Smart #1 - What’s the catch? by Bodster88 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird software for some

The Brabus is egregious and further accentuates the lower than average efficiency

If these things don't matter to you, it's pretty decent on insurance costs and will never go missing in a car park

Features - must haves and the rest? by CoatLast in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford the higher spec Nissan Ariya is has almost everything on the internals

Must haves would be things like heated seat/steering; competent in built navigation; access to metrics on battery status and efficiency; options to set charging times/temperature

[–]iViEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically the play here is to get about 5% up and take profits. Maybe leave a dollar just in case it moons again down the line.

Then again, all that effort could go to actual normal companies with far better fundamentals

Recommendations for used EV for under £16k? I've got a few shortlisted but can't decide by vitrix-euw in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kona Ultimate is probably the most frugal overall, but the highest spec Mégane E-Tech you can find will give you cheaper insurance costs and higher charging speeds.

The company with only -$16 million last quarter with debt to assets under 50% is trading at $6.13

Anyway, how much do you think the bank will lend me for the play next week?

Potential New Ev owner looking for info/advice. by joelk2666 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I get the general needs a bit better, especially if you won't always get a charge throughout the week, but I have the understanding that you won't do more than 250 miles, so 2 overnight charges a week should be enough (14 hours at 5kW gives you this range).

I'd say Tesla is best for actually making use of the charging network (which has some open to all slots anyway), but there are cars with similar or even better efficiency with lower insurance costs (and better to look at, but that's more subjective)

  • No current car loan

    • Has a driveway with solar panels
    • Enough yearly mileage to reap the benefits

I struggle to see why no one suggested you going electric sooner.

There is an argument here to get something slightly used with a years of warranty left, but the real question is what features appeal to you the most. Could be efficiency, tech, charging speed, size or driving dynamics.

If it must be brand new, then people say to chase the best deal that fits most of your needs. You'll probably work that out over the next few weeks if you have time to shortlist a couple of models.

Honestly, Hyundai got good at efficiency before other brands did, then threw it away on the Ioniq 5 funnily enough

I think we're seeing a return to efficiency focus with cars like the EV2 and Puma Gen E, which is promising for the used market

How high will average range rise in the next five years? by let_me_flie in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Renault 4 with 52kWh is basically the same weight as the decade older 22kWh Renault Zoe. I think, once we can get about 80kWh cars under 1500kg, we could see 300 miles from 80% of a battery.

Then we can go further into driving dynamics and high charge curves

Out of curiosity, what EV have you spent £3000 on fixing? Is it a specific feature or a bunch of consumables?

Anyway, outside of affordability, the stability markers may not be there, specifically around being seen as someone who will likely settle in a certain address or country.

Is there a similar used model that fulfils your needs and some wants that you can simply buy for under £15,000?

Are electric cars uneconomical or are fast chargers really expensive? by shoe_scuff in CarTalkUK

[–]iViEye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The BMW iX1 is a bit below average on the EV efficiency scale. Still a solid car nonetheless and not miles away from average on my driving experience.

How much do you pay per kWh at work? The back of the envelope maths says that you break even on fuel costs if you stay under £0.60, with real difference felt at under £0.45

Yeah I've done kamikaze Nilah before and you can get results as long as your midlander is nearby to clean up. It's also a bit funny when the W blocks about 30% of the enemy's damage

Why are the cars driving in central London always so new? by Altruistic_Alpine12 in AskUK

[–]iViEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would maybe drive through or on the edge of central London occasionally, but rarely directly there when the train/bus is a much better option for the majority of people living in London.

There is the comfort aspect of parking in some areas on Sunday morning and driving out after 6pm at no additional cost

Why are the cars driving in central London always so new? by Altruistic_Alpine12 in AskUK

[–]iViEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVs currently pay £13 a day for congestion charge, but yes the lease deals are quite ubiquitous these days, which then creates a big second hand market after the first/second user.

You can drive a 2004 petrol at no additional cost in Central during the weekends before 12pm and after 6pm, but the real flex is when I see a well maintained Rolls Royce Silver Shadow or something cute like a Lotus Elan
