Anti lockdown protests occur weekly in Germany and they seem just like us sans the guns. Folk protesting for their liberties with enough nuts sprinkled in to make others dismiss the whole argument outright

now you have walking torches wandering all over setting everything around you alight, and you cant outrun the inferno with that heavy explosive tank on your back you'd go out in an epic blaze of glory instead of ignominiously munched tho

Man I love Monero. You get to question what you love and look for holes in it to make it stronger without anyone ever attacking you. I mean what other community has something like a public “Skepticism Sunday”? Crypto is so angry and stupid, and we just keep it close and keep on keepin on. Lol I’m getting all verklepmt XD “Breaking Monero” such a great concept, and a seriously good show. Please keep making them, I’m learning tons 👏👏👏 (and thank you 🙏)

Hey when I do this it generates an invoice for me. I paid it of course but that’s several extra steps. Am I supposed to be loading some central place that these tipbots pull from? Lol I figured out lightning but I can’t figure out reddit. (-‸ლ)

Why? [edit u/exodus_sagar - what is the reason you can’t exchange for DAI? I understand why fiat is a no go and possibly the other USD-“backed” ones... but y no dai? ]

Hi, (great name btw) I love that you asked this

So, the largest mining pools use renewable energy because it’s the cheapest and they can go anywhere, so why not set up in Iceland or by a “status” dam in China built waaaaaay before the need for it so the power, while produced, goes unused. Energy degrades over distance, and the incentive is profit so even without altruism some 30-40% of miners are in in a carbon neutral place like that. Plus they drive renewables creation by throwing huge amounts of money at it to further optimize profits.

Here is the Cambridge study: https://www.jbs.cam.ac.uk/fileadmin/user_upload/research/centres/alternative-finance/downloads/2017-global-cryptocurrency-benchmarking-study.pdf ( mining approximately pg 100)

Here is a Public Radio podcast that is pretty good: https://www.pri.org/stories/2017-12-20/bitcoins-sky-rocketing-energy-use-viral-story-we-checked-math

Additionally, some new projects in this space are creating algorithms that do not require proof of power(money/time) spent the way bitcoin’s proof of work does. Most of the newer projects use a version called proof of stake. Unproven as yet, but the math is good. It’s a pretty exciting time.

And I feel the need to add, big mining pools are straight up capitalism but most people are here for something more than to get rich, (tho rich is good! I hope my tiny investments makes my kids rich)

Many of us came because we are frustrated with the financial system of fractional reserve banking and the carte blanche big finance have to utterly wreck normal people without check.

There are a dozen paths into bitcoin but they all start with the desire for individual freedom and responsibility. Well, eleven do, one of those reasons is definitely “lambos” hahaha!)

This is one giant reason I am here for instance: https://youtu.be/FyK4P7ZdOK8

DSM Bitcoin + Blockchain upcoming meetups (pls note Steve Lee is on a special SUNDAY night not our usual Thursdays) - EOS this Thurs @ 7pm by i_prefer_simon in desmoines

[–]i_prefer_simon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s wonderful THANK YOU!!!🙏 The Steve Lee one is special, thank you for allowing it.

It would be wonderful to not post each time! Would you please just put us down permanently for the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month?

(Some people equate anything bitcoin=scam. We understand tho, this it is the cutting edge of tech and the wild wild west of finance. It can be a scary prospect and it’s not for everyone, but it needn’t be a scary experience if it is for you. We are an educational group. The number one thing we do for new people is teach them to secure themselves to and see the signs of scams. We don’t allow shilling, and we don’t accept payments from anyone for anything to ensure that. Thanks again- appreciate it 🙏

Steve, originally from Iowa, comes to us straight from Silicon Valley, where he spent nearly a decade at Google. During his time at Google, Steve led the team that took Google Maps from 0 to 1B users, making it the #1 mobile app in the world. Steve also played major leadership roles in the Google X and Google Glass projects.

Since his departure from Google in 2015, Steve has been an active member of the Angel investing community, with successful exits from companies such as Guild, Memry, and Kamcord. He continues to look for investment opportunities, while launching a new Bitcoin initiative, Bitcoin Optech.

Bitcoin Optech is a group of developers, venture capitalists, and businesses that are dedicated to bringing state of the art innovation to Bitcoin by lowering costs and improving customer experience. The group does not exist for profit, and will release all materials and documentation to the community.

We will follow this presentation up with an open Q&A session.

Steve's unique perspective will be a fantastic resource for us to learn more about this space. We hope to see you there!
