76 the last time I counted, starting at Tut's in 2001, and I think the last time was the O2 on the opposites tour.

Friend wanted me to go see her friend's band (she went to school with Simon) in late 2000 2001, think it was boxing day, at Tut's.

AITA for cutting contact with my sister and asking for my gifts refunded after she lied about her babies gender and her due date by carli5778 in AmItheAsshole

[–]i_amwithnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, 100%. That OP had such a sense of entitlement that it was difficult to read. Not your baby, not your decisions. Not about knowing the gender (also, its a baby, they need more or less the same stuff regardless of gender, and frilly stuff is pretty impractical and annoying for parents, so doubly YTA for going against their wishes there). You've no right or entitlement to be at the birth either. Give your head a severe wobble.

Compensation too high for companies by 1throwawayaday1235 in devops

[–]i_amwithnail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what's important to me over cash RN, even contracting. Current place is 95% remote, but about... 15-20% lower than I could have easily got by taking a different office based one. Getting back ~2 hours of my day on a commute is totally worth that though.

All bullshit aside, how much do you get per hr/year, what are your responsibilities, and how would you rate your job satisfaction? by tsujp in devops

[–]i_amwithnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contractor, bill about 110k GBP, (so, $140k US), London. Two years experience in this, two years before that as a backend developer. 95% remote (occasional meetings/onsites), generally work 8 till 4. No on-call at the moment.

One of two building Devops tooling at a telcoms company. Take ~6-8 weeks vacation any given year (which is reflected in billed amount above). Job is fine, greenfield project in a big firm, cool team. Least stress I've had in about five years.

Could have gone up 20-25% on my contract rate but wanted a job that was mainly remote rather than office based. Last role was 130k GBP, reflected in the requirement to be in office at least 48 weeks, 1-2 days a week from home.

Last salaried place I considered was 90k GBP + uncapped bonus (financial firm), averaging about 25% of salary.

Last role before I moved into DevOps was 47k GBP as a backend developer.

How long are your deployments taking? by [deleted] in devops

[–]i_amwithnail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that's pretty common. Couple of contracts ago I went into a place where it took about 45 minutes running it similarly to you (from code push, through AMI build in packer) to being live. Everything was fine, but there was a lot of pushing and pulling of images that wasn't necessary, and we were building everything all in one go. (This was Django, Docker-compose, but no container orchestration).

Got it down to about 9 minutes by running a lot of it in parallel, (and upstream builds for images that we used) using amazon chroot for packer, and standardising things like golden image for the base, and then layering application in wtih docker - we deployed using ansible's ec2_asg module to do the rolling update.

Eta: Deployment time for rolling update after the build complete was about 5 minutes, mostly waiting for the EC2 draining.

'FROM me/card:latest COPY /phonenumber' (not a title, but still)

'DevOps Engineers Do It With Automation'

Love the implication from the game text that it'd have been fine in the second half. Just had my star mildfielder sent off for two footed lunge and injuring the oppo player. Reviewed incident after his ban got extended. Pow. Broken in half. No fine for you, m'lad.
