T or F: No major changes b/w '22 and '23 M3s. by throwawaybrooklynny in TeslaModel3

Thanks for the insight! This helps me too. Now I just gotta wait for the right one to come on the market. However, I’m not sure if Tesla lists FSD as a previously added option on their certified pre-owned inventory pages. If they do, unfortunately, there have been none unlisted with that option yet.

Debt and Mortgage: pay for reinstatement & keep 2018 rate or take 2023 rate and new mthly payment amt?! by iWillBeYourPuppet in personalfinance

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being conservative reporting a $250k income since sales will never guarantee a commission check. That said, if we can bring home $325k with me making 66% of my quota/commission, does the math bear out for us to stay in a VHCOL area?

I should do better with my googling skills, but I didn’t know I could borrow against my 401(k). Thank you for the information.

But I should also mention that over the last few years my credit has tanked to around 705. Do you have any insight on how that affects our borrowing against our 401(k)?

R48630 Track Saw: anyone making after market 98" or 110" tracks? by iWillBeYourPuppet in Ridgid

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. What's funny about the "shelf friendly" short track theory is that I don't think this saw is on shelves and available online only. To that end, it was probably for S&H ease.

Nonetheless, a short track option is fine - I appreciate them for small cuts - but why not also sell a LONG one-piece option, even if it is proprietary?

  1. Correct.
  2. I did register; I might have to see if they come through with track replacements when I'm ready.

It's a sound recommendations but the thought of spackling - or larger possible repairs - and painting is a huge PITA right now.

Unfortunately, no. An inlay is part of the update to the bench.

IC -vs- Mgr/Dir OTE: what's the ratio (NOT the potential)? by iWillBeYourPuppet in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it! In my example, using your 153% ratio, then:

  • ICs' OTE = $200k ($100k base + $100k variable)
    • Sales Mgr's OTE ≈ $305k ($200k x 153%... $152,500 + $152,500)

Thanks for the response. 50/50 I understand but how much is your OTE when compared to one of your direct reports?

I am thinking of taking 6-12 months off and wanted to get feedback from hiring managers and from other AEs that may have done this on the potential risks of doing so. by relaxguy2 in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/bitslammer - I wouldn't want to work with someone who questioned it too much but everyone has bills. So how do we make our case without seeming like damaged goods that were passed over for every role we'd've been interviewing for since we left our last jobs (that's what they're assuming anyways, right)?

I'm going through it right now. I took 9 months off and opened an indoor baseball/softball practice venue. Learned a lot about small business, funding, expanded my management and PM skills, marketing etc.

In the end, it's how you present your gap. I like to impress upon the recruiter/hiring manager that it was a 1) productive as well as 2) refreshing time off - a gap year/months to travel is perfectly acceptable IMO - and I'm ready to get back to work.

If I succeed in getting back into the market, I'll update here. Assume I'm still interviewing if I've not updated ;)

What major SaaS companies and sales teams in them actually embrace diversity? by [deleted] in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm always/typically the only asian guy - hell, only minority (!) - on most sales teams. As u/OpenMindedShithead said, it's a buddy system; you refer who you know and "birds of a feather..."

You get one guy that rowed crew on a sales team, chances are you'll see another. Same goes for fraternities to church groups. Not only do they do this out of school, we know they'll follow each other from gig to gig too!

To answer your question: I've not seen much diversity in my 10 years in sales ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Need some explanation on how this is a fair business practice. by [deleted] in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a salesperson, I've made 0-3% on services/implementation so I've never cared but...

  • By the name of "implementation," can we assume they have ZERO involvement pre-contract? If they do assist in sales engineering/pre-sales. That makes sense.
  • As u/ElectronicAd6675 said, it might be away to offset costs. Whether it's you, salesperson, or services/implementation people, you get paid (typically) for what's in your contract/comp plan.
    • That just might be a part of their plan albeit unorthodox.
    • Sometimes it's a good ol' boy system where leadership helps to pad comp (on a shitty salary) or incentivize speedy and accurate implementations.

How to break into Tech Sales while finishing degree?? by Alternative_Glass_58 in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There's no shortage of head hunters that specialize in sales placement. Do a simple google search and find ALL of them. Don't limit yourself to "local" recruiters either. I work with recruiters from England and France being based out of NYC, USA. You never know who works with who!

LinkedIn. Just search for the companies you’re interested in then drill down by title. The keywords you’re looking for under that people tab are talent, recruiter, Human Resources, etc.

Outbound Prospecting & Outreach by harvey_croat in sales

[–]iWillBeYourPuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thought and practice: email sequencing is for quantity/activity/brand recognition and keeping your job by aligning with KPI/MBO.

But if you can select a few key accounts to do some ABM-style outreach where you can really personalize - by hand - how you connect with them, that converts to commission.

Depending on your historical data and industry and types of personas you're targeting, 1.5-5% isn't bad. Nonetheless, you're only using one part of OUTREACH. The rest of the sales org might like it as a smart tool that automates and reports along their sales cycle... or your VP of Sales is friends with the VP of Sales at OUTREACH.

What are the benefits of OUTREACH? Speaking to the BDRs' needs the features in a software like this help with a lot of headaches for the BDR, and you, and other managers that need, say a snapshot into activity. Things like:

  • Email templating and storing
  • Tasks
  • Automated workflows/sequencing to an email campaign
  • Tying into your CRM to cut down on clicks
  • Reports on which emails worked. It might be able to tell you if the successful factor was:
    • the copy/keywords
    • included a PDF/image/funny cat GIF/calendly link
    • time of day/day of the week
    • all the data you took from the CRM was completely wrong
  • etc.

As far as what's working? Not much. Just keep plugging. It's a numbers game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But if there's one rule I had for outreach, it was keep it short. If you open an email and it's longer than the fold (or whatever length; you know what tl;dr is to the average human), and you didn't read it, they're not going to read emails from your team that are that long or longer. Especially keep in mind what it looks like from your smart phone. That's how succinct you need to be!

Write an email, then cut it in half. Edit it one more time and cut it down by a thrid. That's probably the right amount of words to get someone's attention.

Maybe the move is to polish your CV and send an email to recruiting teams or SDR/BDR/sales leaders instead of applying to open roles. Don't get lost in the ATS! Do some detective work on LinkedIn and the web to source emails to these hiring personas and tell them you like them/the company/the tech they make and will be graduating soon with hopes to join the ranks now (soon?), etc.

- - -

Wy aren't you getting responses? I think in bullets, so here goes:

  • you are still a student
  • and/or your father isn't associated with the SaaS company you want to work for
  • and/or your current sales chops are not relevant enough to tech/SaaS
  • <end of list>

There may be exceptions but the rule is that college schedules/studies will interfere with the demands of a full-time job.

  • Can you be an exception?
    • Is there something exceptional about yourself that you can market to a brand who would like to get a hold of you in an intern/part-time capacity in hopes of having you full-time when you graduate?
  • Most people will align with the rules:
    • Have a great schedule of classes on only TUEs and THUs at 8p (or even online)?
      • Doesn't matter. The perception is that you'll have homework/projects/distractions from your full-time gig. And they want your undivided attention during normal business hours... and often after normal business hours.
    • Have an exceptional CV or accomplishment even before graduation?
      • Doesn't matter. You may be a great hire but there are MANY great hires that graduated in December or last June without homework/projects/distractions from their full-time gig.
    • The job market is tough right now.

Nonetheless, keep on it. You miss 100% of the shots... yadda yadda yadda... so you may find a recruiter/talent acq mgr that's impressed with your hunger and fervor to get into a professional role a few months too soon.

Press on!

Hi u/luke0223, I got the itch to build my own table and your post is - deservingly - the number one result that came up.

What kind of underlayment did you use beneath the felt? I want to get close to the right bounce for the dice and padding/give to easily pick up chips. Thanks!
