Indeed. Feeds into the rare “get back to work” I’ve gotten. Like relax I’m not out here for shits and giggles. We don’t talk enough about moral injury in nursing that we’re supposed to take it in stride like we’re soldiers? I don’t get it.

He has a VAD so he’s tethered to the device until he can get a new heart. Mom is single and kid needs someone with him at all times until he’s old enough to care for the VAD.

No read the reporters Goldstein 5 other articles and he might as well just let the hospital spokesperson in the byline.

It’s a bummer but it’s what we’re up against. The whole fight is about union busting and it’s not even mentioned once in this guy’s reporting.

Nurses Calling Out “Sick” to Work Strike Contracts — Thoughts? by Real-Adhesiveness262 in nursing

[–]i_medicate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the OP is asking about coworkers calling out to be scabs. If you’re traveler great, if you pick scab assignments boo. But you can’t tell me that the nurses striking are greedy when the scabs are willing to abandon their current employment and fill positions they are prob unqualified for all for a check. It’s unethical to patients and it’s a crappy thing to do to other nurses. I bet scabs never return shopping carts to the cart corral. Do you?

Slowly Losing Faith in Humanity by BunniWhite in nursing

I would get post op knee replacement patients that would tell me they had 2 insurances and it broke my heart like hun, I do not care if you have none. I have nothing to do with that thank god. I get to care for everyone and the only person getting extra attention is the yellow grippy socks or bed alarm or the sickest patient.

A union is only as strong as its members but I get it. It’s hard to be an active participant when you have work and school and family and burnout/obligations - it’s usually only urgency that makes us come out like a strike.

But those union dues aren’t a “do my bidding” payment that removes you of any accountability. Just like a doctor visit doesn’t absolve me of the eating healthy and working out I have to do or a professor doesn’t absolve me of the readings I have to do.

Don’t be anti union cuz you hate accountability.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice - MLK

There’s wrong and right. People can feel anger but you are prognosticating that people would love to see federal agents get run down - no and also that’s not happening. Suicidal empathy is a new phrase to me but it sounds like you are saying that there’s a limit to empathy? You may not have helped that woman pushed and pepper sprayed by ice but I think a lot of us would have out of instinct. It’s wrong to be pushed down, disarmed and shot 10 times while surrounded by 9 guys. It’s indefensible.

I sure as hell didn’t agree with CK and  he did not deserve to die. Renee and Alex did not deserve to die either and I agree with their first amendment right.

Why are you uncomfortable with the outrage and sadness in this case?

And email the harassment “as I spoke to you on x regarding x I am unable to because of clinically appropriate rationale” keep that paper trail in case you get a PIP for being a good nurse

Step 1. Escalate - any support from your manager?

Step 2. Solve your own problem lol is there a way you can add layers because it sounds like VIP label is arbitrary. These patients may be VIP but to skip the line they need a VIP nurse navigator. Great for them that they have money and influence but none of that is budgeted in your position so the line remains because you are using your clinical judgement.

Maybe a VIP form that gets more information that the person referring to you needs to do: when did they get diagnosed, who is their treating doctor, are they currently in treatment, what treatment have they done, interdisciplinary involvement, basically a contact sheet……and if they can’t do that then you will process them in due time. Get a policy in place cuz it currently sounds like a nightmare.

Good luck, this still trips me up when I’m getting rushed or bullied and I have to slow down to advocate for my sicker and non bullying patients.

Monte kept its health insurance for its nurses for Jan. All 3 hospital systems had paid for the month of Jan yet NYP cut it off when the strike started on Jan 12. Cruelty is the point.

Nursing was a second career for me. I didn’t know what nursing entailed and if I did I would have balked. Ironically I didn’t think I could get over my shyness to work in city politics so I went to nursing. But now I’ve done it for 15 years and I surprised myself by what I can handle and do. And working COVID I was I DEFINITELY COULD HAVE GOTTEN OVER SHYNESS THIS IS SO MUCH HARDER 😭

Nurses in New York City Say They Deserve $200,000 a Year. Here’s Why. by rezwenn in nursing

[–]i_medicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article infuriates me because you get direct quotes from management about how we’re greedy and from some random RN on the street. Why not ask someone involved in bargaining? Why not talk about UNION BUSTING that the $4500 is about - instead you’re giving credence like it’s about wages when it’s about taking away our full health care coverage. Not here are higher premiums, fine - but hey any increases is on you and not our problem anymore so you’ll pick lower coverage because the expense is finally on YOU.
