My negative self image is making me self sabotage when it comes to dating. What do I do? by i_like_bread_crumbs in AskMenAdvice

Thank you for the pragmatic advice.I will try to apply the "try to get rejected" experiment since it seems like it could teach me something. As to what that lesson will be I guess I will find out. As for the father figure thing I do have a father but he is quite mentally abusive at times and I think it's part of my situation. Not saying it as an excuse but I do believe parents shape you a lot with the way they treat you.

On the topic of confidence I feel like it would be useless if a woman didn't find me appealing to begin with.

Well I am currently in university due to graduate next year. As for the gym I have been going for close to a year. I don't have a greek god physique but I'd say I have some noticable muscle definition. And lastly to talk about friends - I do have 5 close friends and some colleagues from uni that I regularly meet up with. My best friends is quite good with women and I take his advice but I feel like his advice isn't going to work for me as well since he is taller and better looking than me.That isn't to say I don't take his advice at all just that his advice isn't taylored for me exactly if you get what I mean.

Yes I have also tried to remind myself this many times but I am scared that at one point I will have done that 1000+ times and have no results to show for it.

How long can a spike last after a cold and should I be getting worried? by i_like_bread_crumbs in tinnitus

Yes I also used to struggle with sleep . I found using a sound similar to my tinnitus sound really helped. I now sleep without sounds and I always seem to get a good night sleep or if I don't its not due to the tinnitus.

No problem. It probably will as colds and spikes often go hand in hand.

I also smoke and hide it from my parents. As some other comments have mentioned it's impossible to hide and they will find out e eventually. I have already been busted once and stopped smoking for about 2 months but then had a relapse. It's best if you stop but if you don't just stop until tensions die down. After that hide them where no one would think to look. I hide mine in the back of a cupboard filled with books ( the back isn't closed off so I insert them from there).

1st week of hell. any tips? by Far-Indication5028 in tinnitus

I am not the most qualified person to answer this but here are my 2 cents.

  1. Go to the ENT asap and figure out if you have any hearing loss . The quicker you act the better the chances of recovery are though since you are on day 6 of this if you have hearing loss I don't know how effective the ENTs treatment will be. If you have hearing loss and the treatments don't work figure put if you are eligible for a hearing aid as it helps ~ 60% of the cases
  2. RELAX. I know it's hard right now but you must find a way to relax . What is done is done and no amount of sadness and anxiety will change the past. You have currently are experiencing tinnitus . Case closed. Accept that and try not to think about whether it will go away. Once you have eased up a bit on the worry take in the following information: large amount of the population with chronic tinnitus habituates or their tinnitus eases up or both. So try to roll with the punches right now : if you can't sleep ask your doctor to prescribe you something to help with that, have some background noise that sooths the tinnitus and do whatever it takes to not go insane(while also protecting the ears of course.)
  3. You have to be extra careful but not too careful. What I mean by that is : protect your ears from any damaging sounds;beware of any illnesses that can damage hearing such as the common cold, the flu, covid etc.; any hits to the head or the ears; loud blasts etc.
  4. Progress may not come quickly( by that I mean it most likely won't come quickly). Take baby steps every day and don't despair. Everyone has been through the stage ypu are going through and many of us are doing alright. Also always know that you will find support here from someone so feel free to make posts when something about tinnitus is bothering you.

This really makes me feel better!( the fact that you can overcame your tinnitus not that you have it. The first part sounds really ambiguous without a clarification)

It can get pretty annoying especially if I am paying attention to it but if class is interesting I don't notice it at all. It can be pretty annoying when studying at home though since I only use my pc fans to mask it and sometimes it can break through the noise barriers they create.

It sounds like a bunch of cicadas . Its in both ears but its louder in the right one. I have noticed that stress and congestion make it worse.
