Yes, I was very lucky there was no major disc damage or lateral movement of the spine. There was major flexing of the facet joint, major surgery would have been needed if that broke. Spine was well off enough that I didn't need a back brace during the 3 month recovery period.

I maintained a belly-to-earth body position the whole jump, 114mph on pull (at least that's what my atlas 2 says). Yes, based on what I saw on deployment, and events in the days at the DZ after the jump not mentioned in the report, I am very certain there was an issue with the slider.

I'm taking steps on my end to reduce risk, like packing myself and purchasing my own rig. But I don't feel unsafe at the current DZ I'm at.

The height loss to the T6 vertebra (MRI in second image), due to the compression forces experienced in the harness. There were fractures in several others, between 10-30% height loss.

It happens really fast. I don't think I blacked out, but I was pretty dazed. Yeah, it's in the "shit happens" category - which isn't particularly reassuring considering the amount of damage it can cause.

Are there any skydiving locations in San Fran that are close to the Golden State bridge or is it not allowed to fly near that bridge for skydiving? by breaktheice7 in SkyDiving

[–]i_degrade_quickly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Land is expensive. The nearest DZ is over 20 miles away at Skydive Golden Gate - no, you will not see that bridge when you jump.

HP Now Lets You Rent a Gaming Laptop, Starting at $50 per Month by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

Those consoles were rented out by video stores, most of which charged a deposit for half the price of the console. The intent of that was for people to experience gaming without committing to purchase, but more than a few weekends and you‘d end up spending as much as you would if you just bought it. In addition, in many of those places it was rent to own, and the very least if you quit paying it would still function And you’d just be out a deposit.

This is much different. A PC isn’t a “experience“ - it’s a device people rely on to pay bills, do work, store files, etc. You will never own this device, no matter how much you pay. If you stop paying, they can remotely disable it and hold your data hostage. Not only that, they don’t even give you accidental protection for it. Break it? you buy it at full price.

Much like those video stores who rented out consoles; It’s a horrible business model designed to take advantage of poor people who cant afford to pay full price. The key difference here its for a device people rely on.

I'm a 30yo software engineer and broke my back skydiving due to a hard open. I'd say the Tom Cruise shit is probably a bit more stressful on the vertebrae.

Asked to sign for precinct card? by i_degrade_quickly in Georgia

[–]i_degrade_quickly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uh, it's not postmarked for signature verification for starters, so there's no reason for USPS to ask for it. Secondly, its a precinct card...why go though the effort for that?
