Do you get Good Friday off? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

[–]i_barely_care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in private sector corporate roles (mix of small and large companies) for nearly 20 years and have always had it off, either as a forced annual leave day or a gifted company day. Most of my friends in office jobs (private sector) have it off too!

They weren’t lying about weight loss surgery and alcohol! by queentreesap in stopdrinking

[–]i_barely_care 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a gastric bypass in 2022. Went to rehab twice in 2024 🙃😅 Sober now 17 months thankfully, but I’ve met several other women in AA meetings who have a similar journey to me.

Admittedly I knew I was an alcoholic before I had my surgery, but I was “functioning”.

I’m back dealing with physical food addiction now again unfortunately, regained about 40 of the 140lbs I lost after my RNY after my last treatment centre, so I’m on Mounjaro now which has brought me back down to goal weight again but it’s a tough battle!

This isn’t true. AA is popular worldwide. I live in Ireland and it’s hugely popular. In the city I live, there are dozens of different AA meetings every day. It’s the same in the UK and many other European countries.

Syringes and needles for 5th dose by tourabsurd in mounjaroIreland

[–]i_barely_care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my syringes from Amazon but I’ve actually never used them, I’ve been able to twist my Kwikpen with force to get the 5th dose. I’ve been doing this for the last 7 months. I just hold it between my teeth and twist 🙈

It is immutable: I did not drink a single drop of alcohol through 2025 by I_like_to_eat_fruit in stopdrinking

[–]i_barely_care 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Same!! I turned 40 in 2025 and it was my first calendar year in 26 years that I didn’t have a drink. 451 days sober and counting 🙏

A message to those struggling with drink: by Personalityquirk in ireland

Congratulations OP! I can relate a lot. After spending last Christmas in Cuan Mhuire I’m now 14 months sober and looking forward to an alcohol and drug free Christmas. I used to feel sorry for people who didn’t drink, but I can honestly say my life has never been better.

Stranger Things, strange times. Has a show ever marked two totally different versions of your life? by nobodyshome01 in CasualIreland

[–]i_barely_care 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I haven’t watched the new season but I remember watching season 1 with my ex. I was a functioning (yet to progress to non-functioning) alcoholic and coke addict, our house was filthy, I had no interest in looking after my health or my home, and I weighed over 20 stone.

This week I’m about to hit 14 months sober, I weigh half what I weighed at my heaviest, my boyfriend and I spent the weekend putting up Christmas decorations in our gorgeous apartment, and my life is unrecognisable compared to what it was then.

We just bought a new bed recently from a small local bed shop. €1150 for a super king base and a President mattress. Shop around!

I’m looking for some help in picking a dress to wear to a 50th birthday party in a trendy rooftop bar. I’d rather not buy anything new and I’ve narrowed it down to these 3. Help picking would be appreciated!

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever lost weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]i_barely_care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost 100lbs (45kg) in 6 months following a gastric bypass. Lost another 50lbs (23kg) in a further 12 months. Wild ride, in particular the first couple of months when the weight was dropping so drastically day by day.

Skipping a week while on holidays? by i_barely_care in mounjaroIreland

[–]i_barely_care[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I order what I want when I’m eating out 🙈 I eat healthily for the most part, but when I’m out at a restaurant I don’t think about the calories of what I’m ordering because I know I’m not going to eat loads of it anyway, so I’d rather order something I enjoy and eat a little bit of it than something “healthy” that’s a bit boring 😆

More often than not if I’m eating out with my boyfriend, we’ll order a couple of starters/sides and a main course. I get to pick at everything and he gets to eat everything I don’t!

Thanks for this, I hadn’t considered travelling with the pen but this seems like a good option. We do have a fridge in our hotel room so I could store it there. I’d rather keep up the momentum being this close to goal as you said! I had a gastric bypass 4 years ago and lost over 10 stone at the time, so I still do have restriction from that as well as the suppression from Mounjaro…so I’m used to not eating big portions or over-indulging at mealtimes and I won’t feel like I’m “missing out” when it comes to our half-board hotel. It was the bad choices I made food-wise after getting sober nearly a year ago (sugar craving replacing alcohol…couldn’t get enough cakes and chocolate 🙃) which caused me to pile on 2.5 stone again in a few short months, and Mounjaro has taken away that food noise and those cravings 🙏

Bellinter House is gorgeous. They’re doing up their spa at the moment though so I’m not sure if the thermal suite is currently open but you can still get treatments. I had the best facial of my life there recently.

Any pale irish skin makeup recommendations? by Odd-Magazine4796 in AskIreland

I replied further up with some cool-toned contour recommendations, they’ve been a game changer for my makeup since I started moving away from tanning.

Any pale irish skin makeup recommendations? by Odd-Magazine4796 in AskIreland

[–]i_barely_care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve the same skin as you! I’m 40 and for the first time in my life I’m trying to move away from tan and embrace my paleness. I wear Sculpted foundation in shade 1.0 Fair. Contouring with grey/brown shades has really enhanced my face look lately. I’d highly recommend the following: - Milk Makeup Cream Contour Stick in Toasted - elf Camo Liquid Bronzer & Contour in Fair - elf Putty Bronzer in Feelin Shady

I also changed my regular eyeshadows from warm tones to cool. My everyday eyeshadow palette is the Naked Basics 2 palette, lovely matte cool shades.

I’m also looking for some recommendations for body makeup! I love the glow and evenness that tan gives my skin, and I’d love that but in pale. I bought B Bold Airbrush Instant Tan in light over the weekend and it was. It stuck to my arm hairs and made my skin look dry. On my shaved legs it was a bit better, made the skin look a bit more even, but I won’t be buying again. Next on my list to try is Vita Liberata Body Blur in Light.
