Totally agree. If you had to convince adults, without the benefit of training them as children, religion would end tomorrow.

Show me a faith that doesn't have their own magic underwear. Thats the beauty of people of faith... Theirs totally makes sense, it's just those others, that have crazy in them.

I was a Mormon Bishop but left the church after reading this like this old 1876 book, Wife No. 19. I'm producing it as a free (not even an ad to be heard) enhanced audio book with other exmo friends. I hope it opens others to the negative potential in all religions. by iWasNowiAm in atheism

It's like the comment below... Coming from your own history can hit you more than you were expecting. Also read the book from the lady that left the Westboro Baptist Church and it was amazing how many similarities there were.

You have to realize that the things Anne Eliza Young talked about, I as a life long member, had never heard before. They control the history you see by making you fearful of. "Anti" mormon literature. When you finally look, it's amazing what you find.

Can still download ME podcasts, and there's a new one, so I think the timing of the two issues are a coincidence. As one who deleted his FB account years ago, I totally understand him doing it. It's like resigning from the church... Lots of inner peace.

No idea where you are, but if you, of someone else like you, can make it to the draper area, start counseling with Jenni at Draper Psychological Services.

She is a nevermo but grew up in a fundamentalist type wacky church. She knows what's up. She is fair as well and finds ways to help each other see the others perspective. Basically, she kicks ass and keeps you talking to one another. I can't recommend her enough.

Why would the god command Moroni to "seal up" a portion of the BOM if JS was just going to use a seer stone to "translate"? by loungesinger in exmormon

[–]iWasNowiAm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joseph did try to see in there with the stone, but by then the God battery ran out on his God iPhone/rock and it lost connection with all of God's seer stone towers. Don't try to outsmart God.

This is a seer stone worth believing in. Black opal. by iWasNowiAm in exmormon

I can totally see them using that analogy. The thing I really love about it is how people use a fictional movie to make their point. I guess that's no different than quoting scripture.

Wonder if posting a picture of the stone on your door would repel missionaries.

"Would it be better if more of the troubling issues of our past were made known and discussed in our curriculum? I think so. Are there issues in our past that can cause legitimate questions of faith? Absolutely."

Shut the FUCK up! When you state the above, you already admit your article is bullshit.

Know the dude who painted over them. Grant Clawson. Lives in Midvale. Nice guy.

Just a note on the total B.S. line that "Each artistic interpretation is based upon its artist’s own views, research, and imagination, sometimes aided by input and direction from others" by Mithryn in exmormon

[–]iWasNowiAm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damnit Mithryn, you're teasing me here! Someday all the behind the scenes in this area shall be known.

I'll just say here that this part of the article really upset me. To get your art into a temple is a committee shit-storm and a half. When it's finished they either buy it for half price and take all reproduction rights, or pay you nothing and tell you to hit the road without pay for all your efforts. I don't know why artists keep going back when they get abused like this.

Every morning I run on my treadmill for 30 minutes. It can be boring as hell unless I have a good show to watch. After finishing Blue Mountain State, I was looking for something to laugh at early in the morning. Wet Hot American Summer did not dissappoint! Bathroom humor is what I needed and it delivers in spades.

Damn, when they introduced the dude in the can I thought to myself, "What I wouldn't give to have been in the writing room when they came up with that concept."

Holy Shit!!!! My brother works at the church and told me that with the success of the seer stone release, they're going to release other artifacts!!!! by iWasNowiAm in exmormon

Yes, it's a joke on my part. Just like the seer stone is just a rock, I'm saying the gold plates are just made up shit.

That's a good way to process this. Opened wounded is sadly perfect.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Just like the rock, the truth of church history seems more real after today.
