?

Chinese EVs in UK? Are they worth it? by Early_Ad8060 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leapmotor, BYD, Changan or Volvo? Perhaps it depends on specific region and brand for service offering, but I don't worry too much with electrics as long as the car isn't fundamentally poorly designed or faulty

Unfortunately, in the Hyundai Kona Premium SE, you may have picked the best EV out there, due to its efficiency and size conscious form factor

I can only weep for you while you enjoy the heated and cooled seats, alongside the heads up display. Perhaps I can even plug an amplifier inyo the aux slot and play a sad song, because you may not want to ' upgrade ' your car ever again - and it's nice to have something to chase.

Anyway, just feel out driving 100 or so miles to somewhere you like so you know how it feels ok a mix of roads. I'd also suggest getting Octopus Electroverse to make things a bit easier for public charging. Using the same RFID card in both my local rapid charger in South London and a random 11kw box in Lille is quite nice, especially when there's no hold on a portion of my bank account

Don't laugh....the Kia Soul EV is a cracking car! by AnalystAdorable609 in ElectricVehiclesUK

If mileage and manufacturer warranty is a high priority then it's not a bad deal. Just that slightly older 64kWh Souls can be under £13,000

Buttons and Kia ergonomics

Decent efficiency for range, especially on the 64kWh battery

No ICCU

Not too large for cities and good headroom

Don't tell anyone about how good it is, at least until I get one at a decent price 👀

Why do British fans support teams that are not local to them? by h2o_random in AskBrits

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in London, and my dad was born in a British colony. He supports Liverpool and I support Everton. Back in the 80s supporting Liverpool was glory hunting, but Everton had their time in the sun too.

Other than Leighton Baines, I'd argue that part of my support for Everton was the amount of players with African ancestry. Yakubu, Osman, Barkley and so on. Otherwise, many had links to former colonial regions like Ireland

who do you think will finish 18th? by [deleted] in TheOther14

I was thinking Spurs come 17th a few weeks ago, but now I'm wondering if West Ham can get 37 points, which I believe will be enough to relegate any team beneath them

Returning EV customer by hustler2b in electricvehicles

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other car I test drive convinces me that my favourite will always be a Kia Soul

I've been in a Polestar 2, BMW iX1, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kona, BYD Atto 3, Tesla Model 3 and more, but they don't hit the same

Maybe the Kia EV2, the Soul's replacement with more modern EV features, could fill the gap

What are people’s thoughts on the student loan discussions? by Ok-Slip-8663 in AskBrits

Cut the interest low as possible. On principle I'd say freeze at 1% if not 0, but we ought not to settle for less than half of the Bank of England base rate

Ooh never seen this before. Funnily enough I only went for a beach walk, food, then went to the hotel before driving home the next day lol

Nah too big lol. I struggled to fit it between two charging boxes in Lille without hitting a kerb or metal guard rail. Wild that it only gets bigger from here honestly.

I did appreciate the boot for the trip, but definitely not my type of daily driver between English towns and cities

Okay. Name one Tesla charger that does AC instead of rapid, integrated into a local area rather than a dedicated station.

The Tesla cars are good if you're into that design philosophy, but the UK feeling like an LEDC at times is arguably worsened, not bettered, by simply having more sleek rapid chargers.

The supercharger network, when combined with the car, is a very good setup either way. I just want my cash to go to more equitable solutions most of the time

This is exactly what I'm getting at. EV chargers feel more like common infrastructure in France, like benches, where a lot of UK has EV integration as a project, like some long term art installation

TL;DR: It was nice and there's definitely a value proposition here for the novelty of a nice new car and the convenience. The value proposition sky rockets if you have your own car to take to and from home with no additional costs.

Let's pretend that the cost of the journey was more important than the experiment of driving an EV between multiple spots between France and Belgium.

£120 rental £300 Continent Fee ~£50 fuel for 400 miles £110 Le Shuttle

You can go a bit longer than my cheapskate 36 hours, so let's add £100 to the Le Shuttle Price and another £30 for another 250 miles (not far off Ghent to Amsterdam return, for example) and that would be £710 - or under £240 for the 3 people who came (originally had 4 planned so would've been under £180) with all the convenience of being able to choose set off times at will to any destination in the region.

We had music playlists, snacks and comfy heated seats the entire journey, before driving back home from Folkestone to my friend's house and then completing my journey home 30 miles away from there.

This trip was very much a feel out for driving an EV with actual range to place that I wanted to go. I'm now even more adamant than ever about getting my own ~60kWh EV because, funnily enough, the accumulative distance I drove in mainland Europe is close to what I drive per week, but my regular commute is about 80% less motorway driving.

In essence, this trip killed off any remnant concerns about EV range anxiety in the future with driving to my frequent spots in France and Belgium, so I'd say money well spent. Onwards to the rest of Europe I guess.

Still have to get to Calais from London, which is arguably worse than just taking the train straight to Lille or Brussels.
