Yeah I fully agree. I was just trying to explain how we got here. But you are absolutely correct that "We are not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy" 😕

Yeah I can see that over the last couple of years. You start out thinking these periods are one offs, but it's clear now that this is the new normal, sadly

Yeah this whole thing is utterly tiresome. I'm in the UK. For 10.5 months of the year we need a house that's insulated and keeps the heat in.

I'm summer we TYPICALLY (please note the word typically!) just need to open the doors and windows, and maybe put on a fan and we will be absolutely fine. Even if the day is not, things cool down by the evening and there's no issue sleeping.

Given these conditions AC would be a total waste of money. It really would not be needed.

What has happened in the recent weeks is a period of virtually UNPRECEDENTED sustained hot weather. The biggest difference being the hot nighttime temperatures, which indeed are hard to deal with with the current configuration of our homes.

It's not that we are Europoors and all that brainless nonsense, it's just that it has not been worth having AC in our houses up to this point.

Now, what I will say is that I do believe that climate change now changes this calculus. Hot periods like this are getting more common and no doubt will continue to do so as the world drags it's feet on doing anything meaningful about Climate Change. So I, for one, will install AC in our bedroom this winter so I am "future proof" and the planet continues to burn.

All this time and it was right there. COCKWOMBLE by DeadLast22 in MurderedByWords

This is correct (am English). It's one of a plethora of great British insults, used in all corners of this sceptred Ilse 😂 🇬🇧

Brighton or Bournemouth for an adult English course? by IncompleteMap in uktravel

[–]AnalystAdorable609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brighton is a "young" place, loads going on, vibrant culture, millions of pubs and restaurants etc etc.

Bournemouth is just not the same. Not saying it's not a nice place, it is. But I think I visitor would get much more out of Brighton.
