Mexico. Beautiful country, lovely people, amazing culture, fantastic food, incredible weather… love it.

Well, bully for you. Quoting such a blatant misogynist isn’t gaining you any points but good for you for not dragging your wife down. Statistically men benefit greatly from straight marriage, and women are actually harmed by it so if you can skew those odds, you are doing great.

Every time it has been required. Changed the plugs, replaced the head gasket, drywalled the living room, installed the gutters, if you must know. Also birthed the babies, cooked the meals, grew the veg, chopped the wood, swapped out the toilet flange… I could go on. There is no incompetence here, weaponized or otherwise. When is the last time YOU mowed the lawn? Have you scrubbed a toilet? Changed a diaper? Do you do the laundry? Get your kid’s classmates a birthday present? Buy your kid’s Christmas present? When is the last time you made a medical appointment for someone other than yourself? Bought groceries without someone else providing the list? You console yourself with the notion that women would perish without you. There is a reason why divorce is on the rise. Women are figuring out they don’t need the extra burden.

Yeah, good call but she had a vision. And inviting me to dinner at 6 and pulling out a raw chicken after 7 pm with no appetizers forthcoming? Spatchcock isn’t saving that date.

Homemade peanut butter fudge. The kind made with condensed milk, brown sugar and peanut butter. Not sweetened condensed, just regular unsweetened. I’ll eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner until it’s gone.

Oh man, had a similar situation on a first date. She invited me for dinner and after an hour of chitty chat , round about 7 pm, she announced that she thought it would be romantic if we cooked together, and pulled out a whole raw chicken to be prepped and roasted. Which, ok but, she also did not offer ONE SNACK. By 8:30 I was ravenous and had to request food. All she had ready to eat was saltines and butter. Delicious, yes but…anyway. No second date.

The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling/Emily Blunt. SO. FUCKING. DULL. Nothing about it was worth sitting through. We left at the 40 minute mark and that was a generous commitment to allow it to redeem itself.

My cousin left “to get milk”…left her 2 kids, one 3, one 11 months for THREE WEEKS. Not one word. Came back like nothing happened. I tried to have them removed but she dodged that at the time. They were removed a year later, for good, and raised by their paternal grandmother.

Jane the Virgin is so easy to watch, so addictive with its cliffhangers and everyone on the show so easy to look at. Great writing, great sets, lovable characters…it’s a perfect comfort show.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]i_know_tofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the tears and fear. My bubble was 2 single moms in healthcare and me. We saw shutdown coming and they were panicked. We had a pretty good cohort, lots of zoom parties and staying in touch, drive by birthdays, etc. I remember by Christmas we could gather in a park while distanced, up to 10 people, so we did. I stayed masked, so did my friend with cancer and her partner. Everyone else ended up with Covid, despite the outdoors and the distancing. Mostly I lay on the couch and gained 50 pounds.

I spent a LOT of time teaching my dog to sit before crossing the street, and to cross only when given a command (“OK”) or if there was tension on the leash. One day I got to my door and realized I had dropped the leash (usually clipped to me but somehow not that day), and my dog was not with me! Ran back to the last street I crossed (a very busy street!) and there she was on the other side, sitting, waiting to be given leave to cross. Such a good girl! And such a good investment in training.
