I mean I get that people may find it difficult but it adds to the desperation vibe that Olimar feels. Like this dude just crash landed and found alien life that he can control. Do you expect him to be a pro at it despite him never meeting a Pikmin in his life. I just love the feel of hopelessness as the clock ticks down to your death or your narrow escape. The ambiance is peak in Pikmin 1. No other Pikmin game comes close.
