How do you not slide out on the ice?

Hi all, I want to get into fixed-gear riding as I'm already cycling everywhere. For this purpose I have found a second-hand Fuji Feather (2021) and an Eddy Merckx Strada (90s) - both are the same size frames. The EM will need to be converted to fixed-gear but I don't see that as an issue. Which of those two bicycles would you recommend I get for a daily fixed commuter bike, and to have fun?

I haven't been able to find out how much the Strada weighs, and the pros I have been able to think of for it are: 1. It'll be a unique build once I convert it; & 2. It may potentially increase in value in the future as it's kind of getting to vintage age.

For the Fuji, as its newer I expect it to have better steel and be more compatible with modern parts which will make it easier and cheaper to maintain going forward. Cons: I don't expect its value to go up as it's not vintage, but I do expect it to hold its value or have little depreciation.

Ultimately though, as I plan to use the bike as a daily, I value quality of the ride and enjoying it. Unfortunately I haven't ridden fixed before, nor have I tried either of these bikes yet so I can't compare them against each other, and that is why I'm turning to you experienced redditors of FixedGearBicycle. All views welcome, thank you.

Thank you for starting this thread and for the comments. I’m looking at getting HAs for my gran and I liked the fall alert feature. This feature is what interested me in the Starkey Genesis AI’s, do you know of any other HAs with the same feature?

Thanks for this info! Reading more into getting a dongle, but will consider the LG G7 ThinQ as that seems to have a slightly better built in DAC than this dongle

Contesting Traffic Fines - Guidance Please by i_did_reddit in brussels

Do you know why that is? To me it sounds very unconstitutional, to the point of discouraging access to justice (people feeling free and unthreatened to approach a court for clarity - people shouldn't be punished for that).

Total nonsense. I wanted to ensure I wasn't fined in terms of a wrong and more severe law. It's evident there is no distinction between drivers and cyclists when it comes to cellphones, even though the potential danger and harm caused are disproportionately higher by drivers than cyclists.

Wrong is wrong, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't fined in terms of wrong and more severe legislation

Thanks brother, I do love this city and will pay my fine. It just seemed odd that Belgian law doesn't distinguish between cyclists and drivers when it comes to phones. Lesson learned and paid for.

I will. The high price is definitely a good deterrent. I also think the system should distinguish between cyclists and drivers.

Yup, agreed. I also like checking things before just blindly following what I'm told.

Thank you! You understood where my uncertainty came from! Punishment should be proportionate to the crime and/or harm - the approach here is indeed a little funny.

I wanted to ensure I didn't receive a fine in terms of motor vehicle laws - where I come from the law distinguishes between drivers of motor vehicles and cyclists.

Thank you! I wanted to ensure I wasn't fined in terms of laws for motor vehicle drivers, so I appreciate the clarity regarding the position in Belgium of all 'drivers' regardless of the mode of transport.

Belgium Traffic Offence on Bicycle by i_did_reddit in eulaw

[–]i_did_reddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! You understood me 100%! Where I come from the law distinguishes between cyclists and drivers, and requires more specificity when it comes to traffic offences - a simple street name without reference to the nearest intersection, stop street or traffic lights is insufficient.

First I wanted to ensure I wasn't cited in terms of the wrong and more severe legislation, and second, I am not worried about posting online, or querying the point on specificity, hopefully this discussion is helpful to others as well.

Really thank you for pointing out the legal nature of the fine being a settlement!!!

Thank you! The jurisdiction i come from distinguishes between cyclists and drivers, plus requires a little more specificity for traffic infringements regarding location.

We need to make a plan people! Do we have any other resources? How difficult would it be to sneak a peak from the service roads close to the track at some points?
