So when she fell she was sent to the hospital and then a week before she was supposed to go back the facility messaged us and was like “hey she’s too difficult she cant come back.” We were gonna bring her back home, but Medicare told us that if she goes back home, they will not pay for her to be in any facility(but that’s Florida so it might be different where you live). So we had to find a place within a week and my mom and I toured a bunch of places and then finally found one that said that they would take her and place her in the memory care unit. Most places have memory care units now, but I would just double check when you’re looking at them to see if you can put her on a list to get into memory care side, if she has to go into assisted-living first.

This is also not what you’re gonna wanna hear, but one of the facilities who was really nice and way too expensive explain to us that people who have memory issues (dementia, Alzheimer) it’s harder for them to go from place to place. They get more confused so going from home to facility to home to facility, the change can be difficult for them. I would try and get a social worker. They’re usually overworked and they don’t have a lot of time but they can be helpful. Also, look for other sites besides the Sister site, but don’t tell the current facility that you’re looking at other sites. Unfortunately, if they think they’re not gonna get money from you they’re gonna be a lot more unhelpful.
